No excuses. They played crappy from the get go and got beat by the team that came out fired up like they wanted to play football. Losing Andre Smith a few days before the game and then Mike Johnson in 1st quarter on the OL only compounded the crappiness.

Still, overall a good season for Bama. Nobody expected 12-2 and them playing in the SEC Championship Game with a shot at the BCS Title.

UF (or is it FU?) is currently #1 in the AP. For Utah to get even a sniff at #1 Okie would have to barely squeak out a win... like 3-2 and look terrible doing it. And yes, OSU would have to take UT out to the woodshed.

Okie would then either be the champ or split it with Utah. Really tho, I don't think that's likely to happen. Utah might get #2 or something but more likely #4 behind Fla, Okie and USC.

they went 13-0 and beat the same team that Florida did to get to the NCG, and in a more convincing fashion...

if Florida loses (doesn't matter how) I don't see how there's any way an undefeated Utah ends up behind a 2 loss Florida

I mean I know all the Utah fans are gonna hate on me for this, but Alabama beat themselves. I saw alot more plays where Alabama screwed up than I saw plays where Utah did something exceptional.

If you screw up more than the other team, you're a worse team...

In a perfect world, of course, all your defensive players make their tackles and all your offensive players make the clutch catches & shed tackles but that's just not how it is. It seems like these excuses come flying out whenever a "better" team loses to a "worse" team. It sucks because the perceived-lower team can't win. If they lose, its because they're the worse team, and everyone makes fun of their conference. If they win, its because the "better" team beat itself/didn't want to be there/was missing player xyz, and everyone makes fun of their conference anyways.

And no, I'm not from Utah or something, just something I've observed.

I am not a Utah fan (though I was cheering for them-the whole underdog factor), but how many of those "screwed up plays" were due to Utah pressure. You have to admit that their defense completely shut down Bama running game, forcing their QT to throw more often. He was sacked only 11 times this season, 8 in this game alone.

We need a college football playoff system. This game cemented it for me. There is not a single professional league in the world where a team as relatively good as Utah cannot even compete for the championship.

If I'm a Utah fan, I'll enjoy this victory, but my excitement is tempered by the fact that due to the opinions of coaches and the hodge podge group of people that make up the Harris Poll, my undefeated team will be shunned.

I'm all for a playoff system if someone can come up with a good way to do it. I thought I had a good one in mind but I think it still would have screwed Utah in the end.

Anyway, the more I think about this the more I want a playoff and not necessarily for the same reasons that have been discussed. Yes, based on what happened yesterday I want to see how Utah would do against the next team in line. However, I would also like to see how an Alabama team that went from playing in the national championship one week to practicing for... Utah... the next would do if they knew a win actually meant something. Utah at least had respect to play for and they got it. Alabama was in a situation where a win was one of those 'Ha, it was Utah who cares' and knew that nothing they did would get them into consideration for a #1 spot in the AP poll.

(BTW, I'm a Tennessee fan therefore I f'n hate Alabama. No apologies from me there... just a college football fan wanting to see what we all want to see... a playoff)

Hmm thats pretty interesting I missed the first half but watched the last 12 minutes of the game and what I seen was a Bama team getting thier ass handed to them on Both sides of the ball.....

Well, that goes very much into the 'Alabama beat themselves' argument considering the LT debacle keeping him out of the game and then the injury to his backup. Most people don't even put stock into offensive linemen and only care about the skill positions but hey, I would argue that after QB the most important offensive position on the field (assuming RH QB) is the LT.
