Gold gloves are a joke anyway. While I think Trout should have gotten it (whopping 21 BIS Defensive Runs Saved Above Average vs Jones' -13). The last time Jones was positive in this stat was in... 2009. Although Jones did play all 162 games, yet not sure if that's good if you're costing your team runs (negative rating).
McCutchen, for pure comparison sake, was a -5. Trout saved his team 21 runs above the average which is why his dWAR is so high. Denard Span, had he played more games, would have also deserved the GG - 20 Runs Saved in 14 less games than Trout (21) and a higher dWAR to boot.
But hey, at least they got JJ Hardy right.
Maybe voters still look at fielding %, like when Jeter won it last year with zero range. Which doesn't really matter if you cleanly field something hit to you vs getting to balls you have no business getting to, and then making the catch to save runs. How they calculate this, ask BIS (Baseball Info Solutions). Here is their definition:

It's on a scale of 0 (league average) to 30. 15-20 = the best fielders on average. Anything negative and you're costing your team runs. Which means Jones was pretty fracking bad.
