Not just a game either....
I believe you are correct, especially when it took so much effort on the part of the ref to separate them. I think a 1 game suspension if it was just the hip check and the shove, but when it seemed like he wanted to go back for more, rest of the playoffs imo.
Why did Anderson go after Hansbrough? I didn't see Hansbrough do anything on that play.
Did Anderson not realize who actually bumped him?
Looks like a jump ball situation to me.
I'll be officiating game 6 btw.

A lot of the wrestling is away from the ball, so we often don't see the rough play going on.The commentators mentioned that evidently Hansborough has been pretty physical/rough all series vs multiple Heat players and it was just kind of culminating last night. I have no idea how true that is though, I just like to watch, I don't look that close lol.

I don't see why this shove is being compared to Nazr's shove in the previous round to argue favoritism. Clearly Birdman was the instigator in this sequence, but they were both jawing face to face and then Andersen pushed Hansbrough. Nazr shoved a surprised LeBron to the ground while James was looking at the ref. The initial hip check was properly called a flagrant 1.
Because no punch was ever thrown (automatic ejection), I think the refs made the right calls. You can fine Andersen for being crazy, but a 1-game ban would be an even worse decision than a partial-game ejection IMO.
From marketing and game-integrity standpoints, of course the NBA is going to protect its star players. Unfortunately you'll still have cases where a dumb foul alters the rest of the playoffs (1st round Rockets' Beverley injuring Russell Westbrook).
That's really a different question IMO. The surprise hip check was called a flagrant foul 1, i.e. "unnecessary" contact. Should it have been a flagrant 2, "unnecessary and excessive"? I think that's a stretch, but it would have been an automatic ejection if the refs saw it that way. They did review tape and had the opportunity to upgrade the call to flagrant foul 2. Generally, flagrant 2s are reserved for blows to the head/neck or other plays that clearly risk player health.Andersen clearly pushes Hansbrough while he isn't looking ...

If the NBA retroactively upgrades the foul, the ejection is not enforced in the next game (as far as I can tell). Metta World Peace had an elbow upgraded from no-call to flagrant 2 in February, but retroactive upgrades to a flagrant foul 2 seem to be pretty rare. MWP did not serve a 1-game suspension with the adjustment.
The rest of the action was both players jawing, chest-bumping and then Birdman shoving Hansbrough backwards. I understand you're trying to tell me the whole sequence deserves a suspension but the back-end alone is the comparison (to Nazr's shove) that I'm talking about.
Should sports leagues not protect its star players? Is it "unfair" for the NFL to protect QBs at the expense of RBs or special-teams grunts?
I noticed that the stands are mostly empty at the start of the game.
What a crowd I tell ya.
They also leave early even if the game hasn't reached an outcome yet.....
I'm the ignorant fan....but in all seriousness. We have great fans..are they late most of the time, yes...are they late on purpose, a lot of the times no...American Airlines arena is in the downtown area and honestly the traffic and parking SUCKS...it takes hours to drive a couple miles.
Now fans leaving early? I don't see that happen when the game is still undecided.
Back to basketbrawl (in this series)....the Heat are struggling with their shots...when they hit they are unbeatable...but when they are off and the other team is playing lights out the Heat can lose a close game.
They'll advance to the finals - again....but San Antonio is red hot now...I can see a close series with San Antonio possibly winning it all....we'll see though.
Go HEAT!
IIRC the Heat were having a hard time selling out their finals games when they won the title against the Mavs in 2006. Or were you not a fan back then?
Do you remember when Dwayne Wade shot 25 free throws in ONE GAME? More than the entire Dallas team combined? Biggest sham in the history of the finals.
Nope...dont remember the ticket sale figures 7 years ago and dont really care. Also dont care about other fan bases either. And about Wade getting hacked...oh well. You are just a Heat hater and dont have any respect for what they have accomplished this season. Its ok though...I understand. A lot of people feel the same way.
I grew up in Miami and love to have Pat Riley, LeBron, Wade, etc....its amazing. ..its hell of a lot of fun to witness.
Go Heat!
And what did they accomplish that will mean anything if they don't win a championship?
Anderson's suspended.. upgraded to a flagrant 2 and Hanbrough got this T rescinded. All good
To you and most non fans...probably nothing.
To me and some fans they've accomplished a lot this season, such as winning 66 games, winning 27 games straight, making the ECF 3 times in a row and possibly making the championship series 3 years in a row.
Individually watching Lebron win another MVP, acquiring Bird Man, Ray Allen.
If they don't win the championship it would suck of course...but it's not like doom and gloom either. I'm watching them in June which is great...fans get to talk about them at work, hear about them on the radio and TV nationally every day....
Honestly...it's fantastic....but I can understand non fans hatred (to a point)...
It's like the Patriots for me...I hate them to death (I'm a Dolphin fan)...but I have to respect what they've done as a team and organization.
.
Don't compare the Heat to the Patriots. Tom Brady has been with one team. Tom Brady wins with nobodies around him. Just like Lebron is doing now, but there's a big difference between the Heat and the Patriots in that respect.
