I don't know about that...

Unbalanced schedules and 3-tiers of playoffs have lessened the drive to win every game possible. We see teams pull off of games where extra effort might be necessary to win because it's less likely that one game will make the difference.
look at the twins the last few years. had to have 1 game playoffs to settle things. i think that is good for the game. i hope he doesn't expand them anymore though like is being talked about. season is too long now

Will the Yankees hit 300 homers this season?

I fucking hope not. I'd rather see them learn to score runs.

They're hitting like .100 with RISP.

And, God damnit, someone needs to fire their hitting coach and scouts. The past three years have been ABYSMAL against pitchers they've never seen before. Humber taking a no-hitter into the 7th? Are you fucking kidding me? There's no excuse for that other than that the hitting coach and scouts didn't properly prepare the hitters. The guy was 1-2 with a >4.5 ERA. His 2-seam sinking fastball was pretty good, but come on.

I mean, seriously, Cano (who's an absolutely aweful clutch hitter anyway) swung at two of the first three pitches he saw from the guy and made two outs. That's not proper hitting. The Yankees should have absolutely destroyed the White Sox last night and instead they bombed to a team that was lost 10 of its last 11 games.

Mets keep on rolling.

Brent Lillibridge saves the game for the White Sox against the Yanks with two fine plays in the bottom of the 9th.

I attribute some of that to a veteran team that relies more on their knowledge and history with pitchers. They may not be preparing enough for those they haven't seen before.

Seriously, how the fuck many more games is Soriano going to have to lose before Girardi stops using him? Hughes, the Golden Boy of the Yankees, only lost 3 before he was benched (I don't think anyone actually believes he's injured). Soriano's blown like 5 leads so far this year, and he's only pitched 11 times.

I realize the Yankees overpaid him, but that doesn't mean you have to let him torpedo your season.

Seriously, get that pos out of here. 8 walks, 10 hits and 9 ER in 10.1 innings is horrendous, especially for a one inning reliever that's supposed to hold the score.

He has not had a single outing since his fluke debut without putting a man on base.

He is the new Farnsworthless.

now a 6 game winning streak for the mets. umpire ripped jose reyes off with horrible call that could have cost the mets the game but they overcome that and still won

Watching my M's play in Detroit right now. So far Michael Pineda has struck out the first four batters faced today.

So far this season he is 3-1 with a 1.78 ERA, and only 21 years old. One of the few bright spots with my M's. Justin Smoak, the 1B who was the centerpiece in the Cliff Lee trade, is starting to heat up as well.

Thanks davmat.

You cannot handle our Lord Avila.

How come no one else has ever used the Lance Parrish style catchers mitt with the day glo? I still have mine around in some old box, he was one of my favorite players of the day.

Nice pitch to get Mags Ordonez looking. According to the strike zone viewer on the M's broadcast it just barely caught the lower corner. Did anyone in Detroit see their strike zone viewer of the pitch?

Gameday had it out of the zone, and in general the Fox Sports strike zone things are entirely worthless, if that's what you have out there.

Jim Joyce, ladies and gentlemen.

God, Penny is awful. This entire series has been an embarrassment. One of the worst offenses in baseball and they've scored like 22 runs...

I think that might even be giving the M's offense too much credit. Last season they were just historically heinous. D:

So frustrating to watch Felix pitch at a Cy Young level last season, and yet win only 12-13 games.

A lot of ink has been spilled already this season marveling over the fast starts of the Colorado Rockies and the Texas Rangers and the Cincinnati Reds and even KC and the Indians, but at the end of this, the twenty-fourth day of April in the year of our Lord 2011 it is the Philadelphia Phillies who alone own the very best record in all of major league baseball.

Phillies Win Pct: .687

Rockies Win Pct: .696

What was that again?

The Rockies simply don't have the pitching necessary to win. Ubaldo walking the bases loaded in the 5th inning was pathetic, especially when the other pitcher (JJ) is no-hitting your team. A number 1 pitcher should never be walking batters back to back, let alone 3 in one inning.

I wouldn't say that just yet. Ubaldo did pretty well, and if he can build on it then he will be fine. Not saying he will do what he did last season (which if the offense did anything in a few games he could have easily had 21-22 wins), but he should be fine. Chacin and DeLaRosa are doing just fine. Rogers is a minor league pitcher trying to learn to pitch in the big leagues still. He had the advantage of being new, but that is going out the door and he has to learn to pitch not throw. Hammel is doing better. He's basically our #5 starter acting as #4 since Cook is on the DL.

Just look at this:

De La Rosa W: 4 L: 0 ERA: 2.61
Chacin W: 3 L: 1 ERA: 2.67
Hammel W: 2 L: 1 ERA 3.80

All we need is Ubaldo to get things working again, which hopefully will be his next start. Then with what we have done so far, our pitching should be fine. Especially if we get Cook back and he is even just decent. He isn't in his prime anymore of course.

Our bullpen is dominating right now for the most part.

Reading comprehension, sonny boy. Or is it mastery of the calendar that you lack?
