love how the headline makes it sound definitive but the first few sentences talk about how it is a possibility.

Latest I heard is that there appears to be damage to the ACL but since he already had a previous ACL injury they are going to wait til Dr. Andrews sees the mri and examines him.

With 8 months to go until opening day 2013, unless he is Adrian Petersen, surgery will mean he will miss a good part of 2013 or perhaps all of it.

shanahan should have took his helmets away and told him to go sit on the bench. any player is going to want to play no matter what.

I understand. But from hearing RG talking he kept going on about being the leader of the team, and I'm the man to do it.

I get it, he wants to win and will do anything to win. As a coach would you tell him no if he tells you he's fine, nothings wrong, etc? That then gets into some of the mentioned drama of a Dr. not clearing him to play, rumors, etc.

can you expand a bit more why that is good news? more interested in recovery time and long term effects

iirc you have some technical background in this area

if it's a partial tear, that means minor surgery and stem cell/prp injections and rehab up to around 7-9 months at most. but that's not the good news. the good news = not a career-ending injury and he's learned his lesson to chill the fuck out and take a seat if you're hurting and the game is on the line and you might have an injury that could get worse, keeping you from playing in the next game.

Wow, I can't believe Reggie Wayne and some Colts fans are complaining about Ray doing his dance after the last play of the game. Hey Reggie, it wasn't about you or your team.

Colts fan.

Don't care. He's a legend. Let him celebrate. That's the advantage of home field. Respect one of the greatest def players ever.

Thank you. It wasn't about celebrating the win though. It had nothing to do with that. It was his last time on the field in front of the city that supported him for 17 years, he was simply doing it for the fans.

I'm sure Colts fans wish they had the same opportunity with Peyton, it's a shame they didn't.

I know it's not the same thing (not an injury), but it reminds me of when Pedro Martinez convinced the Red Sox manager to keep him in a game longer than he should've. Players are sometimes the worst judge of how they're feeling and/or performing. But, since many great players have played well through pain/illness/etc, they try to convince coaches to keep them in.

Basically this.

If they were away, he probably wouldn't have done what he did. If it wasn't someone as prolific as Ray lewis, it probably wouldn't have been done.

It will probably still be the most popular Ravens jersey for years to come

Well as the announcers said.

When you think of Bronco's legacy, you think "elway".

When you think of Packers legacy you think "Favre" (for now anyways.) [or Lambardi. but this goes without saying.]

When you think of Lions legacy you think "Barry Sanders"

(and so on)

No doubt, Ray lewis, who started the NFL on the ravens first year they started up, and having the career he did will be the "legacy" of the ravens for a time to come.

It's not about what he said, but how he played on the field.

Bill Barnwell at Grantland broke it down like this (and I agree with him): there's two ways to look at this, the short term view and the long term view.

The long term view you definitely take him out and avoid screwing your franchise for years. I don't think anyone disagrees with that.

The short term view is usually that you leave the guy in to help you win the game. But it was affecting him so much that they were actually hurting their chances to win, especially given how well their backup has played this year.

There was basically no excuse to let the guy continue. And that's coming from a guy who only turned on the game to watch him play.

The only time I am fine with keeping in a player that shows an injury is if it is literally basically their last game of their career and they are adamant at being in the game reguardless of said injury.

But if it is a rookie, someone you want to lead your team for years to come... and is showing signs of an injury. You just do not play them. Have to look at the overall bigger picture.

Yeah Bob3 can spout off all of the manly cliches and chest thumping he wants. It doesn't change the fact that he *wasn't* the best quarterback on the field, let alone even on his own team after that 1st quarter. He can compare himself to a warrior all he wants. The thing about warriors is that while brave, usually end up dead. Dead warriors can't throw TD passes.

You are mis-remembering. Every time the defense faltered, Trent was there to pick up the slack.

When did the defense falter? Only allowing 165 points all season. An NFL best/record.

And I swore trent was never a Raven. Granted I only ever saw the ravens as a defensive team since they never had a high powered offense like the current Packers, Patriots, Saints, and whatever other team fits this.

Every time Ray Lewis and crew didn't get a pick-6, Dilfer had to lead the offense onto the field. If Dilfer wasn't such a good quarterback, that could have led to points for the opposing team.

I think Jamal Lewis, rookie running 1400 yards had much more to do with the success of the offense.

Add in the ravens had 5 consecutive games in which the offense scored 0 touchdowns... yet they won 2 of those games.

Dilfer was a pretty good qb. His specialities were 'don't make too many mistakes,' 'let the defense shut down the other team,' and 'make some completions when the running game doesn't get first downs.' He did this to great effect in Tampa and Baltimore. He wasn't the key to either team's championship, though.
