Eh, doesn't Hamilton generally stink in Austria anyway? Besides, he even said Nico ran a good race. The poor start put him a position that Nico running a good race made it impossible for him to pass. He has had some poor starts of late. Maybe he is right?


Sadly, the most exciting fights in the race were not even close to contention of Mercedes. =( Can we get some competition for Nico and Lewis please?

Austria is a terrible track for passing -- one of the worst!

I don't know how long Austria will be included in the series but if it were up to me I'd have eliminated it already!

Looks like Williams made a step up and Ferrari has slipped down to third.

The enforcement of the cars must remain on the track rule is OK by me but there are a couple places where the lines probably need to be further out. It will be interesting to see how they enforce this in the race as many if not most will fall afoul of the rule sometime during the race. Again, I think the lines in a couple places should be a little further out or the curbs moved in.

I don't see how that isn't a valid tactic. When to pit and how much you can get out of tires and such is a big part of the race, as is pitting when your opponent does. Mercedes "faking" a stop is just strategy. I don't see it as anything particularly malicious. Similar to having 2 or 3 guys stand over a free kick and the first couple run past it without hitting it.

it's not a valid tactic because it has been specifically against the rules for a long time now. however, it is valid for them to change their mind and cancel a pit stop, which is how the rule gets abused regularly.

Well, I agree. It's a good tactic. Except that it's banned. Primarily because it's a safety violation and an unnecessary risk to the pit crew.

Personnel are only allowed in the pit lane immediately before a pit stop and must withdraw to their garages as soon as their work is complete.

Most forms of racing have this sort of rule. You can't go out onto pit lane unless you are making a pit stop.

Nascar is the strictest, I think. Can't go out onto pit lane until your car is actually coming down pit lane and close to your pit stall.

Well the Hungaroring certainly gave us a great race, full of surprises.

Didn't expect much, but got a great race.

Amazing how Hamilton can throw away a race twice, and still finish ahead of Rosberg.
The luck of a champion.

This race also showed what keeping it clean can do for you, Alonso's fifth is a testament to that.

And finally, Vettel again showed what makes him a four times world champion. He took his opportunity at getting in front, and then put in the fast laps he needed.
Shame about Raikönnen's technical issue, but until then he had a strong race. Renault are probably quite happy, filling out three of the top dour positions. Sure, it isn't a power-circuit, but reliability-wise they did well.

Finally, a thought for the Hülk. He had a decent quali, a great start, and was looking at a solid points finish, when suddendly the car decides it's so hungry, it has to eat its own nose.

And I couldn't help but smirk when Perez and Maldonado collided.
