You know, I have a very near-sighted view of hockey stars. If my Wings can shut them down, then are they really that great? I understand that they are only one person on a team, but there are plenty of players in the NHL out there that the Wings just can't shut down and their only hope is to limit the damage they do. When it comes to Ovechkin and Crosby I just don't see what the big deal is. I guess I need to spend more time watching them play other teams.
the thing is - when teams have to use their #1 shutdown lines against one guy or one line, it opens up the ice for other good players. that's where team depth comes into play. so even if teams are shutting down the big guns, they're still making a difference by taking attention away from lesser (but still really good) players.Originally posted by: Squisher
