^ You can still have end-to-end hockey with the mucking and grinding involved. One of my favorite games was the Pens/Caps where they put away their whistles and the continuous flow of the game let each team generate chances - think it was game 4 or 5. I don't want to see 15 powerplays in a hockey game even though that's always nice for your team. I don't want to see the all-star game in the playoffs. You have to earn every inch and to keep the players so restricted as to not be able to shoulder someone at an opportune time - that's not playoff hockey. Call the obvious hooks and holds but "incidental contact" between 2 players fighting for ice or fighting for the puck... that should remain. These are the good battles that show you're in playoff time. Stanley Cup champions shouldn't be "the most skilled team"... that's not earning anything.

i  the mucking and grinding!!!!!!

Ryan Smyth 4 lyfe.... this is also how i play the game. nothing fancy, not a lot of dangling, but creating turnovers on the forecheck and banging in garbage goals

that's hockey baby

Staal is probably my fav Penguin. For the Wings, I  the Mule.

I still have the game-used autographed Bauer Vapor Lite stick from the Mule's rookie year

meh... i respect you bc u like the pens...but

#66 & #68 werent famous because they were were garbage goal grinders.
they were danglers and playmakers and that is what hockey is supposed to be.

If crosby and malkin had the space that lemieux and gretsky had in the early years... this team would score 6 goals every game.

How so? I mean the definition of a bandwagon is someone who only likes a team when they are good.. for the Wings to not be good you'd have to go back to 1990 or so.

Do you mean theres more buzz during playoffs than during regular season? Well no shit sherlock. That happens on every team. Hell I dont get much into hockey until after football season is over. IMO they start the season too early (my boss wanted to take me to a pre-season game in late Sept, I was like WTF?)

And you have proximity to Detroit... umm ok, so thats a nice scientific comparison to Pittsburg, since you can also see thier fans come out of the woodwork. I live in Detroit.. and let me tell you I see no more Red Wings jerseys walkin around than I did last year... and the year before... and the years before that.

lol. yeah, i wasn't talking about Lemieux or Jagr. the concept of them grinding is laughable

I'm not a Pens or a Wings fan. see sig

edit: oh, and i disagree on what you think hockey is "supposed to be"

Did those several shots with 18 seconds left (when Fleury left the net open as he drifted to his left) actually count as shots? I don't see why they wouldn't...if so, did Fleury get credit on the stat sheet for making the saves when the D-man made the toe save and stick save??

anyone???

In order for a shot to be considered a shot on goal, it has to be able to stand a reasonable chance of going in and obviously the goalie has to stop it. The ones in the last 18 seconds were blocked by a forward in the crease, so they are considered blocked shots. The Pens had 20 blocked shots that don't count when it comes to Fleury's save percentage or shots on goal.

Too bad Scuderi couldn't be credited with three saves

Scuderi's toe save was amazing... I know Craig Simpson from CBC said it would have been saved anyway because Fleury's arm was back there, but that was a pretty hard shot... i think it might have been a goal if it weren't for Scuderi...

He played an AMAZING game 6. wow, solid defensive effort.

in my opinion, those 2 shots had a more reasonable chance of going in...so the shooter doesn't get credited with a shot then?

They should credit him. Heck they gave ozzy an assist credit.

right, blocked shots don't count as shots.

What if you hit the puck into your own goal with your butt?

- i didn't disagree, all i said was Wings were moreso
- you disagreed
- agree to disagree
- I will enjoy game 7 because i'm not a Wings homer

quiter.

"moreso" implies some kind of comparison... I asked.. and never got one. I guess a semi-logical debate was too much for you? You made about as much sense as saying "my car is faster, but I've never seen other cars.. but I know what I'm talking about, trust me."

i didn't quit, it just became clear to me that debating something such as this is fruitless
let us conclude that all teams gain bandwagon fans at playoff time.

My friend on my hockey team played with Scuderi in HS... he hated him. Syosset is 2 towns over.
