RMBS:

Micron and Hynix last night agreed to "share" any damages judgement/settlement that occurs - sounds to me like they're expecting to lose.

That said, they both have also said they would appeal any judgement against them.

-----

On a side note, any "lower" priced picks to watch out for right now? Looking at something in the $1-$2 range to buy in. I'm not adverse to long term holds. Right now I'm mostly building a portfolio to pass along to my kids. I was lucky enough to buy in to a few (F, RMBS) when they were at their low points during the last couple years. But with 5 kids, I'd like to have a bit more invested.

They can threaten appeal all they want, but they need to post a bond of 150% of the damage value to do that, and if the damage value is even moderate, none of them have the ability to do that.

For your other question, the only answer I have for you is penny stocks, but you need to understand how it works and how it's being manipulated to use it to your own advantage. I have a subscription based service on that, but it's not currently open for new enrollment. Several members of this board are subscribed, so if any one of them wants to chime in on my analysis regarding that, feel free.

Penny stocks won't work for me - I use ShareBuilder and I'm fairly limited as to what markets I can buy from with them.

Gotcha, but it never hurts to have more than one account through different brokerages

Some places have better fills and the ability to short shares others won't have available. And then, like you just mentioned, some won't allow you to buy certain stocks or charge more depending on the quantity of stock bought.

Yeah, I was looking at opening an account with Merrill since I bank with BofA, but decided against it given I don't trade a heck of a lot anyway.

RMBS coming to noticeable resistance at the $18 level. Keeps bouncing off of that level and retrying.

You know... at this rate, the jury can deliberate until 2020 for all I care. The stock is on a tear - up 80%+ since the markets crashed 3 months ago.

Hope S&P gets to 1290 so I can get out. Think there'll be a anohter dip coming since Europe isn't sorted out. Fees at my broker is killing any profits.

I knew I should have played NFLX for a short term bounce off the bottom. I could have made a quick grand and got out. Live and learn. I'm not touching it now though.

Guess that problem went out of the window after I posted.

Alright, I'm out. Think I'll just hold cash for a bit, probably going to miss a big jump but I OK with just my 3%.

Chill, you're cool. I was up with "just my 3%" too in late July, then I got impatient and threw it all in after the manufactured "debt ceiling crisis" and got burned bad.

At one point I was down 20% almost in August and September. Now, I'm near breakeven again.

Any thoughts on companies dealing with Rare Earths right now? GMO, TC, etc.? Given China is tightening supply on rare earths now, I'm thinking some of these companies may be looking at some significant growth now that there's a competitive opportunity opening up.

For example: Why is SWC up 23% right now?

DOW JONES NEWSWIRES
Stillwater Mining Co.'s (SWC, SWC.U.T) third-quarter earnings soared on double-digit revenue growth, helped by stronger prices.
Shares jumped 10.1% to $10.95 in recent trading as the mining company's results beat expectations.
The company, which sells the majority of its production to Ford Motor Co. (F), restructured during the recession when demand dropped and it saw prices slump along with auto-sector production. Earlier this month, Stillwater acquired Peregrine Metals, a Canadian mining company with exploration prospects in South America.
Stillwater reported a profit of $40.7 million, or 37 cents a share, up from $5.9 million, or 6 cents a share, a year earlier. Revenue rose 78% to $253.7 million.
The two analysts polled by Thomson Reuters had most recently predicted earnings of 33 cents a share on revenue of $204.9 million.
Mine production revenue rose 64%, while recycling revenue increased 97%.
Palladium and platinum production output increased 6.2%, while average realized prices for palladium and platinum rose 44%. The volume of recycling material processed rose 70%.

Heard that companies were starting to move away from rare earth metals specifically because China and other shit countries had them by the balls.

How close they are to actually finding viable alternatives and putting into production, I don't know.

You do know that when you post an appeal bond its only a percentage of the face value, right? You are overconfident and I think may be deeply disappointed if things dont go your way. :'(

What you mean to say is that you have $200,000 sitting around... Can I come over to play?

I now have $216,300 lying around

The European crisis has me a little nervous, I feel better with short term stuff right now and staying fairly liquid I typically have 30% in high yield bonds too...

The European crisis will be solved. It is the same thesis with all the headaches the US has had. The have to do something.

Anyways, for the first time in a very long time I have some cash. Sold of my SWY holding to do that. On a downturn, I buy it back. On an upswing in the markets I will start trimming positions when the Dow nears 13,000.

Laughing at my portfolio. I kept buying USG as it's price dropped. And when it got really low I started buying calls and selling puts. Those options are some serious icing on the cake right now!
