Ouch, too bad on having Gagne there. I'm really hoping he can get his touch back. He might still be injured, because he does seem to avoid the slot quite often.

It's funny you mention Carter. Honestly, I'm American, but it's hard not to root for Canada just a little bit. All of my favorite players are on that damn team! Meanwhile, the US roster has two guys who play for the Devils, that's no good as a Flyers fan! If a D-man gets injured and the US picks up Matt Carle, that might even things out for me.

I tried to make peace by purchasing a USA jersey, but you just can't find the olympic jerseys right now, let alone custom.

Would have been nice, but no such luck. Who would you have liked to have seen gone? Personally I wouldn't mind exchanging Liles, Salei, Clark, Wolski (for the right price), Svatos (for a bag of pucks), Tucker, and that's pretty much it.

Yea exactly. I think Svatos is a great player that just needs a change of scenery. Tucker is worthless, and nobody would want Salei or Clark. Wolski I think we should probably keep unless we can get something decent.

As it stands, I think we could get a decent winger or prospect/pick by packaging Liles and Svatos to someone. I really do think Svatos will be good again in the right system

Personally, I think we (the avs) got shafted on this deal. Unless mueller picks up his play big time, or porter ends up being a solid 3rd liner, we traded away a solid player with good potential for an even bigger risk.

So pissed. Should be an interesting game tomorrow, though.

Have fun with Whitney. I never thought he was very good in Pittsburgh, so I was glad to see him unloaded.

edit: There were actually a couple games where Therrian made him play left wing because he was sucking at D so much.

i can't believe all the dead weight they are still carrying. they did almost nothing. i watched the first period of the Hawks / Oilers last night and they are pathetic. just a pathetic hockey team right now.

yup... should be an exciting run for the caps this year...

My Thoughts on the caps trades:

• Walker - Solid 4th line player and is an instant upgrade to gordon/laing. He is solid 2 way player with some grit... He was a steal for a 7th round pick
• Belanger - fast, solid, 2 way center who is awesome at faceoffs. He can fill the 3rd line center that we needed so flash and laich can go back to their natural position as wingers. We did not overpay
• Jurcina - old cap... using purely as a backup, but he did play well for us in the playoffs last year. 6th round pick ain't bad either for payment.
• Corvo - This is like Mike Green Junior... exact same style of play, but doesn't score nearly as much. He will be a key component in the 2nd PP line. He will fill the 2nd D pairing while shultz/green get first pairing... I think we did overpay for him a bit, but he's is no doubt better then pothier... There was a rumor that philly and caps were in a bidding war for him... If it weren't for the 2nd pick it would be a wash in terms of payment
• Potential Lineups (my guesses):
  • Forwards:
    • Ovechkin-Backstrom-Knuble
    • Semin-BMo-Fleischmann
    • Chimera-Belanger-Laich
    • Walker/Bradley-Steckel-Fehr/Bradley
  • D Pairings:
    • Schutlz and Green
    • Corvo and Juice/Alzner/ShaMo/Erskine/Carlson
    • Poti and Juice/Alzner/ShaMo/Erskine/Carlson

Overall, the caps increased their depth in both forwards and D without giving up any roster players, minus pothier ... Our potential lineups are pretty awesome now... Our already potent offense got even more potent...

I would grade GM George McPhee a B- (sucks we couldn't get kaberle, but supposedly he wouldn't waive his ntc to come to Washington)

I would love to see another Caps-Pens matchup in the playoffs this year. I think we (the pens) would probably lose this year though, but it would still be epic.

Honestly, I think this is the worst I've seen the team play since 2002. Kovalchuk, Parise, Elias, Zajac, Langenbrunner, and Zubrus up front and they got shut-out by the worst team in the league and a rookie goaltender.

Tomorrow's going to be a disaster: we're going to get smoked by the Rangers in our own building with half the fans in the arena wearing blue jerseys and singing "Marty" all night.

I can only hope they do a 180 before the playoffs, then this stretch can just be forgotten.
