It's the middle of April and usually by now I'm pretty fired up about the new season baseball season. My team has been the Padres for almost 20 years but I can't even fool myself into thinking they'll get to .500 this year. I've been doing fantasy baseball the past few years but it sucked so much time that I convinced myself not to do it this year. It really did make me want to stay up to date but without it, I have no incentive to see what's going on.

Oh well. I guess I know how the people who think baseball is boring feel (which probably is a majority here).

edit 5/14/10: Wow, break out the broom. Nice job taking 6 out of 6 from the Giants so far this season. I've been watching more and more of the games so I am actually starting to get back into baseball as well. I'm still hesitant to hope for much more than a competitive summer of baseball, but I guess we'll have to see.

If you're still watching baseball, then you still have a ways to go, friend. Baseball is second only to soccer as the most boring sport in the history of the universe. Everyone knows this.

C'mon, a bad day at the ballpark is better than your best day at work.
Everyone knows this.
PSA Baseball and soccer are at least sports unlike golf.

Hmm...

"This message is hidden because theflyingpig is on your ignore list."

Hahah, same here.

I'm a Twins fan...so I've been looking forward to this season since they announced their new stadium. This being the first year of the new stadium and the money they spent in the off season leads to pretty big excitement surrounding the Twins this year.

I do actually like going to Petco Park and just hanging out there. It's a beautiful ballpark but I don't have many friends who are into baseball in San Diego. All of my friends who love baseball are buddies from college who live either in the bay area or LA and I'm sure as hell not going to go to a Dodgers game.

I'm also pissed at the new owners for basically trying to recreate the Rays ball club.

And what sports does the flying pig prefer? ...I mean, besides these:

What, exactly is wrong with gay games? Do you have a problem with gay people, Blackjack200? Do you feel that they are inferior? Do you feel that gays who play sports should be mocked? What is it, Blackjack200, what is it that made you post what you did? Was it bigotry? I think it was. I think it was.

I watched about 20 minutes of the home opener as they pounded the Braves but that's it. I know they've played some decent baseball, but the good players will be gone by August anyway.

It would be pretty hard to get very into the Padres this year.

I've been struggling for the last week (and will be for another) because of a west-coast trip. Hard to keep up with 10pm games.

hah if you havent been following the team closely look at chase headley's stats so far this season. russell has been a welcome bullpen addition and once we get the top of the line-up going things should start clicking a lot better. it's a young team and i think if we're contending we may just hang on to a-gon/bell just a little bit longer. keep the faith!

if you like going to petco i get offered tickets quite often. next time i get offered some for a decent series ill go to a game and throw out an invite, just promise me you're not a serial killer.

But, that's the beauty of baseball, it's accessible to everyone. You get to answer their questions, get caught up with the crowd, drink beer and eat hotdogs. Hell, most people think baseball is boring because they've only seen it on tv. the ballpark is a whole 'nuther thing.

I'm trying to keep my heart from being broken again but here you go bringing in hope.

Yeah, that would be cool actually to go to a game with another real Padres fan. Homerboy can actually attest to me being a non-serial killer as I met him during his trip to SoCal.

So, would you say you're more of a "pitcher" or a "catcher"?

I'm also pissed at the new owners for basically trying to recreate the Rays ball club.

There are worse teams to emulate than the Rays, at least recently. Sure, for years I called them a disgrace to baseball, and they were. However, they've drafted smart* and got ownership who actually cares. Now they're reaping the benefits and are the 2nd best team in the AL.

Although their atrocity for a stadium needs to be burnt to the ground. I don't like the Rays one bit, but a lot of that hate stems from Tropicana "Field". What a joke.

*yes, it's easy to draft smart when you're picking #1 every year. But baseball has a lot of busts, and the Rays have avoided them for the most part.

Hey now, NASCAR's got BBQ, women, beer and horsepower what's golf got?

If the driver actually did something "athletic" other than sit in a car and drive, I may consider it. Their pit-crews are more athletic than they are.

Golf actually requires some athletic talent.

20 inning game last night. We had several innings of position players throwing 70 mile an hour fastballs, and still only lost by one to the Mets, who were using the previous night's starter.

Lots of fun to watch. Disappointing result, but still a cool thing that happened.

And when was the last time you drove between 140 and 200 mph for hours on end trading paint with a couple dozen other cars in a cockpit with temps around 110 degrees?

Golf requires 10 seconds of hand eye coordination for each hole and face it, when was the last time a golfer hit the wall in turn four?
