Mandatory return to office seems to be engineered attrition.

Those 2yr and 10yr movements today... Hard landing incoming?

Apparently the stock market is doing okay. I hesitantly checked my retirement this morning after news of records yesterday. Highest everything has been, my 401k, Roth, and some bonds. If health care was free I could retire today, sigh.

Market going down. News of ECB holding for longer. It's a sign that the US will also hold rates longer. The market had already priced in rate cuts in 2024.

Lol at the "please rate cuts now" crowd. We want more rally! Rally monkey!

Hopefully the next inflation reading shocks the market with a surprise uptick. 😮

Sold >1 year worth of my salary of wife’s RSUs a month or so ago about 15% too low. Cool

At least we traded it directly for VTI so not a total loss. Also, a frighteningly large chunk of our net worth is still in that stock lol.

Some of my old company's stock I had via an ESPP finally sold since it hit the limit price today. Wasn't enough to make it worth holding for the 2 year holding period, and I wanted to end that small tax tracking annoyance this year, when it could still end up on a W2 that I'll be issued.

Is the whole RSU taxed as income or just the gains?

Ayy the bulk of my retirement is back in the green.

TL;DR -- changed companies in 2021, moved my 401k into a new account in Feb of 22 -- you can imagine how well that went lol.

The last of my three 401Ks turned green for the year (don't roll over, no fees). Don't really look too much into any of my retirement accounts since my individual brokerage is by far the bulk of my savings.

It was a bargain at $30. Its going up because they say they are making AI chips, but its likely too little too late. Intel is always late to the game.

I did my part to contribute to Intel's quarterly report. Im still using the same Sandy Bridge 2700K cpu, upgrading what I could throughout the years. The architecture has been adequate for what I do.

However I wanted to ditch the desktop for mobile with this upgrade 12 years overdue. I bought a slim ASUS 16X laptop on sale with an Intel 13700H CPU / Nvidia 4050 GPU and upgraded the ram to 32GB, bought a docking station, power strip with 12 outlets, still need to get disk dock for external local backups. The new CPU benchmarks about 450% faster than the old Sandy Bridge.

The laptop is not the primary yet as I dont have things fully sorted yet, still need to buy office and figure out how to do local backups. I've been relying on Norton Ghost 15 for years but want a more modern solution.

Your last two posts sure had a chilling effect on the S&P. It stopped rising both days afterwards.

Looks like a record close is possible today/tomorrow. A record intraday high could happen Friday. Then I would bet on a general selloff in January. Of course, predictions like this are never very accurate but I still like to think about them.

To the top of the record!
Ok but did everybody's mutual funds, etf funds and other funds rise back up to their previous highs? Some that haven't could be funds that included just one or two or none of the Magnificent Seven so as a result their share price is behind their all time high.

And of course there are many other reasons like funds that were not weighted in this or that type of stocks.

People who muddle in their funds tend to do far, far worse than the market as a whole. This includes people who are day traders, market timers, gamblers, inept, scared, too conservative, too aggressive, etc. So, to answer your question, many people did NOT rise back up to their previous highs.

But if you do the simple, tried-and-true advice to just stick to S&P funds (such as Warren Buffet's suggestion to just put 90% of your money in a low-cost S&P 500 fund), then you probably are close to back. You'll be down whatever fees you paid. But, you'll be up anything that you invested in the last 2 years as you would have bought low and they will have increased.
