Secret tabled at Turco dinner

SCENE & HEARD: It will be awhile before Dallas Stars goaltender Marty Turco has dinner again at Umberto Menghi's signature eatery, Il Giardino on Hornby Street. Not that Turco has anything against the food or service at the charming Tuscan-style villa. He loves the place. But as Turco's superstitions go, forget it.

Turco picked up the tab for eight of his teammates last Sunday on the eve of Game 7 in the Canucks-Dallas playoff series. Funny thing is, Il Giardino isn't open Sundays. But Turco insisted. He had wined and dined the same eight teammates earlier in the week and when the Stars won Game 5 the next night at GM Place, Turco wasn't taking no for an answer prior to Game 7. The Dallas players would sit in the same seats, order the same meal and drink the same wine.

After several desperate calls from Turco, the chef and two senior staff members agreed to open the restaurant for his private sitting. All in, it would cost Turco close to $10,000 to have the lights turned on, the grills fired up and the tab delivered for the nine hearty diners.

Dallas, of course, lost 4-1 the next night and Turco to this day is unaware that there was a Canucks souvenir collectible coin -- Roberto Luongo edition -- securely taped to the bottom of his chair. Turco should have known. As the team's rallying cry goes: "We are all Canucks".

Go Canucks Go!!!

Nevermind.

The Langenbrunner goal in 2OT was one of those goals you could see coming a mile away. Yet amazingly, he barely squeezed it in.

In any event, they needed to win that game, they should have won that game, and then did win that game.

Now they need to win one in Ottawa.

Bah, both teams I did not want to win won today. In fact, Buffalo is the only team I want to win that won their game 2. Stupid teams.

Yeah, I was glad the Rangers won it in the end so the officiating didn't affect the end result. I don't know what the hell Shanahan was doing taking that penalty toward the end of regulation though. Not smart, and it could have cost them the game.

woohoo Naslund

The PP might be pathetic, but given enough opportunity it still can be useful.

There were a lot of bad calls in the Sabres' favor, but then the Rangers went and committed some dumb penalties, probably due to frustration. Too many one-sided ticky-tack calls IMO.

How did the disallowed Rangers goal look? One of my friends sent me a text msg and said it wasn't intentionally kicked, but it was impossible for me to see that from where I was sitting (and the air was thin up there )

The officiating has been bad throughout all the eastern playoff series.
The league owes Buffalo about 10 years of make-up calls in my opinion.
That one goal that was overturned by the review crew was not a goal. The war room in Toronto has been making the right calls in all the playoff series. That review reminded me of the Sidney Crosby goal in game one of the sens v penguins series, where Crosby kicked the puck in while trying to get up from being on his knees. If that was a Buffalo goal, I would still have the same opinion, and if Buffalo would have gotten that goal (hypothetically) I would have thought they stole one.

And now for the rest of my post. Amazing how this software can't handle a post over one paragraph long.

What's really sad for the rangers is that they can't win a game in dominant fashion even when Buffalo is playing mediocore to poorly. When Buffalo plays like crap the games are close like normal hockey games. It's clear that Buffalo is the superior team and they completely dominate when they are actually in tune and playing their game. Rangers are pouring it on but in the end will not prevail.

On a side note, I HATE watching games on CBS or whatever national broadcast station that was. They constantly fellate the big market teams and have clear cut leanings to who they like. Brett Hull was funny though, he was definitely going against the grain during this game. These guys talk about hockey games like they are football games, and announce them in that fashion as well. It's no wonder the NHL gets sh!t national ratings, they might as well put two chimps and Martha Stewart in the press box to call the games.

I think the league needs to clarify what constitutes a distinct kicking motion. It was definitely a distinct stopping motion, but it could very well have been an intentional kick. I looked like he tried to hit it with his stick, which would indicate that it wasn't an intentional kick.

Brett Hull and Ray Ferraro really seem to hate each other. Brett Hull really doesn't belong on TV.
