What does +/- mean in the nba stats?

Usually its +/- in a certain stat while some certain player is on the court.

EX: When KG is on the floor, the +/- for points is +6, meaning the celtics outscore the Cavs by 6 points while KG is on the floor.

It could be used for rebounding, assists, etc etc

Thanks

AND dont get me started on lebron's 3pt attempts that game. if you cant make it DONT SHOOT IT!

o well. We will win at home and then game 7 will be a damn doozy.

The more I watch him, the more I think Brown is a terrible coach. After Lebron had not problem getting to the rim in the first half, the Cavs kept going to the Lebron at the top of the key, dribble for 18 seconds, then jack up a terrible shot. I can't count the number of times the Cavs have come out in the 3rd quarter and blown the game.

As coachable as Lebron is (atleast seems to be), the team should know exactly what to do when he gets double and triple teamed, yet everyone seems clueless and unprepared, as if they are making it up as they go along. On the other hand you take a team like the spurs, who get a lot of double teams thrown at them, they execute like assassins most of the time. Boston isn't a great rotating team by any stretch, and the fact that Brown doesn't have his team prepared to shred them is coaching suicide imo.

Brown's answer to a win: Lebron played great. He's really great isn't he?
Brown's answer to a loss: Lebrong played great. I don't know what gives?

WTF!! Two bogus back to back offensive fouls on Chris Paul. Bowen was clearly off his feet fouling CP as he went for a shot instead the call went the other way. 2nd one CP barely nudge Bowen with one hand. Bowen being the actor he is flail as if hit by a charging rhino. These refs are trying real hard to let Spurs win.

EXACTLY! the Chandler foul was much worse because Parker is so much smaller and had a lot of momentum running down the court.

those off fouls against Paul/West weren't bogus.. you lower your shoulder into the chest of a defender = Charge. You swat the arm of a defender (even IF you're both in the air) = Clearing Out. You might want to brush up on the rules a bit.

It's more like home court adv officiating. I didn't see a lowered shoulder. It may appear that way when a much shorter player runs next to a taller player. When both guys go up in the air resulting in body contact, the guy driving to shoot usually is called in favor. If the defender wants to take a charge he should not be shuffling his feet or go to the air to impede his path (which Bowen did).

This "swatting" you refer to is more like a simple brush. You can argue that these NBA players seem to be made of straws though, since a little touch can send them flailing about. People complain about soccer players diving to get the calls. Some of these NBA players are just as bad. This is because the officials call too many ticky tacky fouls.

I would take any advice from an internet board "to brush up on the rules" with a grain of salt especially from someone with a Spurs bias. As someone who has actually played high school basketball and plenty street ball, any advice from an armchair warrior just seems silly.

Sorry, but any hand contact with skin is considered a foul in the NBA, obviously YOU missed the reach in by West that completely knocked Duncan's arm down. And how do you know what his background is? Maybe he played college ball, but you wouldn't know that. And comparing HS basketball and street ball to the NBA is like comparing model airplanes to flight mechanics - it's stupid to even try to make the comparison.

This is true, however the Chandler pick was at the top of the three point line. The pick on west was down almost in the paint. Screens in the paint? Kind of weird. And it looked like horry dug into it just as much as chandler did.

I made no mention of West and Duncan so no comment there (since Duncan is one of my fav player I would be a bit bias as it is). If you looked at my post prior you'd realized it was only about Bowen & CP. And you're right, I don't know what his real background in basketball is. I just like to return the volley.

Paul was simply (and rightly) angered that pockets of Spurs fans let loose with a few chants of "Horry, Horry, Horry" after West was knocked to the floor and had to be helped to the locker room. "Our man gets hurt and they start chanting [for] Horry," Paul said in disbelief. - SOURCE: ESPN

Spurs fans are pieces of shit. 'Nuff Said

?He took a good shot in the back,? Byron Scott said afterward. They would say more in private, and Tyson Chandler summed up the mood of the locker room when asked if Horry?s blow had been intended for someone already with a bad back. Chandler admitted to not seeing the play, but Horry?s presence confirmed the worst. ?I wouldn?t doubt it,? Chandler said. - SOURCE: San Antonio Express-News

Yep. I wouldn't doubt it either.

Yah and NO fans cheered when Bonzi hit Bowen in the head, and when Chandler knocked Parker down. NO fans are pieces of shit too.

And considering every, and I mean every NBA analyst says that the foul was clean, that Horry leaned into it to prevent being knocked over himself. Sorry, but Paul was also bitching because he was finally getting called for the offensive forearm pushoffs.

Eh, nothing you can do about Spur's cheap shots. They're just masters at doing what they do w/o getting caught. They do it so subtlety, it looks like an accident. If anybody else does it, it's a flagrant.

The funniest part about it is how the spurs fans defend it and just say they are getting a bad rap.

At least the Pistons fans during the "bad boy" era admitted their players were cheap and dirty. Spurs fans are in a perpetual state of denial. Its hilarious.

Bruce bowen has been BY FAR the cheapest player in the NBA for years now. Just admit it.

Yup, that's why he's been 1st or 2nd team all-defensive how many years in a row now? It's obvious people hate the spurs because they win, but I love watching defense in basketball, that's why i like watching detroit and san antonio. Paul got away with a lot of stuff he was called for yesterday, that's why he was upset. And if it were anyone besides horry who set that pick, would we be even having this discussion?

Hey, do us all a favor. Search youtube for bruce bowen. Come back. Then tell us what you saw and explain the 200+ videos of his dirty plays. Thanks.

Nope, if it was anyone else in the NBA we wouldn't having this discussion. Thats the whole point of it.

Actually, I do like watching Detroit. They usually play a man-up, stout defense that is rock solid. It just feels more honest when I watch them. I love watching Tayshawn prince because he is a very solid CLEAN defender. The pistons are a good example of solid, all-around defense, and the Spurs are an example of "Get away with as much as you can, because they cant call EVERY foul" sort of defense.

Bowen hacks, slaps, and does everything he can hoping he can get away with it. The fact is that he is not a solid, all around defender. When was the last time you saw him block a shot? Steal a ball? When was the last time you saw an NBA player kick another player in the face? Stick their foot under the opposing players landing foot? Kick players while on the ground?

The spurs have a deep bench of role players. Is Oberto anything besides a fouling distraction that flops trying to draw fouls on the star players? Is kurt thomas anything but an annoyance who draws lots of fouls on the opposing players big man? The fact is that San Antonio has a deep bench which they can rely on to hack the crap out of teams. The refs cant call every foul the spurs make, and I truly believe that this is their underlying strategy. "KEEP FOULING, THEY CANT CALL EVERYTHING!"
