I realized that it's just as hard sitting back and watching all-in and all-out.

It really is...but hey, I think the last few days have basically been a short term sale and next week will be better...hopefully. Most of my money is in dividend-paying stocks, though, so at least I have that token comfort.

401K -- 62%
CIM --- 36% .. up 1.5%
RIMM -- 1% ... down 26%
PRGN -- .6% .. down 3%
Cash --- 0%

I am holding CIM for the dividends so I can focus on work rather than the market for now.
I expect to hold all of these for the rest of the year with little to no change.

What a mother effing joke... Right up to the point Greece agreed to its next bailout, everyone was crying "omfg, this is not the end, the rest of Europe and Greece will still default!!!".

Well, 2 or 3 months later, a phat 20-30% rally in many blue-chip/big company stocks, and we're back to "uncertainty about Europe sent the market down for third day straight".

I have a question about a stock I own, figured this would be the best place for it.

I had X amount of shares of Medco, which got bought by Express Scripts last year, and the deal finally closed as of Monday morning. The deal for shareholders was that 1 MHS share would be converted to 0.81 ESRX share plus $28.80 cash.

Fine, I see the 28.80 cash for each share of Medco I had, and I see the appropriate amount of Express Scripts shares in my trading account.

Here is the problem: 1) ALL of the ESRX shares have a purchase date of 04/03/2012, making them all short-term holdings, regardless of when the MHS shares were bought.

And the bigger issue 2) ALL of the ESRX shares have a cost-basis of $0.00!!!! Does this mean if I sell it I would have to pay tax on the entire amount of the sale? That is hardly fair. I thought the purchase price should be the strike point when the transaction went through.

Am I missing something?

What is your position on DNDN? Did you get in on the first huge dip to ~11, or the second one when it hit ~6? Do you think they will ever be profitable, or are you waiting for a quick bump and sale?

Bought into LYG this week too - I'm certain it'll go down more but this is a long position so I'm just ignoring it for 2012

think he's expecting a resurrection given the holiday we're in. for dndn and rmbs, both of which azurik had an irrational emotional attachment to and more than likely still does!

I'm predicting a bad week next week. Jobs data for March was absolute garbage, IMO. What do you guys think? S&P Futures down 1.1% which is...hm. Discuss.

I remember people told me that about AMD...how I had an irrational attachment to it...lol +76% from where I bought it at initially. But then again, AMD *is* making money...I'll have to look at DNDN's and RMBS' data to see if they're undervalued or if they're just going to be zombies that get possessed by the rally ghost (kind of like what happened with OCZ on Friday). I get the impression Azurik is a smart guy, so if he's holding, he does have a plan.

I actually relented at the beginning of March and started plowing money in.

"Top 5 holdings":
SU

Cash

I've got massive, overly-risky positions in the first (only) two, but they've been around forever, and aren't going anywhere: oil and country's biggest supermarket chain. Both have been dropping while others rose, so hope I bought close to the bottom.

Here's hoping! Just haven't had time to do the week-trading (catching blips up, selling before down) I use to - not like that worked out. Tell you the truth, week-trading is draining and very involving, and I'm getting a bit tired.

Hehe, I hear ya. Basically my big hurdle to overcome as a new trader/investor is to try not to get psyched out. Right now I fully expect my holdings to lose a decent chunk of value over the next week thanks to this jobs report. Keeping my nerves in check is the big challenge here...

Ugh, I had to watch my stuff go down 20% last August-September. That's into the 5 figure range... Go through that for a few weeks and you'll just learn to go numb.

Jobs report wasn't that bad, it just wasn't that good. Still "gained" 120,000, so the trend is up, just slowly as everyone should know by now.

Biggest risk I'm sitting on is a Canadian housing market collapse, which is on its way.

I remember your AMD purchase and wish I had cash available at that time to join you. You did very well with that purchase.

Azurik purchased RMBS high. He may be holding in the hope it may rise again like a phoenix or at least sell a little each year for the loss to provide a tax deduction. Just because somebody smart is holding does not mean the stock is good to purchase now.

I've been mostly out for the past couple weeks. Currently riding on SPY and TSLA and a butt load of cash. Waiting on stuff to go on sale again...

This week's gonna be a wonderful buying opportunity. Transferring some more cash into my trading account so I can nab some more of the stuff I'm holding.

I have more of an income oriented approach for my "top" holdings. That's just from my brokerage account, if I counted 401(k) I probably would have to swap one or 2 holdings out.
