I'm ordering one of these as soon as one of the places online I trust has them in stock.

I've got 2 of the wd drives to go with it already.

anybody know how well/if abit's 'serillel' tech works with plextor burners?

AFAIK the adapters shipped with this board are the first to claim ATAPI compatibility, so you get to be the guinea pig.

Just recieved confirmation from Zalman themselves....

Thank you for the interest in Zalman's product.

If you couldn't see your motherboard name in the"List of Mainboards that Interfere with CNPS7000", refer to the "CNPS7000's Heatsink Interfering with the Power Supply" which is explained at bottom side of the information.

P.S. CNPS7000 fits canterwood based ABit IC7-G, Intel D875PBZ and ASUS P4C800 (Deluxe) without any interferences.

Regards,
Jinkook Kim/ZALMAN

My only problem with the list is it does not tell you when/if it has been updated and what motherboard chipsets have been tested as well as what motherboard manufacturers. I mean, I agree that it is easier to list the group of boards that it does not work with, but at the same time you need to let people still know the upper limit as to the items tested, because you can not assume the limit is every motherboard ever made, and thus you can not know if the motherboard you are interested in really does work or not (especially the canterwood designs with the south bridge being practically on the CPU retention clip (no really look at the pics...its right up next to it, and the pics can't really tell you how high a heatsink/fan comes off the south bridge so you can not figure out if it is within the height limits of the Zalman).

Looks like I know what motherboard I am purchasing now. Fits all my requirements, CSA bus, Zalman CNPS7000, and good user control...ABIT here I come again.

I have one too, and mine just misses the northbridge fan by a fraaction of a mm. Tight fit and works fine.

Doesn't UPS give you estimated arrival date on their tracking site? They're usually pretty good at keeping those dates... Package handling on the other hand... :disgust:

Oh, hehe, Scheduled delivery today. But I did get an email that I dont really understand and could be bad:
Dear Customer:

Please be informed that item# 240119(MB ) was on back order and the
expected time of arrival (e.t.a.) from our vendor is 4/24/2003

And we have received the product and already shipped it out, the tracking
number will be email to you later on today.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

I dont know if its part of this package coming today (I ordered memory also) or not. They shipped it out on the 24th and it gave me the same tracking number for the memory and mobo.

It isn't UPS's fault; if the item wasn't actually shipped until the 24th the delivery date would be the 28th for 2-day delivery.

Just checked Newegg, the IC7-G shows in stock, $229.00 US.
Now I gotta decide which memory, thinking of the HyperX 3500 for $119.00 (512MB).
I know people recommend the Corsair but it's $20.00 more a stick (I need 2-512MB) and at these prices every bit counts.

Newegg has some of the pics and specs for the IC7 and IC7-G mixed up as of right now.

They will probably get it straightened out soon.

I got the HyperX.

Heres a round up of PC3500 sticks
This is how they rank the sticks:
Performance:
1st Mushkin PC3500
2nd Kingston HyperX3500/Corsair PC3500 C2
3rd Geil 3500

Price:
1st Geil PC3500
2nd Kingston HyperX3500/Corsair PC3500 C2
3rd Mushkin PC3500

Also had this to say:
The real duel was between Corsair and Kingston. The Corsair edges the Kingston out with high latencies, but the Kingston dominates the Corsair at low latencies.
And, UPS usually meets their scheduled delivery dates right?

I grabbed the 2-512 Kingston HyperX 3500 and the IC7-G-can't wait to get it set up.

Good thing I jumped, IC7-G sold out already!

Looks like they have the IC7 pictures under the IC7-G and vice-versa. I checked the Abit forums, according to the specs the "G" comes with a SATA-ATA adapter, the IC7 doesn't.

nod, re-read that. for some reason the word "specs" didn't stick in my mind. anywho, does anyone know, or have a guess, how the abit IC7-G and the MSI FISR will stack up against each other? the bios options on the MSI board kinda have me drooling right now after reading that review posted on the main news page. wish we could get a full-fledged IC7-G review(hint.. hint).

I would like to see a shootout between the Asus, Abit, Gigabyte, Aopen, Epox, and MSI.
One comparison I'd like to also see is stock settings, then increase FSB until they max out, then increase vcore, timings, and all the other things (stock HSF for both) until you max out again. Report at least max fsb and sandra memory bandwidth. Would anybody else like to see this comparison?

well, I would like to see the aopen, abit, and msi compared. the gigabyte is a little too steep in price for me. the epox doesn't include csa so even tho I know its a good overclocker it doesn't have one of the key features that I want. the asus, for some reason I just really don't care about this board.

I hope some of the mods are listening and maybe Anandtech will do a review of the IC7-G

My review of the IC7(-G) is up at AsusBoards. You can see it at Abit IC7(-G) Review

Unfortunately I have found a disturbing issue with memory timings:

"The Shifting Abit IC7 memory timings

Saw a brief mention of a potential issue with memory timings earlier, and the new CPU-Z was showing memory timings a little different than what I had set in MANUAL in BIOS. After a little investigation, it does indeed appear Abit is getting around the Canterwood memory timing issues with agressive memory by ignoring your manual settings - AND your SPD

This is 2x256MB Corsair 3200LL set to 2,5,2,2 at 190FSB Notice that the Abit BIOS has apparently shifted the timings to 2.5,6,2,2 - which is actually SLOWER than SPD. It looks like the BIOS may contain tables for the most common memory and may be setting timings Abit believes to be safe.

This is 2x512MB OCZ3500EL set to 2,5,2,2 at 188FSB The Abit shift here is even more severe - to 2.5,7,4,4 - again even slower than SPD.

I was quite puzzled when the Corsair memory tested faster than the OCZ, since the OCZ has been faster than Corsair on every other motherboard I have tested. I am no longer puzzled, but I do want an explanation from Abit AND A FIX. Abit's slogan is "Designed for Overclockers BY Overclockers." As an Overclocker I prefer to make my OWN decisions about memory timings - and I expect that what I set actually means something.

The upside of all this is virtually any memory will run on the Abit without worrying about timings. The downside is there is currently no way to set timings for fast memory, like OCZ EL, that will assure you get the most from that memory.

The IC7 is virtually the perfect Canterwood board at a simply excellent price - but the IC7 and IC7-G are flawed for the enthusiast until this memory timing issue is corrected. I believe it is fixable with a BIOS update, and Abit should provide an update sooner rather than later."

wow. I was really starting to lean towards the MSI board but now I'm not so sure. Still unclear as to whether or not the IC7 has built in lan or NO lan whatsoever. How much of a performance gain do you think you'd get with CSA enabled lan if you have 2 or 3 or more devices on your PCI bus? Also I saw mention in the MSI board review that it does support higher speeds of memory and core voltage up to 2.30. I couldn't really care about the extra sata and stuff that IC7-g comes with; mainly just the CSA. Let me know if ya have any suggestions/opinions on this.
