After a lockout-shortened season where teams saw multiple B2B2B's and other crazy scheduling, we've arrived at that time of the year - the NBA playoffs will begin this weekend! I'll update the brackets every morning, but for now I'll list the top 8 teams in each conference. Feel free to make your predictions!

NBA Finals
(2) Oklahoma City vs. (2) Miami

It looks pretty clear cut to me....

Thunder - Heat Finals. Heat overall.

Only others to me would be Pops pulling a rabbit out of his hat and getting one final push out his big three and San Antonio taking it in the west and then Chicago taking Miami in the ECF's. In that case I'd take Chicago overall.

As clear cut as the mavs/lakers missing the playoffs?():whiste:

Thunder? Yeah right, especially with Harden potentially missing some 1st round games.

I put the Spurs in the Finals for the West, but as for the East - I can see 4 possible teams going.

Eh, Dallas barely made it in and has more losses than any other playoff team in the west. It wasn't *that* bad of a prediction.

LA was a surprise to me. I really didn't expect them to have a record any better than Dallas.

I have to admit I haven't watched the spurs much besides the games with the mavs. I would put the Thunder ahead of them though only because the Thunder's stars are in their prime. Spurs while a solid all around team depend on a lot of lower tier guys and aging stars. Not 100% sold on the fact that the spurs young guys can step it up in crunch time or that Tim or Ginobili have enough left to turn on the switch. I know the Thunder guys can.

Also don't count out the Lakers for the west. With adding Sessions they really don't have many weaknesses and have just a potent 3 star lineup (Gasol, Bynum, Kobe) as anyone including Miami and Thunder (Ebaka, Westbrook, Durant).

Spurs record against the playoffs teams out West:

OKC - 2-1
Dallas - 2-2
Lakers - 2-1
Clippers - 2-1
Memphis - 4-0
Denver - 2-1
Phoenix - 3-0 (1 game remaining)
Utah - 3-1

Borrowing some other stats from a guy on SpursTalk:

Speaking of streaking, since the trade deadline, the Spurs are a ridiculous 19-3. No other team has won more than 16 games in that span and no other team has lost fewer than 6. The Spurs are fully 3 games better than anyone else in the league just since March 15.

Since the bench's moral victory in overtime in Dallas on January 29, the Spurs are 35-7. No other team has won more than 31 games in that span (both Miami and Chicago have won 31 and OKC has won 30) and no other team has lost fewer than 11 games.

They have the best home record in the league, and a 20-5 road streak after going 0-6. Their point differential has only gone up, and they've beat their opponents in the last 5 games by over 18 points on average.

This isn't the same team as last year - anyone that tries to compare them is quite frankly, stupid.

OKC all the way! Hopefully the Knicks give Miami a run for their money.

Probably won't have much of a challenge until the second round if they get the Pacers. I would like to see them matched up against the Hawks though, since Atlanta gives them fits for some reason.

Sessions has to be one of the best pickups I've seen in a while. That guy was unheard of before he became "The guy LA punted Fisher for". He came on board and just changed that team almost entirely. He's a legitmate 3 point threat that Fisher wasn't. He's fast when Fisher wasn't. He has the old guys telling him to slow down the breaks because they can't get down court as fast as him

Just an awesome aquisition by LA. LA is dangerous. But I just don't see them have the depth and discipline to go the distance.

TBH, Sessions was a well known player before joining the Lakers. The year he signed with the T-pups, he was pursued by quite a few teams. He's a great fit for the Lakers though - was pretty pissed when they got him. Him and Bynum will give the Lakers something to build around when Bryant and Gasol retire.

I will root for the Suns just because I've always liked those guys but I'm pretty sure they're not really getting anywhere for a few years.

long as the Heat don't win it I'll be happy. I'd like to see the Bulls get it.

I'm a magic fan and I know we won't go deep lol

Hope the Nuggets get the Lakers as I think we can take them, although we won't make it past the 2nd round regardless.

Especially now that Meta World i love you will be suspended for the first round

The Lakers shocked me this compressed season. Well, they didn't shock me as much as Kobe and Bynum's health in light of the schedule shocked me. If Bynum had a normal year he would have missed 35 games and the Lakers would be battling the Suns for the final spot.

Now that the Lakers are seeded well and healthy, two things I did not envision, they can make a WCF run. If they get some officiating breaks they can make one last Finals run.

Not that I want any of that to happen.

Updated. 76ers locked in 8th place in the East with tonight's win, even though the Bucks won also. The Spurs also locked up #1 in the West, but it looks like Gary Neal went down and didn't even return to the bench with the trainer. That's all for the evening, Tuesday has some great match-ups between the Clippers @Atlanta, Miami @Boston and Phoenix @Utah. The last match-up has the most potential - if Phoenix loses, they will be out but a win will make the game on Wednesday against San Antonio even more interesting.

Expect teams to start sitting their players, it appears the Brooklyn Nets already have!

IF the Celtics can make it past the Bulls in the second round, they will beat Miami. Calling it now.

Pretty much the largest "upset" that is being considered by everyone would be the Knicks over the Heat. Not sure that I agree it will happen, though.

The more I look at the West matchups/seedings the more I see the Spurs making the Western Conference Finals. The way it's currently seeded is just going to be a slugfest in the bottom 4 teams.

http://www.breathingfire.com/nba/playoffs/2012/bracket2012.php

Realistically, 3 out of those 4 teams could make a push for a conference championship. Denver is the only one that I think is an obvious first round exit. Any of the other three could make it through. I see a very long, hard fought couple series in that grouping of teams.

The Spurs are so far ahead of the other three teams in their's in terms of discipline, team play and coaching. I just see them breezing through fairly easily.

In the east, Bulls vs. Heat. There just really isn't any other competition there. Boston and Indy will win a few games, but Boston isn't as talented(any more) as Miami or have the bench depth of Chicago. Indy is scrappy and tough, but they aren't getting through Miami. Miami got the worse draw over Chicago. Knicks have talent but they are just too inconsistent to be really dangerous. They'll win one or two at home. Indy will be the bigger challenge and be pesky and annoying to Miami. No serious threat to win, but will draw out a series longer than it needs to be.

Chicago should roll Philly. Knock out Boston in 6, and then have a few days rest waiting for Miami to finish vs. Indy.

No clue on the ECF. I see it going 7 games with Miami ultimately being the winners. But who knows. Rose is definitely not on his game, I'd say he's barely running at 70%. Everyone else is playing much better than last year though. Is that enough to hold off Miami? Don't know.

I do know that I love the NBA playoffs.

I can't call the OKC Dallas series. I know by the eyeball test the mavs just aren't a good team. But I'm really not sure how much stock I put into the mavs regular season considering the compressed schedule, the amount of injuries, and veterans just trying to get to the playoffs instead of going balls out for a top seed.
