I just saw the game again (the commentary alone was worth it). Question though. Why were so many Brazilian players getting on their knees and praying after the game?

This has to rate as one of the biggest melt downs in sporting history. No way Brazil is that bad. They just failed to take the pressure big time.

Woke up today and had to double check the score to confirm I wasnt just hallucinating last night
Its bizarre

Brazil just completely lost it after the 2-0, you could see the panic in the way they played
Its like suddenly they had been replaced by Azerbaijan or something

I think in the end the home turf pressure worked against them... I highly doubt this would have happened had the game been outside Brazil

And today we have Messi vs Robben (because thats basically all it is)
Im fully expecting it to go to penalties or at least extra time considering how both play, but I hope we get a nice surprise

Praying for Devine intervention. They would like to live through the tournament. They failed to deliver the ten goal spread the cartel wanted.

Announcement made at the stadium to the German fans to stay in the stands after the match. They will be escorted out for their safety. Sensible move

Heard they do that that all games, not something special for this game.

Hoping for a better second semi final. Obviously not going to be 7-1, but the Dutch could make it very one sided for themselves.

This is now the fourth longest dedicated to one topic thread on this forum. Who says soccer isn't popular in America (given that is the country where the majority of posters are from).

It isn't. Like at all. The world cup is popular, people are just riding the wave.

It's kind of like after the women's world cup, people in the USA suddenly think that the market can support a woman's soccer league, so they start one up and it fails within the year. MLS is able to stay in business, but it's popularity is below NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, Nascar, and golf in terms of viewership and attendance.

To be fair, the MLS isn't trying to compete with the bigger leagues, at least not yet. They know they are small, and are carefully expanding. Their salary caps are tiny and even with 2 designated players (players allowed to be paid more than the maximum salary for the league and do not count against the cap), they don't attract huge stars. Let's look at the US' new "star player" Yedlin. He makes $80,000 a year on Seattle. Messi makes 16 million EUROs a year at Barcelona.

I agree this isn't anywhere close to the most popular thread, even in OT.

Yedlin is also only on his second year as a pro. It's not really fair to compare him to Messi...when don't veteran high profile goal scorers earn more than even the best right backs (aside from being one of, if not the best player in the world)?

Still, yes, Yedlin is probably underpaid compared to a second year starting right-back on some League One side, much less any major Euro league.

As you say, while MLS is expanding slowly and carefully, their salary caps and minimums aren't keeping up with that growth. MLS's average attendance per game is actually better than NBA and NHL. However, they obviously play far fewer games than either sport, so total attendance is still minuscule in comparison.

The money is in the TV contracts. MLS has 7 year deal for $720million total.

NHL is $2 Billion over 10 years.

NBA i think is roughly 8 years $7.5B - expiring soon.

NFL is $27B over 9 years.

PGA golf is at $280m per year, details aren't as open I don't think.
