^ Crosby better come back on the defensive zone and get involved as the center. Ovi's left wing responsibilities are far less yet still has very good numbers there. Explain that.

Ovi's points as a left winger are ridiculous when all he does is shoot... amassing points via goals are MUCH harder than assists... explain that.

Even Malkin's a more exciting player than Crosby though I don't put Crosby's skills down either.

I've actually cut clips from his 4 seasons that shows how he busts his ass coming back to make a defensive play when he has to... such as when he's the last man back or just covering for a defenseman's miscue. Now I wish I tagged them so I can show them one after another.

Give Ovi another superstar (the ancient Federov and Kozlov don't count) and the Caps would be a dynasty (think Oilers and Gretzky/Coffey/Kurri = Ovi/Green/anothersuperstar). I would bet that Ovi would score in the 70-80 goal range with someone else who is a big time threat to take the attention off of him.

Crosby and Malkin play on different lines 90% of the time... generally they are only together on powerplays.

You'll have to forgive his ignorance, he can't help it: 1) He's a WVU fan and 2) He's a Caps fan

I really don't know what to think about the Finals.

For a couple of these games it seems it's been a battle of the third/fourth liners, with the Pens and Wings one and two lines shutting each other down.

I'll be the first to admit that the Cap's captain (Clark) sucks (look at his +/-, jesus), and of course Crosby helps make the Pens better but it goes back to the original argument that he has more help as well (Malkin). Ovi gets another big name and they top the Pens any day of the week because Green is easily one of the best defenseman in the league (aside from his choking in that series). Just the fact that their series came down to 7 games is proof of how close they are, even if the Pens are slightly better at the moment.

I really doubt the Red Wings will lose a game 7 in their house, but stranger things have happened. They really underperformed in Game 6 so they're due...

in looking at the box score, Detroit was credited with 26 shots and Fleury was credited with 25 saves.

Did those several shots with 18 seconds left (when Fleury left the net open as he drifted to his left) actually count as shots? I don't see why they wouldn't...if so, did Fleury get credit on the stat sheet for making the saves when the D-man made the toe save and stick save??

Well Scuderi did say Fleury taught him some goalie skills.... however, Zettergoalie is clearly the better netminder.

As a person who has nothing riding on this series (other than being a huge hockey fan) I'd argue that game 6 was the best of the bunch mainly because the refs kept their arms down and let them play for the most part. Both sides got away with plenty.
Here's to hoping no one says a word about the officiating friday night/sat morning...

I think there is 100% chance I'll be cheering for Detroit.

That along with my prediction that it'll be dark Friday night.


Hockey is such a goofy game. Have it hit someone's backside, off the goalie's mask and kick it in your own goal ftl.

I still stand by my assertion that I wouldn't trade Datsyuk and Zetterberg for Crosby and Malkin. That being said, it comes down to the rest of the team. There Detroit has an edge, but in their losses those individuals were pretty invisible. Given it's a home game I'm going with D-town.

It's half correct, you posted that with knowingly it would probably piss me off. Besides the point it wasn't like I blamed it solely on the ref's. We didn't start playing until roughly 30 mintues into the game which is why we ended up losing.

I have no problem with the ref's keeping the arms down, its just they need to keep their arms down during the little stuff and call the obvious shit like they normally do.

ok, so I'll ask it again.. so how come the Wings were never bankrupt like the Pens were?

Looking at the Pens page on Wiki... looks like 1998 wasnt the only year they wernt bankrupt, 1975 as well. So basically, when Lemiuex or Crosby was playing, the team was popular, all other years they were forgotten. That's pretty much the definition of bandwagon.

In all the years between the '55 and '97 cups.. the Wings were a very healthy, and popular franchise in Detoit, even during the "Dead Wings" era.

i don't know how many times you need to dodge the subject, and i don't care. but dude - right now - here - today in the 2009 Stanley Cup Final series - the Wings have more bandwagon fans than the Pens. that's all i'm sayin - we can agree to disagree if you feel otherwise. perhaps my proximity to the bandwagon vacuum heightens my awareness to its ever-snapping axles. you bandied about the bandwagon term first, i just feel that the average NHL fan would agree with me that the Wings have a larger percentage of bandwagon fans than other teams *shrug*

edit: and i have no reason to BS about ebay tix available before any Wings regular season game up until gametime, anywhere i want to sit in the Joe. that's just common knowledge...

The refs need to call all these penalties, on both sides.
Let the skilled played show their skills... i hate how all the interference, hooking, and slashing goes on. I'd rather see a game where every trip up ice both ways is a 2 on 1 than a 1-0 game where both teams are palying dump and chase because neither team can enter the zone.
