BTW, I would like to add that there were over 15000 people at the Preds opening preseason game. This may be normal for some of the big time markets but I was shocked at how many people showed up. We could barely get this many a few years ago at a regular season game.

As for whether it was deserved? Well, Scott was obviously out there for a revenge fight (or apparently the whole line was out there for a line brawl). And none was warranted, because Tropp asked for the fight. Devane did nothing wrong. Rolston left Scott out there for a revenge fight that shouldn't have happened, escalating a situation that should have never been escalated. I have no problem with him being punished for that.
What's bush league is all of the fighting and cheap shots that have happened during the preseason. That'll happen when you fill the rosters with guys who have no business being in the NHL, like John Scott.

Coaches and players do it all the time. Fined for it? Rarely.I don't know why you're confused about the fine being for player selection. Do you think players decide whether they stay on the ice for the next face off? Whether they stay on the ice or change lines, it's the coach's decision.
