I wonder how this bodes for the 184th data expected later this month?

I am kinda puzzled by the timing of today's news...Genvec is usually very lowkey, looks like they paid to get this news out. They even quoted the senior VP in the news, so they did spend some time to put this news together, not a quickie PR job. The fact that I can't even find this study, so I don't think it's even widely available to the public yet. I can think of a few more exciting news that Genvec didn't bother to release anything, and yet they did this for a preclinical study.

They did hire a new PR firm awhile back, so maybe they are just doing their job. Proceed with caution, don't gamble more than you can afford to lose.

on the other hand, I bought more jpm puts to avg down today.

oh yeah, good news from DNDN tonight, so that should help all cancer related stocks tomorrow.

Would be nice to tell us when you decided to jump in yourself so we could have done the same, assuming DD is satisfied. =P

I did a long time ago. People are not interested in them because they sound boring and don't have the same ring to it that Rambus has?

Search the forums for ACF, ESRX, COV, TEVA, GILD, JNJ.
GILD : http://forums.anandtech.com/search.php?searchid=148884
ESRX: http://forums.anandtech.com/search.php?searchid=148890
TEVA: http://forums.anandtech.com/search.php?searchid=148899
ACF: http://forums.anandtech.com/search.php?searchid=148900
COV: http://forums.anandtech.com/search.php?searchid=148908
JNJ: http://forums.anandtech.com/search.php?searchid=148893
MR: http://forums.anandtech.com/search.php?searchid=148901 (The stock symbol "MR" is a generic term and is giving errors. A search for "Mindray" brings up 2 posts, but I know I've posted about it more than twice)

Besides IHateMyJob2004 who's also recommended JNJ, I'm the only one who's ever mentioned any of those other stocks here.
I've had GILD for ~6 years if not 7 now, ACF I recommended here exactly 2 years ago and bought all the way through. Teva I bought ~3 years ago and recommended it. In fact, I've recommended all those stocks if you click my post history links above.

I took a backseat and haven't contributed in a while because people here are busy pumping up Rambus, and useless penny stocks that make little business sense.

This thread should really be named "***Official*** Rambus Stock thread" since 90% of the discussion so far is about Rambus.

I'm liking TEVA. It will either go higher or split. Historically, they have split when it gets to about 60, but obviously this market is a lot different than how it was a few years back.

Hopefully VHC pans out for us.

Stock splitting is irrelevant for me when it comes to investment decisions.
I don't care if a company does a split or not, and I'm not quite sure why anyone would care either.

I only jumped in here a few months ago so I missed those picks.

I would love to hear what everyone is looking at to buy and why for today as I need to diversify a bit. Not to mention I will be adding to my ROTH soon, so I'll have some extra $$ to invest.

I hope you like my VHC pick, I do agree that Rambus have been getting way too much forum space.

Obviously it's because I recommended it That and it's been one of the most exciting stories to follow in the corporate world and the most volitile stock.

Having said that, Rambus is going to be taking a backburner for a while. The settlement with Samsung and Nvidia losing to Rambus at the ITC has caused delays in the AT trial along with Nvidia settlement discussions. All eyes, and I mean ALL EYES are on the Court of Appeals, Federal Circuit (CAFC). The CAFC will decide which spoilation ruling was right. Judge Whyte or Judge Robinson. All companies (including RMBS) have been willing to delay a lot of arguments pending the outcome of this joint appeal. It could spell mass settlements or a long saga (as if it's not already).

So sorry I haven't been participatingin the boards as much. My only major investments now is TSRA, and DNDN that I bought back in at $29 - I think by May it's either a $50+ stock or it crashes. Check the call/put premiums for May, wowzers!

I've read all I need to know about your pick. I don't even need to waste my time looking at their income statement, cash flow, or balance sheet. Waste of my time. Here's why.

VirnetX Holding Corporation is a development-stage company focused on commercializing a patent portfolio for providing solutions for secure real-time communications such as instant messaging (IM), and voice-over Internet protocol (VoIP). These patents were acquired by the Company’s principal operating subsidiary, VirnetX, from Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). SAIC is a scientific, engineering, and technology applications company. The Company’s principal business activities are its efforts to commercialize its patent portfolio. It also conducts the remaining activities of PASW, Inc., which are generally limited to the collection of royalties on certain Internet-based communications by a wholly owned Japanese subsidiary of PASW pursuant to the terms of a single license agreement. The revenue generated by this agreement is not significant.

I wasn't stating that as a reason to invest. I was just saying that is historically what happens.

So you don't think the lawsuit is valid at all? In my opinion, they stand to gain a bit from it.

They do have a deal with Verisign that was recently publicized.

Just because they don't have something out for consumption doesn't mean that they are not valuable. If you take that stance, might as well rule out all pharmas w/o any current commercial offerings.

investment is a funny thing. some people will only stick with companies with strong balance sheets, some will only buy penny stocks, you have all kinds in between. Like one of my coworkers, he'd only invest in risky borderline scammy .OB or pink sheets. I tried to talk him into GNVC when it was back down to ~$1.70, of course he didn't listen. I love undervalued stocks, turnaround stories, bottom fisher type of stocks, that's why I love under $5 stocks. I could probably do ok if I just put my money in BRK.A and forget about it for years, but that's just not my style.

I don't care if a company does a split or not, and I'm not quite sure why anyone would care either.

Stocks that split have shown through studies to outperform in the 6-12 months after the split with little long term correlation to higher returns. Possibly worth a buy for a short term pop though on a split.

I know there are other factors for BRK.B's rise but I seriously considered it at ~ 67 after the split. I'm still kicking myself for that and missing on VMI at ~ 67 as well.

Day traders:

I have scottrade and I am novice at day trading. I need advice. What tutorials are out there, or site that demostrate the basic introduction/lingo that is involved in this business.. I dont understand how to be fully prepared to make a formal buy/sell decision because I have lost quite a bit of money and gain quite a bit of money through just impulse.

How did you guys get started and started educating yourself about functions of day trading/

Hmm RMBS on the move due to news? Anyone have the scoop on that?

Yes, the United States Patent Trademark Office sent a finalized ruling that Rambus' patents in graphic controllers are valid.

If you recall a little over a month ago, Rambus proved that Nvidia's graphics cards infringed on their patents at the International Trade Commission (ITC).

This shuts the door on Nvidia on appeal. They lost in court and now our patent office is saying Rambus' patents are valid.

I don't know how long this will take, but Rambus can now pursue everyone making graphics and charge 2% on controllers (the graphic controller market is around $20 billion).

Thanks for the info. It'll be interesting to see if this would encourage more settlements from the defendants.

I would definitely like to hear your feedback here, and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone. My investment strategy is a long-term one (more small cap values, but still long term buy and holds) and it would be interesting to hear your opinion as it seems you have something to contribute.

No doubt the more speculative stocks will garner more interest here, but there is plenty of room for all types of stock discussions. Any and all knowledge I welcome with open arms, and I think the other members feel the same.
