I made my league's playoffs again, even after drafting AP and stacy. Lesson is to draft WRs early and often. I drafted Tate, Jackson, Nicks, Nelson in the first 10 rounds. Three of those ended up being great picks.

If injuries are valid reasons for a bust .... Knowshon Moreno

Given that you probably picked him up in the 8/9/10 rounds...it's hard to call that a bust.

As for the "Draft WR's Early" option...eh.

I did that in one league. Had the 7th pick in the draft of a 12 man league. Main RB's came off and I took Demarius Thomas there and Julio Jones on the swing. Leveon Bell went one pick ahead of me coming back to the 3rd round. At that point best RB's on the board were Stacy, Ellington, Bush, Jennings, Spiller, Gerhart, Ben Tate, Sankey.

And that was for RB1. Bleh.

Compare that to the #1 team in that league that wound up with Lynch and Bell. I barely stumbled into the playoffs.

Pick 2:
Tre Mason @ WSH [4th-best run D]
Giovanni Bernard vs PIT [12th-best run D]
Isaiah Crowell vs IND [28th-best run D]
Julian Edelman @ SD [14th-best pass D]

As always, any help much appreciated!

Crowell easily should be one, and then probably Mason or Edelman. I might lean towards Mason because of how well he's been running.

Need to pick up a defense for week 14. My two defenses are solid 15/16 picks.

So, what should it be:
Tamba Bay @ Detroit
Dallas EChi
Washington vs STL
Cleveland vs Ind
NO vs Car
NYJ @Min
Carolina @NO
Pitt @Cinc

Tempted by Pitt as Troy Polamalu and Ike Taylor are back.

I currently have the KC and Miami defenses. KC is up against Arizona which is my current choice. Probably a good choice at that.

Manziel over Kaepernick and Alex Smith this week?

I got no idea on Manziel. He could rush for 80 yards, scamper for two scores, and toss another score and 200+ yards. But he might do that along with 6 sacks, 3INT's, and a fumble lost to go with it.

He could come out and throw away three picks and then get yanked by the end of the 1st quarter. Who knows.

I'm guessing he'll score 20ish points and have a couple "whoa" plays. Just enough to convince owners to start him the week following. Where he'll completely stink up the joint and get pulled in the early 2nd quarter and singlehandedly bounce them out of the fantasy playoffs.

Yeah defenses have no tape on Manziel so he might get a pass for a game or two while they scheme against him. He does have something in common with another former rookie QB who now sports a Super Bowl Ring.

Both him and Russell Wilson were drafted to play in the MLB. There's something to be said for natural athletic ability and multi-sport talents that get you drafted into two professional leagues.

NO out of that group, and other sites agree.
The Saints should be able to smell it now. Although they’re 5-7, they are tied with the Falcons for the NFC South lead. The Falcons are going to lose at Lambeau next Monday night, which means the Saints can take control by beating up on the Panthers Sunday. This projects as a hostile environment kind of game at home, in a dome, with a Rob Ryan defense going after one of the league’s worst offensive lines. I like the Saints as a play more than the Giants or Titans this week for big-play potential.

Kaepernick plays against Raiders @ Oakland. Alex Smith plays against Cardinals @ Arizona.

Eh, only Manziel and Crapernick have high upside. Smith does not, but you know you'll get at least 10-15 points so he's the safe low point play. If you don't want to play it safe with a measly 15 points, then play Manziel - all 3 almost equally suck so play the QB who is at home. There's a good chance he'll be playing from behind and forced to pass or run and he has the best weapons of all 3 in the passing game, with Josh Gordon/Baby Hawk/most likely Jordan Cameron. PFF ranks Manziel one spot ahead of Crapernick at 15&16, Smith is 30th.

Playoff time... its a tough fight since i dont know how many of my players will make it sunday, i have reed, Ellington, Rashad Jennings. I figure i need to take this one game at a time so either will be dropped once i find out they aren't playing.

So i need to brainstorm here. PPR league with #2 waiver.

I have Crabtree (VS OAK) and Martavis Bryant( VS CINNY) for my final WR, not a fan of either .

