You're right. Sticks don't break for no reason:

If the refs feel the situation getting out of hand, they'll call the penalty. So those people here whining about non-calls, get your panties out of your jockstrap.

We're pissed because we are back to the circa 1995-2002 rule calling. Which was obstruct, hit, hold, interfere all you want. I actually could not stand watching hockey during those years and this is what the finals are turning into.

Panties are not in a bunch. Alot of us just happen to remember the mid 1990s through 2002. We preferred hockey as it was played for the years 1900-1990 and 2004-current (except for the last two games). Basically the years where skills mattered.

I actually agree with you on this. The interference that has gone on in the last two games is much worse than what happened in any of the previous rounds and much much worse than what happened during the regular season.

It didn't take the players more than 5 minutes of the first game to figure out that someone had put the word out to "let them play."

Now, the peer pressure is so great that I'm sure the refs are thinking, "who wants to be the referee that killed hockey." Especially, when they hear after the game how the announcers were gushing. Hey, I don't want an endless parade to the box either, but there has to be some limits. I don't know if you saw the Anaheim series, but Detroit was physically abused by the fact that refs did not want to call everything because they didn't want to make the the games one hour power plays.

As both a hockey fan and a Red Wing fan I'd love to see a more wide open game. I'm not so sure the Pens would want to see that.

As the more "seasoned" team, the Wings have more players familiar how to play and win in clutch-and-grab hockey games. Anyone that didn't enter the league until after 2004 is at a natural disadvantage.

Damn Pens fas, stop complaining about missed calls and lucky bounces. This is not the way to a championship. This is why I keep referring to blinders.

What if every interference was called? Ya the Pens would probably score a few more goals a game, but so would the Wings, and you'd still be down 2-0.

Pens need intensity, plain and simple. When they crank it up, they are good. The last half of the 1st period they were dominant. They showed it for a total of about 20 minutes of game 2, had they kept it up the whole game, they would have easily had another 2 goals. Wings are consistent. A great coach once told me "the difference between good and great is consistency."

"the announcers said...the announcers said" blah blah blah. They were wrong. Every team in the NHL interferes. Even the Pens. Get over it. You really think the Penguins only committed ONE penalty in game 1? Really?

Pens fans are starting to sound like their captain now....do i really need to get an ascii wahmublance?

Malkin didn't get out of any suspension; the suspension is at the leagues discretion. And before it gets said that Malkin got preferential treatment because he's on Bettman's team, that instigator rule is put in place so that teams don't go out and intentionally starting gooning it up when the game is out of reach.

According to the video that is such damning evidence, Zetterberg gave Talbot a shot with his glove on and that's when Malkin got upset and went after Zetterberg.

Of course every team interferes, every team does things that could be considered "illegal." The point is that the Wings get away with it a lot and have probably been getting away with more than the Pens this series so far.

Anyways, the irony of Wings fans calling Crosby and/or the Pens a bunch of whiners/crybabies is too rich.

1) The game wasn't out of reach? The gutless punk slashed him with a stick to the neck, dropped his gloves, and tried to sucker punch the opposing team's best player. Oh, I forgot, he scores goals so he's allowed to do that. You see a support player do that during the regular season and there would be multiple game suspensions and $$$ fines.

2) After Talbot mistook Ozzy for one of the vampires from Twilight and decided to to impale him with his stick. I don't know if that works with composite.

3) It is impossible to assess how much is going on through a TV screen. All your best interference is going on away from the play and away from the cameras. All I can say is that the most blatant, hard to not call interference is being done by the Pens. Maybe, the Wings are just better at it.

4) I'll consider the source.

The game was out of reach by then but Malkin wasn't on the ice for the sole purpose of starting a brawl. He saw Zetterberg punch Talbot with his glove on and then went after him. Nice of you to ignore that because of course the innocent angels on the Wings could never do anything wrong. And btw support players have also had their suspensions overturned in these playoffs.

Talbot didn't spear Osgood; he was going after the puck and pushed Osgood with this stick. Nice Greg Louganis impersonation by Osgood though.

