wow, i'm still in shock. ok, let me throw out some thoughts on the game:
1. the biggest factors in this game, without any doubt, were the giants offensive and defensive lines. their play influenced the outcome of the game far more than manning, brady, burress, moss, etc. the giant's d-line overran the patriots and put incredible pressure on brady, effectively stifling the offense. the giants o-line provided incredible protection for manning, leaving him almost untouched the entire game and giving him plenty of time to pick the pats D apart. say what you will, but all the credit goes to the o and d lines, and i congratulate them on it.
2. brady did not look like himself today, at all. as mentioned above, the pressure likely played a part in it. however, he seemed really really off: even with time & space to throw the ball, he consistently missed the target. maybe he was injured (rumors about a bad ankle), maybe he choked, but this was extremely out of character for him.
3. to add to that, the patriots offense in general has looked very different the last 3-4 games. once maroney got healthy and the cold weather came in, it seems like they switched to a more conservative short range game. this worked great during the winter, but once they got back to warm weather and a beautiful field - something that earlier in the season should have been a huge boost - they just couldn't switch back. they didn't look like the dangerous, record setting offense we'd seen all year long. the giants certainly get a lot of credit, but the pats just haven't been as lethal in the last few games.
4. the giants got very lucky with fumbles very early in the game. they choked up the ball twice - once deep in their own territory - but were fortunate to get it back each time. Had the patriots recovered and gone up 2 or 3 scores early, the game would've been over.
i gotta say that sports are crazy. had the pats won today, they would have gone down as (more or less) the greatest team in history. brady would've been (more or less) the greatest qb in history. certainly top 3 in both categories. after losing one game, they are now just a "good" team and brady is just a "good" qb. this one loss bumps them down real far the historic list. it's a damn shame - the 19-0 season would've been beautiful, but as usual, NY has to ruin the day for Boston
