Rolen struck out 8 times in 3 games this series. Hit .091.

That is sweet, belated revenge for the city of Philadelphia. Now if only JD Drew was still any good and came to Philly on D battery day...

I have ZERO hard feeling towards Scott Rolen, and always have. He begged and begged Phils management to spend some dough, but back then, they were a big market team with a small market mentality.

Philly fans may want to forget, but there was NO satisfying the angry, bottomless hunger of Phils fans. They demanded more from Rolen than any one player could provide.

Scott Rolen has always been A-OK with me. He's one of the best fielding third basemen of all time, imho, and a gritty, old school gamer. This last half season, he's been playing with serious back injuries, not that he'd ever let on. He's exactly like Chase Utley in this regard.

What I would point to is young stud and trendy league MVP candidate Joey Votto, in his prime and with NO excuses -- he hit .100 for the series.

Still not a fan of a multimillionaire athlete demanding that he not have to play out his contract in town, though.

I really liked Rolen as a Phillie. For the most part, he was the only reason to even turn the TV on and watch them back then. In '97, Rolen was literally the only bright spot on a team that JD Drew walked away from and finished 30+ games back. I mean, Rico friggin Brogna was otherwise the face of the franchise. In '02 when Rolen got traded, Rollins was still young and not yet reaching his potential - so we got to watch the least clutch player in MLB history, Bobby Abreu, along with Mike "I'm signing this contract and retiring on the field" Lieberthal.

Total slap in the face. I don't give a shit if management wasn't trying hard enough to win. I agree, they weren't. But Rolen was the only reason to watch the Phillies those years. Getting Polanco back was great, until Wade shit the bed and traded him rather than putting David Bell on the bench where he belonged.

You know what? Typing that last sentence does make me have some empathy for what Rolen did...

Does Philly still have a professional baseball team?

well, it's in the National League, so semi-pro anyway.

Now that Texas and TB will be using their #1 starters again for a game 5, neither will be in a position to challenge the Yankees in the ALCS. Guess I should start rooting for the Phillies as the only hope left to stop a Yankees repeat, but it is probably inevitable.

Hey Reds fans, I just wanna' say, keep your heads up. You have a good young team with a lot of talent, and you play in a wide open division (NL Central) with no dominant team, so your future looks bright.

Also, I happen to like the Queen City, Cincinnati.

Texas/Tampa don't need Cliff Lee or Price to beat the Yankees.

After the All Star break:
7/17: Niemann wins 10-5 over Burnett
7/30: Davis over Hughes 3-2
8/1: Shields over Sabathia 3-0
8/10: Feliz over Rivera in 10, 4-3 (Wilson only gave up 2ER as TX starter)
9/10: Feldman over Gaudin in 13, 6-5 (Wilson gave up 4ER as TX starter)
9/11: Ogando over Rivera 7-6 (Hunter only gave up 2ER as TX starter)
9/15: Qualls over Hughes 4-3 (Shields only gave up 1ER as Tampa starter)

Of the playoff starters, it looks like Texas has locked down NY more with starters not named Lee. Also, NY hasn't seen Texas much aside from getting swept by them in September. So hopefully Texas can close out the pesky Rays today because they have a great shot at beating NY with homefield advantage.

LOL what about the other games they played against each other? You just outlined all the wins.

Ok let's make it easier. Tampa only played 13 games, Price started 4. So that left 9 games, 5 quality starts by Shields/Niemann/Davis/Hellickson. Basically the only ones who gave up more than 3 were Garza (3X) and Shields (once). NY eats Garza for breakfast/lunch/&dinner and the only way I'd feel confident with the Rays vs NY would be if Maddon didn't pitch him (not going to happen).

Texas only played NY 5 times: 2 by Lee, in the 3 left Wilson and Hunter had a quality start apiece and Wilson gave up 4ER in the last game. Texas went 4-1 against, 5 is a much smaller sample size than 13 so NY isn't completely familiar with Texas. Plus Cliff Lee owns NY whereas NY owns Garza of the Rays (automatic loss there).

I hear what you are saying, but all that stuff goes out the window in the postseason IMO. I'm just glad they took the series to 5 games. Even with the off days in between tonights game and Fridays, it gives the Yanks a little bit of an edge I think.