And when Malkin and Zetterburg squared up.. mano y mano.. two separate pens came in behind looking to either grab or sucker punch Zetterburg. douchebags.

See? we can play this stupid game all day.

Let me make sure I'm clear. The Wings:

Dive
Obstruct
Fight like babies

Is that right?

You people talk like the Wings are playing like the 1999 New Jersey Devils. That's ridiculous. They are very subtle about what they do and how they do it. The Pens can't play dump and chase against the Wings because Detroit has the best puck-moving defensemen in the league. They can't carry it into the zone because the Wings are constantly forechecking with their forwards and they protect at the blueline with their D.

Regarding Malkin, how many times did he throw a punch with his gloves on? How many times did he swing at Zetterberg with his stick in his hand? And what about the fact that he jumped him? Watch the video again. All Zetterberg did was push Talbot after he chopped at Osgood. Yes, Talbot was trying to chop at the puck, but anyone who watches hockey understands that if you chop at a goalie in front of the net or give him a snow shower, you are going to probably get pushed and shoved a little bit. Malkin freaked out out of frustration and decided to engage Zetterberg. All that being said, Malkin didn't deserve a suspension. That rule is in place to avoid a coach sending the goon squad on the ice at the end of a game to take liberties with the other teams players.

I'm not saying the Wings are angels. But Pens fans who complain about the "bad officiating" and "luck" of the Wings need to count the number of similar "missed" calls that the Pens were guilty of. Matt Cooke's late elbow against Holmstrom, Gill's slash on the hands of Helm's near breakaway, etc.

You are talking about the two least-penalized teams in the playoffs. It was this reason (along with Fleury's poor SV %) that made me confident that the Wings could win the series. Pittsburgh just gives up way too many goals at even strength.

Man, I hope the Penguins can beat the Devils tonight and at least give us a bit of a series. Hopefully being at home will give them a boost.

Not for swinging a stick at the best player on the opposing team in the waning minutes of a game.

There are a few lines in hockey you don't cross. You don't swing the stick. You don't kick with a skate. You don't butt end with your stick.

A cross-check to the ear or nose might actually do more damage then a weak hearted swing, but the cross check will illicit a much lesser penalty than the three offenses I listed above.

Look, Malkin lost it. It's not the first time I've seen a player lose it, especially being a Wings fan for so long. The Wings thrive on it. And because of that, Malkin and the Pens won't win a cup until they figure that out.

Red Wings keep piling up the disabled list.

Samuelson will be out for "unknown reasons" after today's practice.

Datsyuk's return delayed until thursday.

Samuelsson is apparently sick. Draper is healthy and will likely play in his place. That's actually good for a road game. Draper provides better defense and he is better in the faceoff circle. Samuelsson has been good, but we will need stronger D when Pittsburgh gets to dictate matchups after whistles.

Datsyuk skated hard today and they said that they received some good news from the doctors. Looks like he may actually be a go for Thursday!

Go back and watch a pre-lockout Devils / Wild / etc game. It's not even close.

hmm, I was actually doubting them using Draper tonight, but now that you mention faceoffs, he could be very good there. Especially since Crosby was pretty hot in faceoffs Sunday night.

All I know is we are a bunch of rabid fans, arguing over such trivial shit as "He swung first because of this and that" It was a hockey fight, it happens. These games are exciting and great for hockey as a whole. I hope Pitt wins tonight, cause I hate Detroit, but no matter what happens, two awesome teams are playing and giving us some very entertaining games.

I love hockey!

I too am loving the action.

My call was D in 5...

Although I am still hoping it goes the distance, and game 7 OT too

I'm supposed to watch game 5 @ in D-town @ Cheli's with some friends... so I at least hope Pitt can win one of their home games.

Ya I predicted 5 as well. Pens will win one at home.

I just hope that this years game 5 they dont let the cup in the building like they did last year... showing it being carried in on TV/Jumobotron, the handler getting it out and polishing it... shiiiiit

If I was Ilitch I would have guards posted outside the building, refusing entry to the cup until the game was over.
