AAANDDDD soccer is again irrelevant in the USA, took a little while longer than expected.

Haha, you could hear that clearly on ESPN when they put up the extra time. Klinsmann screamed, "1 minute? Where the fuck does 1 minute come from?!?!"

Really, the US did a great job this tournament considering their skill level and the skill level of their opponents. We played Germany, Portugal, Ghana (who were playing strong), and Belgium. Strong opposition and for us to do what we did shows some promise for the future of the US team. Some of our younger players showed a lot of potential as well.

Don't know what we're going to do to replace Howard though. Probably just have to shore up the defense more.

The US was terrible at passing and thus made things easy for Belgium, but I would still give them edge over Argentina. Not least because Argentina havent been that impressive

I think Argentina will win for a few reasons.

1. Belgian players were puking at the end of the match. They are exhausted.
2. Argentina gets 1 extra day of rest.
3. Argentina still hasn't played to their potential. Really, I expect them to pull their head out at some point.
4. It's nearly home field advantage for Argentina.
5. And of course, Messi.

Edit: That being said, I'm rooting for Belgium.

Argentina gets one extra day? How so? Maybe 2 extra hours.

That being said, I think Belgium really played well. The US just was flat, mostly because their mid field is just not on par with the rest of the world, and didn't really start getting chances until Belgium was tired. They played well, just not well enough.

With the USA out, I wouldn't mind Messi finally getting his WC, but I don't see Argentina, playing like they are now, able to beat Germany, France, Netherlands, etc.

What? Argentina was very unimpressive in todays match and in the tournament in general. They are not even top 3 among South American teams.

Columbia should beat Brazil, another overhyped unimpressive team. People ranked them way to high because they beat Italy and Spain previously, but as we found out, both those teams are not World Cup finalist material this year. Looking like Netherlands v. Columbia for the final.

That last 15 minutes was intense, Howard was in beat mode all game long...they just weren't lucky enough, had 2 fantastic chances

There is no doubt that this has been the best World Cup in a while.

Lemme guess, soccer fan every 4 years right?

Now that the USA is out, let's leave the thread to the rest of the people who actually give a shit about soccer. I bet a few of these guys in this thread can name the MAN U or Real Madrid rosters.

Our time is over. Time to wait another 4 years.

Was anyone else completely impressed by Yedlin? When he subbed in for Johnson the BBC talking heads were noting his relative lack of experience at the world cup level, but within a few minutes they were all fans. He handled the ball really well in the corner and had a few nice crosses.

How should I know? I'm an American who barely pretends to like soccer once every 4 years. I watched 10 minutes of portugal vs usa. I stopped watching when that USA defender laid on the ground during the extra time for a solid minute. It was infuriating to see that kind of bullshit out of someone who wears the American flag on his shirt. What would the veterans think who fought for this country? He laid on his back while the rest of his team battled to maintain their lead. It was disgusting.

Not sure why brazil would be favored...perhaps what they've done in previous years, but not this one.
