I'm down on GNVC and RMBS... only green in my portfolio is from BRK.B

Heh I think I've lost like $10k in RMBS so far, a lot in options. Just epic losses from continued trial delays and beans movement from settlements. I got caught up in all the excitement... and would keep buying 'on the lows' b/c $50 was always just around the corner. It has been an expensive lesson. I'd be happy to break even and gfto now, lol.

From experience I have learnt that buying RMBS shares is several times better than buying the RMBS options. I made gains everytime I bought the shares and losses everytime I bought RMBS options.

So I've decided to take a break from the stock market for a little while. I made some nice money last year during the run from March -> November, but my trading skills are no where near advanced enough to trade in this type of market, and I've only lost money since. I thought I'd do OK on RMBS, but that didn't work out either.

I've got some debt still left, and frankly at this point, I'll make better returns paying that down than I will trying to play the ups/downs just to make a few bucks and perhaps "hit a big one". In any event, perhaps I'll come back and play when things get a bit funky again.

not a bad idea, I am seriously thinking about cashing out some money and enter the WSOP main event 2010.

Heh, yep. Me too. I have some options purchased in anticipation of trial results and those are my big losses. Can't really convert them to shares or anything useful now though unless something awesome happens.

I only had $100 cash in my account since I'm tied up elsewhere but I bought some GNVC @ 1.79. A measly 55 shares but it's a start.

So, with a $10 commison to buy and sell, yo uneed to make 20% on the stock jsut to break even?

Correct. For me not all stocks are about making money now but learning. If I lose $5 but would have made $300 if I put $2k in then that's a win in my book. I don't have enough money to risk $2k on those kinds of stocks right now (tied up in F, RMBS, ESLR, WFR) but eventually I will.

Things are getting more interesting...GenVec, Inc. submitted an application under Rule 24b-2 requesting confidential treatment for the identity of the buyer(s) of the 14mil shares and warrants.
some people are speculating that the buyer is Bill and Melinda Gates foundation. you know Genvec is a vaccines company after all, and has a malaria vaccine in its pipeline.

Weird. I don't think it changes anything though, we would still just have a buyer right?

so this CT app is for the Form 8-K filed on January 19, 2010, which was the deal with Novartis. so something in that deal between gnvc and Novartis, they don't want something to release to the public. so maybe the buyer of the 14mil shares is Novartis? The plot thickens..whatever it is, hold on to your shares, don't sell 'em too cheaply!

Ugh. Look at SIRI. I held 15,000 shares from .05/share up to .72/share. I would have had a decent amount more if I had held =(

In any event, bought a very small amount of CSCO puts tonight just to see what happens with earnings this evening.

As a cisco employee with absolutely no knowledge of financials (I'm a code monkey ) I'm banking on them having some good economic data! My shares could really use a couple bucks before I sell this month!

I'm still kicking myself for not offloading when they hit 25 a couple weeks ago, as that was my target goal. Greed ftl.