I could pick up guys like Bailey (VS was), Woods (VS DEN), D.Adams (ATL), Greg jennings(jets)

I drafted Jennings

Crabtree and M.Bryant, I'm staying away from this week. Crabtree has a 53 rating vs DJ Hayden (decent but not ridiculously good) and Crapernick is coming off one of his worst weeks. Both should bounce back but I wouldn't risk it. M.Bryant - His snaps went down slightly last week (33/92) and haven't gone up all year (never more than 39 snaps), he's too boom or bust for me.

Looking at the matchup percentages - Bailey has the highest rating at 82/100 vs David Amerson (who is terrible), Adams vs Robert McClain 73, Woods 61 vs Bradley Roby, Jennings vs Kyle Wilson 56.
I like Woods the best since Denver has a good Run D and they will most likely be playing catch-up in the air, and Watkins has a banged up hip... even if Talib is on him (if Watkins is out), Talib has been beatable this year and that matchup grades a 61. Chris Harris is the guy to watch out for on Denver and he'll be on Hogan for over 1/3 of the time, statistically, but Woods could run into him *some* of the time which goes in Harris' favor (absolute shutdown corner this year).

Bailey is as good a pick as Woods or better since he's been on a tear; this is despite the fact that StL will also gash Washington on the ground with Mason - how much is anyone's guess. If they go to him he should continue to eat heartily and with the least resistance of anyone.

Jennings is a total coin flip since teammate Charles Johnson has a slightly better matchup and then there's Rudolph back in the mix (not to mention Wright and Patterson lower on the depth chart). The Vikings at home will probably have this game in hand early, possibly with help from the defense terrorizing Geno, so that could cut into Jennings' opportunities if the game flows in such a manner.

Davonte Adams could see some action since Trufant will be on Jordy but Cobb has a beatable guy in Josh Wilson (58 matchup) so they may just milk that, but Adams is an above average bet possessing the best matchup of the 3 so he could get more action than usual. In general I stay away from Adams since Jordy/Cobb are virtually matchup proof and get the lion's share of the points.

Well the playoffs are here. I've pretty much coasted through the season on autopilot, but now that it's crunch time I need to be a little more judicious on selecting my starters.

My WRs:

Maclin v SEA
Brown @ CIN
J Jones @ GB
D Jackson v STL
D Hopkins @ JAC
Terrance Williams @ CHI

Maclin will probably draw Sherman so I think I'll sit him. D Jackson has a banged up leg so his value might be diminished this week. So that leaves me with the bolded starters. Anyone think my reasoning is faulty?

Sounds good, Maclin and Hopkins both have tough matchups at 30 and 49 ratings. PFF analysis:

If you have Maclin on your team and don’t have another option, hope Maclin gets some snaps away from the shutdown cornerback. If Maclin plays a majority of his snaps against Sherman; he will likely struggle. My biggest concern is Sanchez having the time to find Maclin down the field. I could see Maclin catching a high number of passes, but I don’t think he will give you much in terms of yards and touchdowns.
...
Am I really suggesting you bench a young receiver coming off the game of his life? Yes. I am suggesting that Hopkins stays on your bench assuming you have a better option. McCray may not be well known but he has been fantastic lately. I am not suggesting you bench Hopkins for any scrub out there, but if you have another decent option, I suggest you go with him.

I partly don't agree with the Hopkins assessment but agree with Maclin. I think Hopkins will be successful if they go to him, he has an inch and 25 lbs on McCray despite them having similar other measurables. What is likely to happen is that Fitzmagic goes to Andre Johnson more, who has a dreamy matchup against Dwayne Gratz and HST also pounds the rock with Foster against a crappy Run D. Hopkins is at risk for a quiet day based on these other variables but he's almost matchup proof since ascending to the #1 receiver role. Your other options (Williams, DJax) have similar rated matchups. While Colt McCoy does take deep shots at DJax at least a couple times per game, he will most likely get swallowed up by the St.L defense and that won't allow for DJax' deep routes to happen. T.Williams will be going up against Tim Jennings over half the time which is a similar matchup to Hopkins/McCray, except TWill averages only 4 targets and hasn't had a TD in the past 5 weeks (vs 7 targ for Hopkins). Stick with Hopkins.

Edit: Bah, you had a bye week. lol.
