Well the market looks to be in a holding pattern again. NUGT provided some nice short opportunities. Yellen expected to raise the prime rate .25% on 3/15/17. Political instability in Europe will also been in play.

You have interest rate sell pressure on gold but then you have the elections in Ireland and France that might upset the shorts and cause a spike in Gold.

Good time to write covered calls.

and oddly..people are starting to say gold/miners will skyrocket afterward..which is the exact opposite they normally say with rate hikes. So confused.

i have some old coins, chinese art... and a stradivarius violin

you, louis redfoot, noob of ATOT, has 1 of what--20 or 30 stradivari known to exist in the world?

:Colbert:

edit: just looked it up: seems there are about 512 violins known to exist. There is a 20-30 number for some of those, but I forget what that is for.

The real question is how many here have money saved in excess of $50k patiently waiting for the stock market to crash?

That's where the real money is going to be made. Off the pain and misery of other people. $50k invested during the $2007-08 crash would had netted you a million plus. Buffet talks about being the hunter and having an elephant gun on your hip. Many people have made their millions in crashes. When everyone is pulling out, that's when you want to go all in.

Real estate market is no different. Why buy a rental for $350k when I know that the market is going to falter? You go back to that same rental that was being sold for $350k and offer the seller $200k. Take it or leave it. Again, if you had the cash on hand during the 2007-08 crash you could had made a fortune buying real estate from the owners who were selling out of desperation.

so you're waiting for the next great depression? i can sense the indicators but just not sure about the timing. right now i'm mostly cash (aside from above mentioned art collection), condo paid for, no other payments. there will always be turkey sandwiches and yellow tail wine.

SNAP is trying to make a comeback but got snapped back to $22 and change. There was an article that a previous offer from Facebook would value the company at $14 a share (although in the past they were also supposed to buy Twitter).

Will SNAP return to previous highs? Or will it simply snap and go to $14?

The stock symbol kind of reminds me of the fun had with Taser. Anytime they screwed up and the stock price fell as a result, the usual headline was "Taser gets zapped!"

been using snapchat for a week, i like it... it's a really fun and useful messaging platform. as a business, this alone is not enough. they say they are getting into hardware (camera glasses, drones...) so up to you if you trust that. i'll keep using the app, but no stock investment here.

Snap will have the same issue Twitter has had, they don't know how to monetize it. Facebook had that problem too but they figured it out. I don't think either of those platforms lend themselves to advertising the same way that FB does.

I think Snapchat's target audience is hormone filled people under 18.

but that demographic don't have much $.

also, waiting for the Snapchat hacker leak of tweens

Sadly, most sites get hacked either by employees, outsiders or both. Since more and more people dont have a sense of decency or modesty like they used to, they go online in what they think is a private exchange get naked, etc. This has already happened to SNAP, called the "snappening" which was filled with tween snaps. This has apparently been a problem for SNAP for years https://www.google.com/search?q=snap+cp&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8#q=snapchat+underage

But back to the stock itself, I think it will fall under $20 soon and stay there until the first public earnings report.

Posted 2/25/17...

my neighborhood gas station lowered the price from $2.25/gal to $2.20 overnite.

time to triple short oil (again)?

As of 3/12/17....

As it turns out shorting oil was a good move so far, as oil stocks have been getting slammed, down 10%+ recently on average. Oil futures are off another 1% this evening. I was thinking this would not happen, but then I had no position either way.

Heads up that AMD was added back to the S&P 500. It rose quite a bit AH, and guessing it will hit $16 this week.

Also, Goldman bought up $613 million. That temporary fall last week (Executives & Mubadala basically selling off to collect their bonuses) has been erased.

I completely missed the 17% run in anti-miners today. No idea how tomorrow is going to go even though I am pretty sure there will be a rate hike.

Conversely, you also missed yesterdays 24% runup in NUGT.

I was lucky and bought at 8.15. Unluckily I sold too early at 8.69. Even more unluckily I bought shares, not options.
