Would it have really mattered? If you recall, the Packers proceeded to drive the ball well into field goal range and then ran out the clock.

It might have made a big difference.

- Time. At a minimum, Dallas would have needed one more play to score the TD, so count on 30 seconds off the clock. Had they run two or more plays, it would have left Green Bay with even less time.

- Score. A TD would have given Dallas a one point lead. They would have gone for two points. Had they made it, Green Bay would only tie with a field goal.

- Field position. Dallas took over the ball at their 32. A kickoff for a touchback could have potentially placed them on their 20.

A lot of what-ifs, but the biggest may have been the psychological difference that playing ahead or behind would have made during that last Green Bay possession.

Well... Manning continued his multi week span of not passing like Manning. I think he might be done after this season. He just hasn't looked good and it seems like his age has caught up to him.

Indy played a good game and I can root for them for at least one week.

I hope he just has some sort of undisclosed injury and has not just suddenly fallen off a cliff. I guess it happens though, Favre had a fantastic 2009 season then a terrible 2010 season before he retired. Jake Delhomme is the craziest one in recent memory, he was playing fine until he had that awful game against the Cardinals in the playoffs in 2008 and just completely went to dog crap.

Brady's TD pass to LaFell was one of the best passes all season. It was literally 100% perfectly placed. He certainly still has it.

Try and imagine a Gronk/Chancellor match-up, the unstoppable force vs the immovable object!. But to be honest Indy is gaining confidence and their line play is MUCH better so if the Patriots don't bring their "A" game they might be the next Indy victim..

Don't get carried away. Denver just wasn't that good in the second half of the season and Peyton Manning is pretty much done at this point IMO. Brady on the other hand is firing on all cylinders and the Patriots as a team have been improving every week. Also remember what NE did to Denver earlier this season.

The Colts and by extension Colts fans should be proud of how far they've come but beating the Brady-bunch at home is a bit of a stretch for anybody in the AFC this year. The future is bright for Luck & company though.

yeah, a slowed down image that shows like 2 frames per second ... that is helpful.

the one angle that was from like outside the endzone from the opposite side of the field is the one you can see that he doesn't have control of the ball while he's taking all of those steps.

I didn't watch a second of football today until I came into this thread (infraction) - I clicked on the last page and saw your quote of his gif. I wondered what play had a bad call - and didn't know what the call was at that time. I watched the gif play through half a dozen times and thought, "he's going to the ground as part of the process of catching the ball. Looks like it would have been a completion if he kept both hands on it, but if you go to the ground during the catch, you've gotta maintain possession the entire time. I'll bet they called it a good catch & I'll see 50 billion Facebook posts again this week with 'the new Cowboys jerseys' and a picture of the refs." Glad to see they made the right call.

This.

The Patriots are a better team. Yes, the better team doesn't always win, but the Colts have far exceeded expectations after a very rollercoaster year where quite frankly, they showed they weren't a good football team. The problem with the Colts is that some weeks they look like world beaters and then the next week, they get steamrolled. They were a better team against top-level competition last year than they were this year, that's for sure.

As for the Patriots, good luck -- this may be your last shot at a Super Bowl.

And to think Cleveloland parlayed that pick from the trade into Manziel.

So, after I posted that, I read something that REALLY shows how far Trent Richardson has sunk. He had fallen to #3 on the depth chart by week 16. Well apparently he was slotted to play special teams this week and they decided they didn't even want him to do that (or maybe he threw a fit, not sure; he has been classy and not complained in public).

Richardson has been a complete and total bust, but I still liked the gamble Grigson took. Of course we sure could use another offensive lineman at the rate ours go down.

What a game, what a catch/non-catch.

Rodgers played his heart out towards the end, just lights out. Something like 8 of his last 10 passes were for 1st downs. Secondary was getting shredded.

With regards to the Dez play. I believe that was a catch, what my eyes saw said yes. The rules are left to interpretation and disagree. I'm OK with the refs calling it incomplete, it's in the rules for some gray area.

How do you extend the ball towards the goal if you don't have possession? How many steps can you take while "going to the ground"? I want the rule addressed. I have no idea how though...

I'm incredibly happy with the Cowboys seasons, what a treat from what I expected.

I am glad they made the right call in the packers game, as already linked earlier here The second gif shows it was not a catch by any stretch of the imagination and should not be. He was going to the ground and it clearly came loose when it hit the ground. With the way the refs seemed to have it in the bag for dallas though i was shocked they overturned it.

As much as i will be rooting for GB and Indy next week, i am fairly certain its going to be a NE and Seattle Superbowl. I don't think GB with a gimpy rodgers can go into Seattle and beat that defense. They are just playing unreal right now which pains me to say because i hate them(Except for Wilson, he's awesome and has more class then the rest of the team put together). If Rodgers was healthy i think they could at least make a game of it.

Look at the link i posted(that i stole from another poster a few pages ago). It shows it a alot closer to real time(though still slightly slo mo) which helps see how fast it all happened. Its not really 3 steps since one was just a toe hitting the ground as he fell. The reach is really just his momentum carrying him towards the goal line. Plus it does not matter, he was going to the ground and the ball came loose when it hit the ground. There is no way it was a catch. Its really his own fault. On 4th down maintaining possession was more important that getting the TD. He got greedy and it cost them.

How do people keep saying it was a catch? Are you really saying you know the rules better than nfl referees? I mean seriously.

I understand people not liking the rule, but the refs called it correct based on the rules.

Peyton Manning vs Indy

How many wins/losses vs his former team?
and how many in the playoffs?

His feet his the ground 3 times... If he was going out of bounds would those taps have been called steps? Yes.

On the momentum/extend part, watch this.

If he wasn't extending the ball would have hit 1 yard line, not closer to the goal line. He was clearly extending, imo.

This isn't some mystical contract with 100s of pages of contingencies that takes a team of lawyers to comprehend. It's a couple sentences, I'm pretty sure most of us can read and apply such things.

I think most people have a problem with the consistency at which something like this would be called. Had this happened midfield and it was someone who knocked the ball out of the hands of Dez reaching for say a first down, I have little doubt it would be called a fumble.

And, half an hour before that, they did not overturn a GB receiver's (I believe it was Cobb) catch that turned when it hit the ground. Now, this wasn't a big sexy play, but it still happened and was the exact opposite to the call made at the end of the game.

I also think most people understand that according to the rules, it was incomplete. A lot of people are challenging the definition of a football move; and, IMO (which means nothing really), reaching for the goal line is the definition of a football move.

And, even Garrett admits that play itself didn't lose them the game. GB still outplayed Dallas in the second half. Rodgers heated up and the GB receivers played like they were about to get sent packing. And, even after the Dez incompletion Dallas still had a chance to get the ball back and failed.

Overall, it was a great season for Dallas. They proved their work on the offensive line was worth it and they proved the time spent under Garrett wasn't wasted. Now, they can boost their defense and continue to be contenders. At least, until Witten retires. I have a feeling without him, Romo is going to be less effective. Witten doesn't get nearly the credit he deserves.

If they resign Revis, I think they'll have a few more years of opportunity. Outside of Brady and Wilfork, NE has one of the youngest teams in the league.

Outside of Brady though, who can lead that team? I have faith in Bill being able to coach a QB into being a contender, but how long will that take? They went from Bledsoe to Brady. I don't expect them to just happen upon another great QB for awhile.
