Yeah, the electrical shock idea has very little merit to me.

It was very windy, and the crash damage does not look like much, so I do wonder how he had a concussion from it.

As some writers have noted, we will have to wait and see if Alonso returns for the Malaysia race.

If he cannot, then that will be cause to wonder what really happened to Alonso and his car.

Absence (petit mal) seizure.

maybe. reading up on petit mal on wikipedia, for what it's worth, leads me the think epilepsy is a possibility:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Absence_seizure
Absence seizures are characterized by a brief loss and return of consciousness, generally not followed by a period of lethargy (without a notable postictal state).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postictal_state
The postictal state is the altered state of consciousness after an epileptic seizure. It usually lasts between 5 and 30 minutes, but sometimes longer in the case of larger or more severe seizures and is characterized by drowsiness, confusion, nausea, hypertension, headache or migraine and other disorienting symptoms. Additionally, emergence from this period is often accompanied by amnesia or other memory defects.

Fernando Alonso 'thought he was in 1995' after pre-season crash
Asked who he was, what his job was, and what he hoped to do with his life, Alonso reportedly replied: “I'm Fernando, I drive go karts and I want to be a Formula One driver."

now this conjecture contradicts what his doctors have said, and i prefer my guess of a car defect contrary to what mclaren have said.

i am not at all a doctor - that's just something i tell drunk girls.

He didn't put a rear wheel on the astroturf in the turn and lose control. We can see that from the series of still pics.

You'd think he'd walk away from that crash, whatever the reason for hitting the wall.

The impact was parallel to the wall.

It really doesn't look like much of a crash, and I know very well that a minor crash can end up being very serious.

I just hope Alonso is okay and will return soon.

A report that Alonso, 33, thought it was 1995 and he was still in go-karting when he regained consciousness was dismissed as "nonsense" by his manager Flavio Briatore.

But Briatore said the circumstances of last month's crash in Barcelona, which concussed Alonso and gave him at least temporary memory loss, were "very strange".

"I saw footage, which Bernie Ecclestone sent me, where we see that the impact is not so hard," Briatore told Sky Italia.

"(Ferrari's Sebastian) Vettel is behind, he passes, and you see Fernando crashes without any apparent reason.

"We have to see if there is a steering problem. We have not had any information on that from McLaren."

Ok so I think sadly, as mentioned earlier, it seems that www.fantasyracers.com is no longer allowed to run a Formula 1 fantasy league, as they only show things like Formula E and MotoGP on their site now.

I googled other F1 fantasy league sites and they all seem to be pay sites What a stupid shame

I suppose our only other option would be to contemplate making some predictions here and it could just be a much, much more simplified system. (unless someone wants to be ambitious). The website's system was not necessarily complex, and many of the intricacies I would say are not needed at all, but updating the scores at every race would require some dedication.

Perhaps if there is enough interest for a friendly showdown of predictions I could set up a simplified system. I would just make sure to get it up and listed before lights out on the first race of the season in Australia.

I propose the following rules:

For the duration of the season, every one of us choses two drivers from different teams.
We get however many WC-points those two amass.
Additionally, per race you can gain one point each for:
guessing the pole sitter
guessing the first retirement
guessing the most-improved driver (finishing positions)

I think that's a pretty simple ruleset, preventing people from just double-picking the Merc team, and having both per-race and per-season aspects, which make you actually follow those drivers along the season.

I suppose a third driver pick would be another option to complicate things, as well as more per-race issues (first stewards penalty, anyone? :-D).

If anyone has any input to those kinds of rules, I'd be interested. We're on slightly short notice, but I think we can come up with something simple and fun.

I'm sending this post to Bernie Ecclestone right now. You should be getting a cease and desist shortly.

2 rounds of driver picks, 1-2-3-4, 4-3-2-1
all picks frozen at lights out, except q1 for pole, end of qualifying for 1st safety car
drivers' points - the sum of your 2 drivers
1 pt - most improved from starting place to finish
1 pt - guess the pole sitter
1 pt - guess the 1st retirement
1 pt each - guess the 1st penalty driver/infraction/punishment
1 pt - guess the 1st safety car lap number

*red flag bonus!!!*
bet x points on guessing the red flag lap number

*eric clapton bonus!*
bet x points on guessing there was an eric clapton celebrity shot (during race only)

Just saw Ian Cutress link to this:
http://badgergp.com/fantasygp/
on his Twitter https://twitter.com/IanCutress/status/576028694524911616 (which somewhat obnoxiously litters the AT mainpage).

So far it looks like it's free, excepting some SSO-link to google/facebook/Twitter.

It looks somewhat simpler than last years approach or the one we could work out ourselves, but handing over management to someone else is probably a good idea?

I suppose I'll wait until FP3 before I finalize a team, but this looks like a good solution?

Anyone watch P1/2 this morning? As usual, Mercedes was quick, but more interesting was McLaren/Honda not putting anything on the track (still problems with seals, apparently) and Sauber's legal issues.
