You saw Clemente in person, showing off his amazing gun no less! Very lucky, he really was one of a kind, hell look at how he died: plane crash while doing charity work. Dave Parker had a hell of an arm too, did he and Clemente ever share outfield duties? I'm guessing probably not, Parker played for the Pirates after the Reds?

Dave Parker was a Pirate looong before he ever played for the Reds. I don't believe he and Clemente's careers crossed paths. Parker had an arm, many others have as well, but Clemente's was the best I ever saw. The thing about Clemente is that he did everything, every aspect of fielding and hitting and running the bases, with an unwordly grace at an amazing level.

He was also star-crossed. The press and people of the Pittsburgh of his era were reflexively and unconsciously racist, and treated him like a maroon for years. Also, he played a lot of his career with a severe back injury, which is just unbelievable!

He died on that charity mission with exactly 3,000 hits, and with his skills seemingly undiminished!

The only thing he didn't do at a jaw dropping level was hit home runs, and this may have been in large part because of his back injury!

As a Phillies fan, I remember the year, 1966 or 1967, when he and our own Tony Gonzalez battled down the stretch for the batting title, each just throwing up multi-hit game after multi-hit game. Of course, Clemente won.

As a complete player (non-pitcher category) in that era, I would put Clemente and Mays in a class of their own.

Hmm, I'd have to think hard to remember all the ones I was there live for.

Buehrle's flip to first to win play of the year on opening day last year.

Game 163 victory against the twinkies

Man was that an incredible play. One of my other favorite plays was in his perfect game that catch made by DeWayne Wise. Lets go to the video.

note: keep watching after to see a great over the shoulder grab by Austin Jackson to preserve Galarraga's 28-out perfect game.

Fixed!

I don't think Boston is freaking out just yet. Tampa, however, just might not be what it used to be.

Tampa's certainly not what it used to be.

But, hey, at least I called today's game: 12 ER between the two starters. Ick.

In re: The continuing problem of having to put up with the ceaseless, mindless, endlessly irritating blather of national network announcers when watching your team on a network hosted game, I have two questions:

1. Is there a way to lure them into attempting to steal your car?

2. May you then, in good conscience, shoot them?

I usually go with the mute and listen to the radio audio, otherwise I would stab Joe Buck regardless of whether or not he stole my car.

I don't hate joe buck, but I do the same ting. For me: It's not that he's bad (in terms of noticing what's happening, describing it) he's just sooo borring. Radio calls are so much better (Except for being like 2 seconds ahead of my TV)

Nice to see Hamels having a great outing today (so far) after coming off maybe the worst game (inning?) he's ever played.

No chit! That inning was . . . disturbing. Let us never speak of it again. :awe:

Fantastic pitching from the Phils, great starter, reliever, and closer. Nice to see.

Great game all around. So far this season, Contreras, Madson, Romero and Bastardo have been lock-down superb.

And LOL at Martinez playing an "It's Ryan Howard at the plate", short right field 2B in the ninth and having it turn out to be perfect positioning for the last two outs! :awe:

Oye, watched the shelling of the Red Sox on tv at sports clips. Frustrated with mlb.com's blackout rules. I'd totally subscribe to the service otherwise. No way I'm paying comcast $65 a month just to watch the White Sox.

You don't have cable TV? Just wondering what your issue with the blackout rule is? I can't say I'm a huge fan either, as I'd much rather watch my local feed than the national coverage, but at least I can still listen to my local audio even during a TV blackout. Last weekend my Phillies game wasn't on the air because Fox was showing the NYY/BOS game instead, but like I said, at least I got local audio so I could listen to the radio broadcast. Not too bad really.

Daaam mlb.tv is really rocking this year. Last couple years it sucked and I canceled for a refund.

This year though, have it in the living room on my ps3, bedroom with Samsung WiFi blu-ray player, and the game room with Samsung tv built in widget.

3 dvrs for baseball without paying rental fees for 3 boxes from FIOS, and its cheaper than xtra innings.

Only thing that sucks is I hear it blows on smartphones. Oh well, hopefully when I upgrade during next season, that too will be handled.

Nope, no cable. And I can't watch on the computer through mlb.com because they black it out (because I'm supposed to watch on cable). What a crock of shit.
