And when was the last time you drove between 140 and 200 mph for hours on end trading paint with a couple dozen other cars in a cockpit with temps around 110 degrees?

I see no athleticism required in that at all. YAY 50 year olds can do it. I work with hardcore NASCAR people, I can talk some NASCAR with them, but getting me to see it as a sport will not happen any time soon. They have tried to change my ways, but I do not see it happening.

Hey now, NASCAR's got BBQ, women, beer and horsepower what's golf got?

Balls.

All NASCAR guys have are skinny little oil-stained dipsticks, while golfers have putters so potent the best can sink it and score from 40 feet away while people politely clap in awe and admiration.

There are worse teams to emulate than the Rays, at least recently. Sure, for years I called them a disgrace to baseball, and they were. However, they've drafted smart* and got ownership who actually cares. Now they're reaping the benefits and are the 2nd best team in the AL.

Although their atrocity for a stadium needs to be burnt to the ground. I don't like the Rays one bit, but a lot of that hate stems from Tropicana "Field". What a joke.

*yes, it's easy to draft smart when you're picking #1 every year. But baseball has a lot of busts, and the Rays have avoided them for the most part.
Yeah, I mean they are the model of the success they are aiming for. The Rays and the '07 Rockies. Rather than get a few good experienced players to use as cornerstones and build around them, it's trade and draft to get the youngest and cheapest talent available. It can work great, but I don't think our management can do that.

What, exactly is wrong with gay games? Do you have a problem with gay people, Blackjack200? Do you feel that they are inferior? Do you feel that gays who play sports should be mocked? What is it, Blackjack200, what is it that made you post what you did? Was it bigotry? I think it was. I think it was.

Reminds me of when you talk about fat people.

If you're still watching baseball, then you still have a ways to go, friend. Baseball is second only to soccer as the most boring sport in the history of the universe. Everyone knows this.

Soccer is better than baseball because it never lasts longer than a couple minutes over 2 hours. It has two 45 minute halves with no stops in the action, a 30 minute half time, plus a couple minutes stoppage time. Baseball can last forever, and you're always stopping to change innings, to bring in a reliever, etc. Baseball is more waiting than action.

Golf requires 10 seconds of hand eye coordination for each hole and face it, when was the last time a golfer hit the wall in turn four?

Nobody will ever convince me that NASCAR is a sport. I'll believe in God before I buy that crap.

I've been a Twins fan my whole life and this year is just plain exciting. Losing Nathan sucks, but man can this team hit.

I'm trying to keep my heart from being broken again but here you go bringing in hope.

Yeah, that would be cool actually to go to a game with another real Padres fan. Homerboy can actually attest to me being a non-serial killer as I met him during his trip to SoCal.

Except we haven't heard from Homerboy in a while.....

Why do you ask? I think once I move to San Diego i will, but for now i'll stick with the Braves
I was implying that it's easier to get excited about going to the dentist than to get excited about a "rebuilding" baseball team.

You're nuts. I hate the dentist

I loved the Padres sucking when I was in SD. Dollar hot dog and sodas for the month of July? OK! 5 dollar games? OK!

I've always had trouble trying to watch National League games. They're just not as fun as American League games. Not sure what it is.

Yeah, it's nice going with someone who at least wants to learn about the game but I'd rather go alone than with people who complain that the game is almost over and no one has scored any points.

Peavy on the mound was always a good enough reason to go to the park or watch the game, especially when you're expecting a pitcher's duel. I wish I could have gone to those match ups against Clemens when he was an Astro a few years ago.

But, that's the beauty of baseball, it's accessible to everyone. You get to answer their questions, get caught up with the crowd, drink beer and eat hotdogs. Hell, most people think baseball is boring because they've only seen it on tv. the ballpark is a whole 'nuther thing.

I don't think that's so much about baseball as it is *any* sport is interesting live. I have never been to a live sporting event that didn't hold my attention, even games that I strongly dislike watching on TV (namely baseball and basketball). I can justify going to the ballpark as an opportunity to sit out on a (hopefully beautiful) summer evening with my friends drinking beer.

I still think it's boring. There is just way too much wasted time per game and the time investment to actually follow 6-7 games a week is too much to even fathom. They need to speed up play (apparently the commish is pushing for that finally) and play less frequently. Christmas would not be fun if it happened 162+ days a year (not counting spring training exhibitions and post season).

It's the middle of April and usually by now I'm pretty fired up about the new season baseball season. My team has been the Padres for almost 20 years but I can't even fool myself into thinking they'll get to .500 this year. I've been doing fantasy baseball the past few years but it sucked so much time that I convinced myself not to do it this year. It really did make me want to stay up to date but without it, I have no incentive to see what's going on.

Oh well. I guess I know how the people who think baseball is boring feel (which probably is a majority here).

Been the opposite for me. I pretty much quit baseball in 1994 when they went on strike and cancelled the World Series but I find myself paying more attention to it despite myself this year. Especially ironic since my team is doing horribly early on.

For me it's because the pitchers have to hit. I understand that it's "tradition", but to me it's stupid. It's basically a free out for the opposing team every time one comes to the plate. Pitchers have one job - to pitch.

What's even more frustrating is the fact that the National League is one of the last places that force the pitcher to hit. Every level of baseball now uses a DH.
