As a Red Sox fan, I'm kind of glad they lost as they didn't deserve it. But not to the Rays, as they won to an empty park. Pathetic. They probably won't even sell out any of the playoff games except by the visiting team's fans.

Yea, I gotta agree with this too, Rays fans are some of the worst sports fans I've ever seen. The Orioles, after losing 15 straight seasons, still seem to fill their stadium more than the Rays, even in the middle of a playoff hunt. They definitely don't deserve the team they have.

Did you see Turner Field? Talk about the 90's all you want, but if you can't support your team now don't reminisce about the past.

That is hardly the Rays fault. They have been a good team for a while now that has been exciting to watch.

Florida just fucking sucks.

I know. TB doesn't deserve them. Seeing all of those empty seats behind plate during the most important game of the year made me sad.

My old boss used to fly down annually to TB to catch a Red Sox - Rays series b/c it was cheaper and they could just walk up to the ticket booth and get seats.

It's not the Rays' fault. The biggest problem is the economy and it hit the Tampa area particularly hard. And it's not just the Rays. They can't sell out a Bucs football game in this area either. The Bucs game was the only NFL game blacked out on opening day and they may not sellout for the upcoming Monday night game against the Colts, though they are only a couple of thousand tickets short.

There are a bunch of brokeass mofos in this town.

This has to be one of the most magical nights in baseball, Wild Card Wednesday 2011. Let's just recap some of this craziness:

StL/Houston: Chris Carpenter pitches a magnificent 2 hit shutout to ensure that his team, the one with the most blown saves, never gets a chance to get to the bullpen to mess it up.

AtL/Philly: Atlanta's vaunted bullpen (yet way overworked innings wise) blows the lead to the Phillies late and then goes on to lose the game, and as a result gives rival Philly its best record in history, 102 wins, and completes the collapse.

Baltimore/Boston: Papsmear Papelbon has the O's down to their last strike with 2 outs, no men on, and throwing 96mph laser beams until #8 batter Chris Davis doubles into the right field corner. Pinch hitter Nolan Reimold meekly swings and misses at the first two strikes - 96mph as well. Papelbon then throws another fastball right down the heart of the plate which Reimold mashes into the corner for a double to score Davis. Papsmear then throws another down the middle to leadoff hitter Andino who hits a rope to left which Crawford slides and can't handle, Reimold scores to walkoff and absolutely stun the Red Sox who were up 9.5 games on the Rays on Sept 2nd.

Tampa/New York Yankees game: The Yankees are up 7-0 going into the bottom of the 8th and the game is all but over. The Rays scratch and claw to get 3 back, and then still in the bottom of the 8th, Longoria crushes a 3 run HR to make it 7-6! Fast forward to the bottom of the ninth, 2 outs, 2 strikes, Dan Johnson hits a HR to tie the freaking game - only his 2nd of the year. Then in the top of the 12th, the Yankees have 1st and 3rd no outs. Posada hits it right down the line where Longoria fields it and proceeds to tag Golson out who strayed too far from third base. Yes, amazing luck, and they get out of the inning. Bottom of the 12th, literally three minutes after the O's walk off on Boston, Longoria hits the game winner. The night before, the Rays get out of the inning with a triple play. Is this not a team of destiny or what??

Bud Selig, if this doesn't scream 2nd wild card then I don't know what will. Magical night we just saw folks.

I know everyone loves to rip on Tampa and their fans but people need to realize the makeup of Florida. Most people didn't grow up there, and if they did they grew up cheering for other teams because there wasn't a baseball team here. I wish the locals would support the team better though.

I'm a transplant here as well and my home team is still my favorite. I do go to Ray's games though and cheer for them. The stadium blows chunks though, they really should build a new one.

It was a painful ending to a miserable season.

However, it was easily the best last day of the regular season ever.

I'm still coming down off the high of today's games, even after walking the half-mile home from the local bar. Best bar baseball night in a long time.

Hope the intensity continues through the playoffs - awesome.

so glad espn showed boring ass braves-phils game, then dumbass bosox game (though I love the collapse), and we get to see nothing but the final play of Epic TB comeback win.

meh, at least the 2 teams I wanted are in.

Er...not sure it's really an "epic" comeback when the runs are scored against Boone Logan and the win is against Scott Proctor...I mean, he's lost 6 of the 39 games he's pitched in and his WHIP is over 2.

The yanks put him in when they don't care about the outcome and want the game over quick. This is, what, the second extra innings game he's lost for them in the last week?

Still, I'd rather see the Rays win the WC than the Sox.

I've gotta deal with those annoying assholes invading Camden Yards every year, couldn't have happened to a nicer group.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer closer either. Papelbon is an arrogant ass. I'm sooo glad he blew the last save of his contract.

Bud Selig, if this doesn't scream 2nd wild card then I don't know what will. Magical night we just saw folks.

Fuck that. "Second wild card" means that this whole last week wouldn't have happened because both the Sox and the Rays would have been working on resting for Game 163, as would the Cards and Braves.

Let the teams with the best records into the playoffs. We don't need 4 levels of playoffs and we don't need 40% of teams going to the playoffs. This isn't the fucking NBA, and I'll definitely respect the sport a lot less if they try to become like the NBA where the playoffs last longer than the regular season and half the teams make it.

If anything, this last week has screamed "WE DON'T NEED A SECOND WILDCARD".

And we certainly don't need his proposed "no divisions" setup either. There's already too many interleague games. Worst abortion of an idea ever. I don't give a shit if he wants to try to create rivalries...you can't create a rivalry. Rivalries create themselves. Leave well enough alone. It's not even been 20 years on the current setup.

Oh god. My eyes are about to fucking pass out from rollin 12 G's here.

The Red Sox lost every game they possibly could, as the Rays climbed the ladder in September and because they lost a few games towards the end they "didn't deserve it"? Shut. The. Fuck. Up. We just took 3 out of 4 from you scrublords IN BOSTON.

If you don't recall... they Rays, that team that made the playoffs... was down 7-0... then tied it up with two outs and two strikes in the bottom of the ninth, WITH A PINCH HIT ROCKET HOME RUN... one of the most clutch hits I've EVER seen all things taken into account. Then they go extras and nearly lose the lead letting the yanks get 1st and 3rd with no out yet manage to get out of it. Literally minutes after the Orioles magically fucked papelbon in the mouth, the Rays won. ORIOLES MAGIC.

Please moran. Orioles magic? Yeah, that's the WS for you guys in the last 30+ years. The Rays played against AAA pitching tonight and had David Price pitching. And if you had a brain, I said they didn't deserve it due to having the worst fans in the game.

Not sure what's worse for you, being a Orioles fan and having one of the worst owners in the game or living in Seattle and dealing with the pathetic Mariners.

Just got home from that epic comeback win by the Rays. Things looked really miserable after five innings, but that team doesn't give up.

All I gotta say is:

Give me a fucking break. Nowhere has the economy been worse than Detroit, and 2.6+ million fans still came to see the Tigers this year. Terrible excuse.

while some are worse than others....dolphins, jaguars, bucs, panthers, lightning, rays, marlins, magic, heat, ALL florida pro sports teams have traditionally poor attendance... because the rest of the country has crappy fall/winter weather already... it is still summer for the next 6 months in sunny florida... no-one has the time to spend it at a pro-sports game of any kind.
