NVLT.OB,Novelos Therapeutics Pivotal Phase 3 Lung Cancer Trial Does Not Meet the Primary Survival Endpoint...calling dead cat bounce guy....

I wonder if this is the reason GNVC is selling down today. Fear of what could happen to the stock if similar type results are published for TNFerade.

I think it's 1 day prior to the ex-div date, not 2.

if it's ex-div today, which means 'without div', the stock should open at last night close minus the div amount this morning. In order to get the div, you'll have to be a shareholder as of last night. One can sell the stock today and will still get the div.

I am sure it has something to do with it, both stories might look similar, but they are totally different, hopefully GNVC's outcome might be different too.

GNVC is selling down because day traders are trying make their 5% gains. Nothing more or less. The resistance is around 2.40-2.50 and the only people selling are the day traders trying to make a small profit or the major market makers trying to scare people so that they could buy back more stock at a cheaper price.

You won't see much movement until another big rumor or before the results hits in 5-6 weeks.

What's going on with RMBS these days? Doesn't seem like much...

Well, considering no news + overall tech sector downside (PALM revenue cut.. getting -20% haircut), I think it's ok.

Now, about PALM. Palm is getting serious haircut hitting March-low. Will you buy at this level, or wait for the entry lower? I agree there are lots of competition that is the strongest ever, but not much reason that it goes to this low. What you guys think?

Problem with JPM is that theyve got lots of ties to the govt so if they get into trouble, theyll get bailed out, much like GS. If you want to go against finance, id go with someone that doesnt have as strong of ties to the govt.

They also have a whole brokerage arm that can manipulate their stock price too. does that mean one should not buy their stocks then? I don't think they will need a govt bailout, the stock will need to drop a lot for that to happen. I just think the price will trade around mid 30's short term, hopefully by March 19, we will see.

What's with everyone here and RMBS? There are better stocks out there.

Because a lot of people here have invested heavily in RMBS over the last year plus. A lot of that investment has taken place because of comments made in this thread.

You have to assume that a stock that has been talked about in depth in this very thread for multiple years would have a lot of people interested in it.

What are the better stocks out there that you suggest? I haven't seen many suggestions from you on here. There are multiple people who recommend on here but I would say the main players are Azurik, richardycc, and jjsole. Thats why everyone here is into RMBS. They listened to Azuriks recommendation, did their own due dilligence and decided it was a good investment. Simple as that.

I don't give investment advice.

I personally would not be "investing" in technology related stocks. The PE ratios on most all tech stocks are usually way out of wack, furthermore the long term future of these sort of stocks is nearly impossible to predict. Trading is another story though.

Investing should, in my personal opinion, be done only on the principal of value investing looking for solid businesses with a long history of cash flow and easily predictable businesses.

Stock buybacks are usually good for a quick pop, but in actuality it just means the company has no investment opportunities for growth above its WACC. RAMBUS buying shares back is exactly equivalent to paying a dividend. All this is, is a way to distribute some of the cash from the settlement to shareholders it is in no way a positive growth wise.

Look for multiple contraction after the buyback but shares to do nothing.

Something else other than Rambus for the Tech and Lawsuit loving masses..... =)

VHC

Company with a great portfolio of technologies, currently embroiled with Microsoft for a patent infringement lawsuit involving 3 patents and over 18 claims.

The claims extend to Microsoft's Windows and Windows Server products, including 7 and 2008.

VHC has moved for summary judgment in an effort to summarily defeat, before trial, a few of MSFT's important defenses. Jury trial scheduled for March 8th.

A lot of people say this is a $50-60 stock in the making, but I would peg it at ~$20 myself.* It's a bit risky as it's trading at 52 week highs due to this lawsuit.

Disclosure: long 500 shares. Would have more but a lot of $$ stuck in GNVC. =)

* assuming a settlement.

Nice call. Thanks. I don't see how MS can wiggle out of this one.

The low volume in VHC scares me though...

If their patents hold up against Microsoft, and all indications are they will, then future volume will not be a problem. They already have a letter of intent for collaboration with Verisign. That's a pretty good vote of confidence.

Interesting... I did some more DD on it, and it looks better and better. My buy didn't go through though. It finished very strong.
