I'm amazed the Pats won't pay Welker the money he deserves. Does so much underneath.

The Pats have a system and a philosophy. Part of that philosophy is not paying very large salaries so they have money to keep quality players throughout the whole roster. The Pats have had some top players like Gronk go down but because the Pats have quality replacements it doesn't kill the season.

Welker has been phenomenal. He may just not fit into the Patriots salary wise next year.

And for anyone who wants to complain just look at Belicheks record with the Pats.

The pats defense gets ripped on, but of the parts of the game I saw today, they can tackle. They did a great job on A. Foster and gave up very few yards after catches.

I wouldn't say he's been the face of the franchise.

Look, he has had a phenomenal 6 years. But he has taken more hits than a receiver who has played 12 years. The Pats will offer him a decent contract. If another team offers him more then he should take it.

The Pats have Vollmer and Talib becoming free agents. Plus, every year the Pats second stringers are picked up by other clubs. So the Pats can't afford to put that much money into a single player who is not named Brady.

Welker also will earn a ton of money in endorsements if he stays. If he goes to another team he won't get that until he has at least one very good season.

In this day of free agency look at how hard it is for teams to make it to the playoffs, much less the Super Bowl year in and year out. The Patriots system which basically says you hurt the team if we pay you too much money works. And it works better than any other teams system.

I think the Pats will offer Welker a three year deal, non guaranteed, with a multi million dollar signing bonus. Welker will have financial security and a life long income as a New England sports icon. I hope he takes the deal.

Yeah the defense improved as the season wore on... signing Aqib Talib helped moved Devin McCourty to Safety. That, by itself, helped our D tremendously.

The Pats also changed their D about halfway thru the season. Once they got Talib and Dennard showed his stuff they started playing a lot more man to man. They also set the D line free to rush the passer. Its almost a completely new defensive scheme.
