Official 2009 Predictions thread!

We did this last year, and it was somewhat fun, even though most people did not come back to the thread at the end of 2008. So let's give this another try. Post your 2009 console gaming predictions, and let's see who is the most psychic of us all at the end of 2009.

I predict that people will purchase consoles and games.

Wii continues to be a fad.
Microsoft will give me what i want, a handheld that plays live arcade games.
PS3 continues to be in third place.
sony execs will continue their whole we have potential, just wait sales pitch.
GT5 will be out in the fall.
Killzone 2 gets poor ratings. lackluster sales
GTA4 DLC gets 9.5+ rating
No announcement of any kind on wii or xbox succesor. Rumors don't count.
I will finally finish Twilight Princess after 3 years of being stuck @ about 50%

No one cares about GTA DLC
Some kind of news about downloadable content. Not sure from who or what, but maybe big news. I wouldn't be surprised if MS releases their big fall game on disc and on the marketplace, as a test run.

Based on the previews (and being in the beta myself), I doubt that will be the case. Most everyone has been cautious about hyping this game due to the first one, but everything you read about it is usually very positive and unable to keep SOME hype (ok, a LOT) from spreading.

I predict that the PS3 will see another price drop...summer time, maybe? I'll take a BIG stretch here and say a $50 drop at the least, but possibly a $100 drop.
I also believe it will start to outsell the 360 again (likely not overcoming total sales, though).
Wii Fit will finally be able to be bought for under $100 off Craigslist and eBay.
Nintendo gives another crappy E3 conference.
GT5 delayed until late 2010.

Epic releases a second dlc for Gears2 dubbed "The Cliffy B Experience". In addition to a playable Cliffy B model whose voice overs randomly hype Gears3, all horde/submission/guardian (leaders) bots will be replaced with various Cliffy B models for players to teabag. It sells 2 million copies in the first five minutes.

-Wii will still be a strong seller, easily in #1 slot.
-Wii gets 800 more accessories that you need for specific games...
-As said, Killzone 2 will look great but have mediocre gameplay.
-The next Zelda game will be announced, possibly released in late '09
-MGS5 will be hinted at by studio, if not announced
-Relatively unknown/unhyped game will be considered for GotY by many
-GoW: The Movie will be announced
-Resident Evil 5 will sell like hotcakes and will be considered "even better than RE4!"

There will be many 360s that run out of RRoD warranty this year. It will result in a strong sales year for the platform, as sales numbers from first time buyers and multiple 360 owners, will be augmented by this demographic. With the Wii, it is eventually everyone who wants one will have one. With the 360, it will be everyone who has had one since '06, will need to replace it.

The glut of old, cheap, 360s on the used market, will make the modding and pirating scene explode in scale, as many will have an extra one dedicated to that purpose alone. The PC gaming crowd will have great cannon fodder as a result. :laugh:

EDIT: MS will get back all of that 1 billion plus charge off on repairs, and more, thanks to the brilliant strategy of releasing jasper at a time when many first year buyers will take another chance on the platform because of it. /tongue in cheek

I'm telling you guys, the Killzone 2 beta was addicting. Outside of some glitches and occasional framerate drops (expected in the beta, though), it was REALLY good. I had non-Killzone 1 fans (people who had either never played it or thought it was disappointing) asking me to play it (because they wanted more of it). Don't be so quick to make suck negative predictions about it.

All the fanboys here want Killzone 2 to tank so that they can actually look past the fact that the best looking console game ever is on the PS3.

I don't care. I'm getting Killzone 2 no matter what, and will it enjoy it no matter what the critics tell me. I enjoyed the first one a lot, just the constant bugs annoyed me but the game was fun and had a good story, so I'm excited for this one.

Here's my predictions:
-Kojima announces another Metal Gear project, but isn't MGS5.
- He also announces Zone of the Enders 3 (come on come on, be true! KOJIMA. DO IT. NOW. DO IT. 3...2...1.. DO IT. DO IT))
-Wii sales slow down as Nintendo slips up and finally starts manufacturing proper numbers and stores are flooded with systems, breaking the false demand cycle, finally.
-360 sales continue to do well, but a Spring PS3 price drop to 299 spikes PS3 sales.
-Sony has stellar trade show performances (e3, japan, europe, etc), while Microsoft puts on a good show and Nintendo continues to bore, probably releasing some other useless device that idiots will foam at the mouth for.
-Blu-ray prices are going to drop to crazy lows, so PS3 sales as blu-ray players will basically drop off almost completely. Already seems to be happening as well.
-GT5 will have damage modeling added to it in a new patch, and GT5 will either release late 2009 or early 2010.
-Microsoft will surprise announce a few must-have exclusive hits, that release toward end of the year
-GTA IV 360 DLC will sell well, will rate decently to great, an 8 or higher
-Nintendo will announce new Zelda project, will be drool-worthy, 2010 release
-Sony will see announce a new Team ICO game, either late 2009 or 2010 release, will initiate massive drool
-PS3 continues to see more devs use it as lead platform for multiplatform releases

There's fanboi's on both sides. Sony fanboi's are still looking for a "savior" game to boost their console up. Personally I don't own a PS3 but I hope it does well and delivers a kick in the butt to companies like Epic who put out a terribly buggy/shoddy GoW 2 game and raises the bar.

Yeah I really enjoy my PS3 with the exclusives it currently has, but yep, I'm hoping soon for a definitive killer title so that more people will hop on board, because the more PS3 owners out there, the more games will sell, and thus better for all PS3 owners. Ends up getting developers to wake up and put effort on the PS3 releases, like Bethesda and their shitty PS3 work, among a few other developers though now they are turning around. Capcom is putting more effort into the PS3 and it's showing already.
