Exciting bit of news worthy to start the new 2016 thread!

Magnussen in - Maldonado Out at Renault/

If this turns out to be true it will be proper justice for Kevin Magnussen and Formula 1 as a whole!

Magnussen completely deserves the drive while "Crashtor" Maldonado has been the worst possible pay driver that, although entertaining, truly did not belong in F1 on merit. I think Kevin and Jolyon Palmer will make a great team pairing.

Yeah. Someone started an official F1 thread!
Anyway, yeah...I thought Renault would kick Maldonado out regardless of payment delinquency. He's just bad for the sport. Now they have two promising drivers.

Maldonado's Top Ten Crashes/

Man even with his reputation it is still a shock to be reminded just how much destruction he has caused and he definitely has had a big impact on numerous title races. He definitely impacted all the top racer's title chances in a significant way on more than one occasion over multiple seasons.

Renault showed off their new livery - looks pretty nice, though a few more splashes of yellow would be nice. Too many black cars on the grid these days....

Agreed. And though it may in fact turn out to be insignificant. Black cars are always hotter in the sun then any other color, so it always crosses my mind why they would give themselves that disadvantage of going all black when they are always struggling for cooling.

One reason black is common is that it makes a great background for the advertisers art. When it costs about $300M/year to field two competitive cars on the grid you need to offer the sponsors the canvas they want.

I seriously doubt that color of the car makes a whit of difference to engine cooling. Those engines generate so much heat that absorbed heat from the bodywork would be insignificant in comparison.

The problems with cooling are usually because of exhaust routing or the size of the openings for the radiators (aerodynamicists want them as small as possible and bodywork as close to the engine as possible).

Also, black surface radiate heat more efficiently as well, so if your bodywork gets more energy from inside than out, the blackness may actually be beneficial - albeit to a minuscule degree.

Wehrlein has got a seat at Manor - I wonder if he'll learn to contain his temper...

Although gold is spendy and heavy it's commonly used as heat shielding and I wouldn't be surprised if many/most of the cars on the grid had gold heat shielding around the engine/exhaust components. I doubt they'd need more than a gram or two.

Alright AT Garage, I figure it was time to create our new TEAM Championship for the 2016 round at Badger GP like we did last year.

The Team League code is: 6745296

You should have to just enter it here: Badger Team League

Also the points system has changed a tiny bit from last year, should be fun!

On another note, I think that I so far approve of the new Halo cockpit protection concept that was finally tried out on Kimi's car.

I think it looks ridiculous.

That frontal roll bar could make seeing an uphill turn kind of tough. Might make Spa very interesting!

May as well go full enclosed at that point. Sure they are worried about the speed increase that would most likely come along with that.

I can't wait! This certainly isn't the V10 days but regardless they are tech marvels and I love watching them race. Just not as fun to crank up the home theater with the turbos.

So the new quali format made it even more boring than it used to be.

Whilst I think more progressive knock-outs make for more track action, you should probably have more qualification stages instead of these weird 90 seconds intervals that really don't work.

Wow, not much left of Alonso's car, but he walked away.

Wildest F1 crash I've seen in a long time.

Red flag.

Alonso's crash has reinforced the halo idea.
I think they also suspended the weird quali format.
