Definitely reinvesting dividends. That's an automatic for me whenever I trade and it's available.

Not trying to change the new subject of this thread of AAPL vs. the world, but does anyone have any good recommendations on some Dividend Growth Mutual Funds (not sure if that's the technical term or not)? I am looking to park some extra cash for just about forever and was hoping you guys had some suggestions.

If your not stuck on a fund, I could recomend some stocks. JNJ for example.

HTML 5 has potential, but I prefer native apps. They work better offline too, but none of this means the death of AAPL.

No, it just means there may be a paradigm shift coming.

Curious. What HTML 5 apps have you compared against their native couterparts?

I think Angry Birds is interesting but it seems to be slower than the native app. Then again, it was a demo so I am not sure how much focus was given to performance. I think the intent was to simply show what could be done.

I actually have very high (as in two biggest positions) concentrations in ABT and KO, as well as a smattering of XOM and GS, so I was looking for an easy way to get more dividend appreciation and diversify a little as well.

I had thought about picking just a couple stocks, but the mental need to diversify drove in the direction of funds vs. stocks.

JNJ has gone no where the past few years and they have been plagued with all kind of manufacturing/QA issues (recalls). What is your investment thesis on them going forward? Undervalued on an FCF basis? I'm not sure I am liking what Wheldon is doing as CEO - all kinds of issues under his watch.

I don't want to speak for IHMJ, but I think he was just offerring JNJ up based on my request for dividend related growth funds as JNJ has had a solid dividend track record.

Fail. Tried daytrading SU. Success in that I made $50 in 10 minutes ($25 post comissions). Fail in that I would have made $200 if I sold closer to market closing.

FWIW:
I bought some options in RIMM over the past few days. Thesis, RIMM is going to tank or go up alot in the next 2 years. Probably in the next year. All are Jan 2013 expiration. From memory, bought calls at the strike of 8 and 50 and as a hedge, I bought some puts at the 3 strike. Considering puts at the 5 or 8 strike but have not yet puled the trigger on those.

A gamble with not so much money. Potentially a big pay off.

FWIW: This has nothing to do with competitors. And everything to do with everything I have learned in the past week. I know what others here will say and I can honestly say that I am not that concerned with it. This is something called cigar butt investing.

Buffett describes the cigar-butt style of investing as buying a company at a sufficiently low price and then waiting for a favorable "hiccup" in the companies fortunes that creates an opportunity to sell the stock at a profit. The comparison to a cigar-butt is made because the company in question usually has "one puff of smoke left".

I accept that I could loose 100% of my investment. It is founded on the premise of value investing. RIMM currently generates over $1 billion in FCF each year and has $1 billion in cash with no debt. And a market cap of $8.7B. While I'd rather pay closer to $6B, this is still what I view to be cigar butt investing. If hte market cap hits $6B, I'll cosnider some more call options, possibly out to 2014.

Hate that feeling when you quit a stock a little bit too early. been playing with LON:LLOY for the past few months. Just sold off my holding expecting another major seesaw action and it's gone up another 1.2% since

It'll drop in the next couple of days, I'll buy back in, and the dance will begin again.

I keep telling myself to not be greedy - little steps at a time. But it's still hard to swallow the fact that selling an hour later could have made me at least a few hundred more quid!

This rally really makes me sad that I'm 100% cash. F@(#*#&@#@!(!)!@!*@!)(

I know the feeling... not as sold off as you but won't be long before I'll have to start considering moving my 401k holdings in increments into money market funds. :|

Food for Thought:

JP Morgan's perma-bull Thomas Lee was calling for a 3 month pause in the days leading up to today's jobs report:
- his 2012 S&P 500 projection: http://www.businessinsider.com/jp-m...ategist-thomas-lee-sp-500-target-2012-2011-12 (from middle of December 2011)
- "single best indicator" - http://video.cnbc.com/gallery/?video=3000070675 (start at 4:15 mark) (from this Wednesday)
- "3 month pause" - http://video.cnbc.com/gallery/?video=3000070888 (his specific comments start around 1:18 point; from Thursday after market close)
- "complacent pause" (http://video.cnbc.com/gallery/?video=3000068952) (Bob Doll, Monday January 30 before market open)

Goldman becoming more long-term bullish in days leading up to earnings report:
- http://video.cnbc.com/gallery/?video=3000069172 (stronger than expected remaining global growth?)
- http://www.cnbc.com/id/46233396 (Jim O'Neill's observations, including Germany is growing)

Technical Analysis indicating Upcoming Inflection Point?:

Bear Market Rally vs. New Bull? (this is an old article from last year):

Interesting tidbit I heard on TV: Ben Bernanke, Mervyn King, and Mario Draghi were all apparently classmates at MIT (the thought of that much potential money printing must make Sanelli's head feel like it's going to explode!)

Finally put more money in... stupid amount into one stock. Still about 50% cash to bail it out in case.

LOL, bought Amazon before earnings and took a bath, nearly 1/2 back already though.

I was approved for level 2 options today, will likely sell some weekly covered calls on what I'm holding, looks like a nice way to make some $.

Like a friend of mine said "There's your "dividend" for Apple"

Yay, pullback!

not really, it basically a wash today from what I see.

this calls for a pull back shortly. With everyone wondering when the pull back will occur, any downward motion will probbaly result in a large dip as it builds on itself.
