Unless they get offered an overwhelming package of great prospects and don't have to eat any salary, I don't see this as a good move for the Mets at all.

While I'm pretty sure the Mets aren't going to reach the post-season this year, unloading Reyes would be huge morale crusher for their loyal fans.

I know Reyes can be a free agent, which is why I think the Mets should target re-signing him now, while they still have exclusive rights.

Reyes is not my favorite ballplayer due to some of his shenanigans in previous years, but he does seem to have matured, and he remains an electric talent at a key position.

For the Mets' sake, I hope they don't trade him just for salary relief and a couple of semi-stiffs in some sad surrender monkey fashion, and I'm not even a Mets fan!

The issue is that the Mets probably can't afford him given their financial woes...

I know, which is why they need to find a way to address those woes -- selling a minority stake or whatever -- right away!

Talents of Reyes caliber at his crucial position are not exactly dime a dozen, and if you follow the minors, you know that really good up the middle infielders are the rarest commodity next to elite catchers.

The same applies in the upcoming draft. It would be abject surrender for them to let him go, imho.

I'm no Mets fan but I don't like the way money concerns unfairly skew competitiveness.

The Mets have had offers from interested parties including some that want the entire team (according to local papers anyways). The Wilpons don't want to give up any control of the team which could be why a minority stake hasn't been sold yet.

As for the Mets on the field ..yikes..Little Timmy took care of them and he got better as the game went along. He's a treat to watch even if its at the expense of my poor Mets. lol Lots of Giants fans at Citi Field too and they are a vocal bunch.

Pineda is filthy, even if the Mariners suck they are a great team to follow with Felix and Pineda. And they don't even totally suck lately.

At least there is a little hope for my M's. Smoak is showing signs of coming on as well. But they have some terrible salaries, and the minor league system doesn't seem that deep or strong really. I think nowdays you need an owner who really wants to win and has a passionate front office. M's ownership are practically ghosts, they have no identity that speaks to wanting to win as long as the M's are profitable. The M's are probably just a distant toy or a source of status, nothing more than a means to an end.

In other news, did anyone see video of Upton (Tampa) go ballistic on the ump after being called out on strikes for the third time in the game? The pitch did look a little inside, but I just caught the highlight.

Nope, didn't hear about Upton, but not surprised. He got butthurt over the fans taunting him with Bossman Junior (what the BJ stands for).

You guys hear about Shin Soo Choo blowing a .20 while drunk driving? lmao
http://www.cleveland.com/tribe/index.ssf/2011/05/cleveland_indians_of_shin-soo.html

Sheffield Lake Law Director David Graves said Choo was stopped on Lake Road (Route 6) at 2:25 a.m. when a police officer saw his car weaving on the road.

"The officer smelled alcohol on the driver's breath," said Graves. "He performed a field sobriety test and was taken back to the police test. Police said he also failed a Breathalzyer test, registering a .20 [more than twice the legal limit of .08]."

Graves said Choo was released on his own recognizance after being charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The police report indicated Choo was escorted home by police.

Graves said the same officer talked to Choo a little earlier in the evening. Choo had stopped his car on Route 6 and told the officer that he was trying to find his way to his home in Avon Lake. Choo said he was having trouble with his GPS.

First Austin Kearns, now Choo. Cleveland rocks! I guess I'd be drinking too if I played for Cleveland while they're in first place. Party like it's 19, 99 (while you can).

Raulll!

He recently went 0 for 30+, the worst slump of his career. At age 39, he looked perma-cooked. In the last 3 games, though, his bat has finally come alive. He's gone 8 for 11 with two homers, two doubles, and a triple.

This is great news for the Phillies, but even better news for Raul. It couldn't happen to a nicer guy. He's the opposite of the stereotypical asshole sports egoist. He struggled for years to establish himself, and then had many fine years way out of the national media spotlight up in the Seattle.

Then, at 36, he finally landed his one big contract, started out like a man afire in his first half season with the Phillies, only to be cut down by injury.

Ibanez is the type of player this lifer baseball fan loves, like Chooch and Polly (Placido Polanco), dirt encrusted ballplayers who have scrapped and fought their way to the show, and whose talents have gone largely unnoticed by the general public, but who are the heart and soul of any good team, the necessary everyday complements to the media hogging superstars.

I'm just happy for this guy.

Is Carlos Ruiz solidifying himself again as the the league's greatest catcher, most clutch hitter, and savior of babies?

Lol, Chooch is being held out with back problems that may force him to the DL, but the awesome juggernaut that is the Philadelphia Phillies rolls on nonetheless, in no way helped by an easy early schedule.

Weird game tonight with the Braves. Cliff Lee has 13 strikeouts through just the first 6 innings, but is losing 3-0, having gotten tattooed in the 3rd.

Meanwhile, Derrick Lowe is no hitting the Phils.

He struck out the side again (granted, around two hits.) He now has struck out 16 in only 7 innings. Most pitchers go through their entire careers without striking out 16 in a game.

Yeah I can't believe he ended up with 16 Ks in just 7! He actually got everyone in their lineup at least once. So let's see, that's 28 Ks in 2 games with 0 run support so far this year. Oh well, back to watching the Flyers lose.

Lee's performance kind of reminds of when I saw Randy Johnson strike out 19 or 20 A's, but lost, lol.

Obviously he had a great game, but still allowed 9 hits

Milton Bradley was just ejected for arguing a called third strike that was well outside the zone. Second ejection for him this week too, lol. Good thing the manager came out so quickly.

I have a feeling he'll be making the national news long after his baseball career is over.

Yep, just sad to watch. Felt bad for Lee.

Josh Johnson vs. Roy Halladay. Arguably the two best starters in the National League.

Johnson has a 10 pitch first. Halladay strikes out two around a hit, but Bonifacio gets thrown out stealing.

Then the Big Piece goes yard to start off the second. Ibanez follows with a double off the wall, and Johnson then plunks Fransisco and walks Pete Orr. Bases loaded, no outs.

Yee-haw!

Ike Davis headed to NY to have his leg checked out. That probably means surgery and he's done for the season right? I blame David Wright dammit.

Mets/Rockies game rained out so that means the Rockies will sweep the doubleheader tomorrow and Tulowitzki will hit 4 more homers. <sigh>

..so how 'bout them Indians.
