24 hours from now, Detroit will be celebrating.

The chances that Pittsburgh wins this game is somewhere around 20%, and I think that is being generous.

The statistics in Detroit:

Even strength goals
--
Pittsburgh 1
Detroit 7

Goaltending
--
Fleury
3.67 GA - .865 SV
77 Shots - 66 Saves

Osgood
0.67 GA - .977 SV
86 Shots - 84 Saves

Detroit is 11-1 at home in the playoffs.

The home team is 12-2 all time in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

Here's what I believe are the keys to the game:

Pittsburgh will need to score first. Fleury beats himself up after giving up a goal in Detroit. You see it in his body language every time. He is easily deflated. Osgood is much more mentally tough than Fleury. Really, this is the biggest key. Fleury will make or break Pittsburgh tomorrow. He MUST play his best game of the playoffs and give up zero soft goals.

Pittsburgh must score at least three to win. Detroit has surrendered three or more goals at home twice this year in the playoffs.

Pittsburgh must have more power plays than Detroit. Detroit has given up 10 even strength goals in 12 home playoff games this year.

Pittsburgh must be tied or leading going in to the 3rd period. Detroit gives up VERY few 3rd period goals and has yet to surrender at lead going into the 3rd.

The fact of the matter is that Detroit dominates even strength play, especially at home. I am a Red Wings homer. But I also know the facts. This is Detroit's game to win.

LET'S GO RED WINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Detroit was celebrating...well at least the Pens fans in Detroit.

Some Detroit injuries posted on another forum.

Here?s a breakdown of the injuries:

? Nicklas Lidstrom: He was speared in the testicles by Patrick Sharp during Game 3 against Chicago and underwent surgery on the area two days later. he Missed Games 4 and 5 against Chicago, then returned and played every game of the Cup finals.

? Rafalski: He ruptured a disk in his back between the first and second round but returned for Game 6 against Anaheim. ?It got to the point where he could play again,? Holland said, ?but if had been the regular season, he would have been out another week or two. He played through the pain of a herniated disk.?

? Kris Draper: He missed the first 10 games of the playoffs after taking a stick to the throat that tore cartilage in the neck area, Holland said. ?As a precaution, we didn?t want him to get hit in the neck and have something go down the air pipe wrong.? Draper was out from Game 4 against Chicago to Game 5 against Pittsburgh because of a pulled groin.

? Pavel Datsyuk: Suffered a charley horse when he was hit along the boards and also was hit by a slap shot in his foot during Game 2 against Chicago, causing him to miss seven games. ?The charley horse turned out to be more significant,? Holland said. ?He never was 100% -- he didn?t have any thrust. A charley horse can be a 4-6-week injury, but he pushed through to play.?

? Dan Cleary: Played through a groin pull suffered in Game 4 against Pittsburgh. ?He was very sore after Game 4, and we didn?t expect him to play in Game 5,? Holland said. ?An MRI showed he had a significant groin injury, but he wanted to play.?

? Tomas Kopecky: Needed surgery after he fractured his right orbital bone following fight with Francois Beauchemin in Game 4 against Anaheim. Missed the rest of the playoffs.

I'm sure we'll hear about Pittsburgh injuries too.

It seems that whenever a team loses the injury list comes out:

"Oh, player X was missing his right leg during the entire series."

It's the playoffs. There are tons of players with varying injuries in the playoffs.

This sounds like an attempt to deflect attention from the fact their team lost, just like the retarded Crosby handshake BS that Draper was whining about.

Though I have to say the Lidstrom injury is serious business and it further confirms my belief that he is in fact a cybernetic organism.

It's released for basically every team after their season is over. Every team plays through them in playoffs though... unless you're Sidney Crosby in a tight game 7 of the SC finals. He was noticeably in good spirits when asked to hoist the cup though.

Oh I had to take a stab.

BTW, I thought for sure Hossa would've had a line in that injury list... he never scored in the finals right? That's just not showing up when your team needs you... so he didn't deserve the cup anyway.

The question earlier in the season was whether to sign Hossa or Franzen, they wouldn't have the money to sign both. They chose Franzen. Wise move.

For people getting on Hossa (some even call him a traitor, Pittsburgh got him as a rental. He played less than one season there. It's not like he departed after several seasons.

I wanted Detroit to win for him. Crosby will have his share of cups. Plus now there's little chance of Hossa coming back to Ottawa. He'll probably sign long term in Detroit to get another chance at the Cup.
fuck Hossa and fuck the Wings!

Congrats Pens, you guys toughed it out longer than I thought you would. When it came down to 7, I dont think detroit had the hunger pittsburg did. Just goes to show why they say it's next to impossible to repeat.

Congrats Pens fans, I hope you guys were at least as hungover as I was all day satruday.

To those who arent Pens fans, but just hate the wings.. heh keep on hatin, we'll be back again next year

This one hurt. But next year it's just going to burn more. There was one thing the Wings lacked the final two games; passion. This loss, on home ice, in a game 7, will stick with them til next year, when they can once again hoist Lord Stanley's Cup.

Crosby - missed 2/3rds of Game 7
Gonchar - played with torn MCL
Sykora - OUT, only played 6 games in the entire playoffs

Kinda even I think.

Don't forget about:
? Jonathan Ericsson, who underwent an emergency appendectomy during the afternoon [of May 28th right after closing out the Blackhawks]. Ericsson, at least, is expected to be ready to go Saturday, when the Wings host the Penguins in Game 1.

My appendectomy took 2 weeks to heal and I had trouble pissing for 3 days after (they cut the abdominal muscles near your bladder). This guy played against the Pens 2 days after his, holy sht. No way he was even near full strength. Wings were definitely banged up at the wrong time.

True, but Ovi IS a machine so not surprising. He really only missed 4 games in his career!
Ovechkin has missed only four games in his four-year NHL career. He sat out one game during his rookie season in 2005-06 with a groin injury, and he was away for two games early this season to spend time with his ailing grandfather in Russia.

More on Ericsson's injury I must have missed. Forgot he scored a goal in that game too. One tough kid, I was still in a hospital bed comparatively speaking:

Ericsson's speedy return amazes others
Monday, June 01, 2009
By Shelly Anderson, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

DETROIT -- Jonathan Ericsson, who scored Detroit's first goal last night, did not seem to think it was a big deal that he was playing in the Stanley Cup final on back-to-back nights a few days after an appendectomy, but he understands that others do.

"Yeah, some people think it's crazy," the Detroit rookie defenseman said after the morning skate yesterday between Games 1 and 2 against the Penguins at Joe Louis Arena. "But you see what the doctors are doing, what kind of job they're doing. It's not that strange. I'm just happy I had the doctor I had for the surgery and the team doctors we have here."

Ericsson had the surgery Wednesday. He said having the area numbed before games helps.

Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom, who had a lower-body injury, spent Wednesday night in the locker room with Ericsson while the team wrapped up the Western Conference final with a victory against Chicago.

"He was in here on the couch lying down pretty much the whole game," Lidstrom said. "I told him, 'Just rest. You don't have to sit up or do anything.' That's what he did the whole game.
