I missed a small portion, what happened to Stroll? Why didn't he finish?

I agree, that was a nice race in Bahrain.
I'm not putting much credence in Al Onso Jr. having any kind of impact at Indy.
Frankly, I wonder why Honda are still putting up with him. Vettel (both at RB and Ferrari) was already quite tough to stomach, when the car wasn't going his way, but Alonso just keeps flaming Honda, like some spoilt child. Yes, he's bitter that Ferrari turned a corner, just after he left, and he's disappointed with the McLaren's performance - but come on... Might even make Button's old bitter-face refreshing for a change, come Monaco.

But the good news is that the racing is so far a lot like early 2013: Mercedes are blazingly fast in qualy, but Vettel has the more balanced car and takes the fight to the line. That half a second difference in qualy still had me worried though, that Mercedes would just run away with it. That's still a MASSIVE gap.

Oh, and thanks to Perez' amazing recovery, I really only had to rue Sainz' brain fart and Kvyats mediocre performance, for making TR net me 0 points. I might drop them for Renault, who are really starting to shape up nicely.

What's surprising, is how badly Kimi is doing so far. After last season, I was hoping he'd at least keep pushing Vettel, but it appears, that whenever Seb has a car that can win, he also has the luck and skill to make that car win -- no need for any additional pushing. If this performance continues, we might see Perez in the Ferrari next season.

Alonso is a great driver, this is entirely on Honda and McLaren for giving one of the best drivers in the sport a car that is utter shit.

I'd like to see Verstappen in a better car. He's a driver who could challenge Vettel or Hamilton. I don't see Bottas beating Hamilton and Kimi doesn't seem to be able to get the best out of that Ferrari.

So, for the first time in 3 years, there isn't a Mercedes on the front row - and Hamilton got edged out by Bottas in quali as well.
Now, I wonder how the race will turn out tomorrow, but the flashbacks to 2013 are getting ever stronger...

Man hope we get to see this battle every race weekend. Best qualifying session in a long while. Was hoping Kimi would pull it out, unfortunately just missed it. Will be hard for Merc to take the win now as Ferrari seem to have been easier on their start tires, assuming the order stays the same after the first corner.

And Mercedes takes the win with Vettel coming in second and Raikkonen in third.

Glad to see Bottas get his first victory in F1. He made a brilliant start coming from third on the grid to first past Vettel on the left into turn one and then held on from there. I think Ferrari left Vettel out too long on the first stint but they were planning on him having the fresher tires at the end of the race and it almost paid off but Bottas drove a great race and deserved the win.

Hamilton has to have a little bit of doubt now about how the rest of the season will play out. Bottas out qualified him and won the race. Hope to see more races like this with both Ferraris and both Mercedes fighting for victories. I really enjoyed this one.

Yea unfortunately Merc out launched both the Ferrari's, exactly what I didn't want to happen lol. But it's still great to see things so tight up front finally. Winning by 0.6 sec is a whole lot more exciting than 30+ sec Merc 1-2 victories the last couple years.

Well, I guess this race wasn't too bad for what the track has historically given us.
Losing Verstappen in the first corner was a bit of a tragedy, I was hoping for him to fight with either Bottas or Raikönnen - but that entire fight completely fell apart by Bottas wanting to make up on the apex, what he lost under braking.

Ferrari also messed this one up with the strategy - pitting too early, and costing Vettel around 5 seconds behind Bottas, and then pitting AFTER THE VSC JUST ENDED! Even Mercedes messed that call up - pitting as the VSC was ending surely cost Hamilton the time he needed to make passing Vettel decisive, instead of having to pass on track. Ferrari then started thinking about pitting Vettel a third time, just as the window was closing for another stop. On the other hand, I don't think he would have been able to overtake Hamilton on that track.

Brilliant bit of overtaking from Vettel on Bottas though.

Alonso confused me all race long - qualified up high, then obviously losing positions, but at the end, he got past the Williams again.

Fantasy-F1 wise, I forgot putting in my predictions, but otherwise, except for Massa, Kimi and Bottas, I did reasonably well: Checo got a bunch of points and bonuses, Toro Rosso had a double points finish, Grosjean managed to somewhat recover from a botched quali, and Mercedes and Ferrari were at the front. Still, losing those two cars cost me a bunch of points, to someone who has money on FI.

All in all entertaining, if not as exciting as it could have been on many other tracks, with there really only being a need to be fast on the straight on position yourself well into T1 to defend against almost any overtake.

I enjoyed the race. Plenty of excitement and Hamilton had to work hard for that win.

Hope Monaco is as good.

Damn that Sainz Jr.! His move cost me massively, taking out Massa and a Toro Rosso at the same time. Sure, Massa was going nowhere fast anyway, but the Toro Rossos could have been in it for some points, given how well Kvyat was doing until he got double-penalized...

Ok the last couple of races have been great! And Baku, (having been quite the snorefest last year), this time is now being called one of the top 10 best races of this millennium.

Oh cool you can create a clickable spoiler button in these message Won't bother here as I it's already been several days since the race.

A lot of retirements and crazyness for all kinds of reasons. Vettel's road rage cost him the victory and 3 more points on his super license, he is close to a race ban now. Hamilton's head rest of all things cost him an easy victory. Stroll turning his career around by getting a podium. Bottas throwing one up the inside from WAY far back on the last straight to pass an unsuspecting Stroll for 2nd by 0.1s.

I had picked Kyviat as he was looking great here but had electronics failure. And yet another failure for Verstappen who is getting quite fed up at this point. Are we sure he doesn't have a Honda in the back of his car?

Kimi again getting all the bad luck. Happy for Ricciardo getting his 5th win after a terrible start.[/Spoiler]

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking. Road rage is the perfect term for that display of stupidity too. He's lucky he didn't get a more harsh punishment.

Hamilton was just controlling the pace at the restart and he was already told to back off a bit more on the restart because he almost passed the safety car on the prior one.

I don't know what happened to Stroll. He had 2nd place locked up and it looked like he just lifted a bit too early which allowed Bottas to get by.

So, Sauber dropped Honda and came crawling back to Ferrari, but without the "last-year's engine"-clause, for at least 2 more years.
Smells like end of the line for Honda, if McLaren can get a deal with Brixworth. The latter may even be somewhat likely, not the Merc is moving to Formula E. They could still pull the plug on Brackley, or sell it to an interested party at a solid price. Just look at Porsche, who will pull out of the WEC after just 4 seasons, and likely winning three overall titles, and winning Le Mans three times.
Anyway, Hungary Quali starts any moment now, so I best check my predictions

Nice gesture by Hamilton to let his teammate by at the end there to give back the position Bottas gave up 13 or so laps earlier so Hamilton could get after Raikkonen. I was hoping Raikkonen would get past Vettel but it is so hard to pass at this track.

Today's race was a brilliant example of "How to throw your championship dream away in turn one of the race you love".
With Hamilton winning, this may be the season basically over.

Agreed. Gotta love Vettel and Raikkonen both squeezing Verstappen in a Ferrari sandwich and taking all three out. I actually felt bad for Verstappen.

Heck, how about Alsono? He'd made a heck of a run to the first corner...darned near into 5th or better, only to get accidentally taken out.

Cool crash, tho.
