As much as this is bad for the majority of Americans, is this "good" for a young person like me who wants to invest a lot in the stock market? I have 30k coming out of a CD and looking to put at least half of it into stocks or mutual funds.

Even though there are a lot of companies that look cheap , this is by no means the bottom. It's going to get worse before it gets better. There's nothing wrong with keeping your money on the sideline for now.

It took over two years for the dot com bubble to bottom out, just start doing research now and when things start to look better you'll have the cash and knowledge to invest. It's tough to make money in this type of market because even good companies get dragged down.

Imagine the bill passed today and we drop like this. That would've really scared people. I bet VIX would've hit 70 then.

I'm sorry for the folks that bought much higher, but it's worth more than what it is now. NVDA has $1.66 billion in cash and no debt and is profitable while AMD has billions in debt and huge losses per quarter during a credit crunch. AMD last got help from Lehman Bros and they're gone. Who helps them next?
