One team I'm looking at streaming for Defense/DST is Miami. They were already a top 5 pass rushing team last year according to PFF in 2013 with Wake, Odrick and Starks all posting +11.8 or higher and Wheeler and Solai slightly above average. Their main weakness was against the run, but now the worst against the run is gone - ELLERBE - who they HAD to play because of his large contract.
Enter Game 1 last week. Losing Misi to a high ankle sprain hurts against the run (one of their best), but he'll be back in 2-4 weeks. However, DAT PASS RUSH. Newly acquired big money man Earl Mitchell posted a +3.1 last week to go along with Wake's devastating NFL Week 1 best of +7.8 (he oblitered one of the best RT's in the league in Vollmer) and Odrick (+2.9) and Starks (+0.9) continued from last year opportunities playing off the WAKE. This front four is going to manhandle people, even when they're only rushing 4 just as you saw vs the Pats last week. With Cortland Finnegan and Grimes holding down the corners and surprising LB play last week, I would take this defense very very seriously. I'm going to go out on a limb and say their pass rush will be the best in the league (barring injury) and knock Seattle off their top slot of #1 pass rush. Don't sleep on them early, if you want high upside in strip sack potential then take a chance with Miami.
Another sleeper pick, although more hyped than the 'Fins, is Tampa. They snagged big boy pass rusher Micheal Johnson from Cincy in the offseason to pair with the devastator known as Gerald McCoy. Paired with a do-it-all, superstar LB in Lavonte David and a lockdown corner in Verner, this defense has a lot of potential. This week they are in the lowest OVER/UNDER game of the week, so if your league rewards low scoring like mine does, then Tampa is a solid bet. I am using them in my one league where I have explosive playmakers and I'm not looking for as much upside from a defense (like Miami's) but more consistency. Granted, they did get off to a slow start (Finished 7th in Run Stop but crappy in bottom 5 in pass coverage), but let's see how they do this week, Micheal Johnson had a crappy game vs Carolina and will need to step it up.
