Mine shows up Tuesday morning, woot. I'm swapping out a p4sdx for the ic7-g and adding two of the sata raptor drives and a zalman cooler to replace the stock hsf on an intel 3.06(thing is insanely loud). Waiting for the next round of processors announcements/price cuts in May to pick on an 800Mhz part. Guess it is good that I run 3 computers 24x7 now that I've got a used p4sdx and an unopened P4C800. No more Asus boards for me until they produce a masterpiece.

IC7-G
P4-3.06
2x512 meg crucial/samsung PC3200
Radeon 9700Pro AIW
2xWD360 (RAID 0)
2xIBM 180GXP -- not sure if both are going in, or how I'm gonna use them, with two serillel, guess I could go RAID 0 with them on the 2ndary sata controller
Plextor plexwriter 48/24/48

I've got a game theatre xp I'll use if the onboard sound has any artifacts from interference inside the case. With the P4SDX, I can 'hear' when the hardrives and/or video card exert themselves, which is kind of annoying. What soundcards are people buying nowadays?---Other than audigy that is, I'll never put another creative soundcard in my computer, much less their craptastic bloatware.

All 3 of my machines are in variants of the Coolermaster ATC 201 case, I love this case. If you're looking for a solidly built aluminum case, all thumbscrew access, with great looks, check them out. I'll snap a pic of my bench when I'm done with the upgrades and stick it up here. The other 2 boxes are built around a p4 2.2, and an athlon 1.2.

I juggle 3 displays, an old sony-520GS 21" crt, and 2 sweet Samsung SyncMaster 191t panels. I really like the panels, but it'll be another couple generations before the pixel refresh is fast enough for everything I do, imho.

Here is the HardOCP review of the IC7-G.
One odd thing about our board is that it had a delay from the time you engaged the power button to the moment the system actually powered up. Sometimes this delay would be up to 5 seconds. Going back and talking directly to Intel about this, they mentioned that at one point in time that it was in fact part of the Canterwood chipset spec, but was not any longer. We advised ABIT of this and odds are you will be seeing this delay disappear in future revisions of the BIOS.

The power up delay only occurs from totally off, not sleep or soft-off. It's explained on the Abit site.

This image from Hardocp's review shows a "NB Fan" running at 6400 rpm. Am I right in assuming that it's referring to the board's north bridge fan, and that at such a speed, it would be loud? Can anyone who has the board confirm?

I'll have this board next week. That NB fan will be an issue that I'll have to fix. I have a Zalman ZM80A-HP on the way to replace the noisy arse fan on my 9700 Pro. My system is very quiet and I wont let that stupid NB HS ruin it. I also have a Zalman NB HS on the way. It looks similar in size to the Passive HS Intel uses I dont know if this will fit or work yet, but I'll give it a shot.

oldfart: You wouldn't happen to be using a Zalman CNPS 7000 would you? I am just wondering if a Zalman NB HS will fit with one...

No. I use an Alpha 8942 with a Panaflo L1A 80 mm fan (1900 RPM 24 CFM 21 dB) It cools great and is probably quieter than the Zalman setup. This is on an Albatron 845PE board. The IC7 will be here early next week.

Hello,
I recently took the plunge and ordered this MB as well. It was to replace an ASUS P4B266-C that came with my first P4, a 1.8a that has been running at 18x133 default voltage for about a year now, with 2x256mb crucial ddr at pc2100. I also upgraded my disks to 2 120gb Seagate SATA drives (would have used the raptors but I needed more sapce).

In the process of swapping out my video card died. I was using a PNY Geforce4 Ti4200, but am now using an old Matrox G200. I just picked up a radeon 9500 (Couldn't really wait for the 9600, also pretty good deal at $169), and am holding off for a few days on installing it.

The reason I ammholding off is that I also ordered some zalman kits, the 6500 copper processor cooler, the northbridge heatsink, and the video card cooler ZM80B-HP. I do have a few questions about all this new stuff...

1) The Seagate disks run pretty quiet, except when reading and writing. I am wondering if it might be the case and vibration, as I changed it out at the same time with an aluminum case from a pretty hefty steel Antec one. Are these disks just loud reading and writing or could it be the case?

2) I thought I would get better disk performance but my sandra scores are just above a PATA Raid 0 score... I partitioned the drive into 60gb and 180gb partitions and get a drive C index of 43177
and a drive D index of 46548. I am thinking it might be a driver/new chip/etc. issue, or am I just crazy expecting more?

3) The zalmans... Do you think the video card cooler will fit with the northbridge being that close to the AGP slot? I am going to replace the fan with the zalman northbridge heatsink, if that matters. I have a big 120mm fan and bezel blowing from over the CPU and northbridge (and partly the AGP slot) out the back of the case, and I think that should keep everything pretty cool. I do not plan on overclocking anything except the CPU as indicated above. Just hope everything will fit...

4) Anyone have any luck getting a PNY video card replaced? It says they have a lifetime replacement warranty, but I have tried to contact via email and phone message, and am not getting anywhere... no return calls or email.

Thanks for any help...

Dont know yet. I'll have all of this stuff next week sometime.

You mention a Zalman ZM80B-HP. Did you mean ZM80A , or is there a new version I haven't seen yet?

I meant the A, sorry about that. I knew there was a revision, and assumed it was "B" before checking... you know what they say, never AssUMe...

Let us know how it goes. I ordered an IC7 too, and I'm pretty sure I won't be able to stand the whining from that fan.

I'm using a CNPS7000 and it fits just fine on the ABIT 1C7.

-----

I'm familiar with all the reports of people having trouble with the new BIOS and losing the 2nd SATA drive in their RAID. Prometheus on the ABIT boards mentioned that these were just related to the IDE HDD that had the SATA adapter on them,. My question is has anybody heard of anyone using the Seagate or WD SATA drives and having similar problems? I have two Raptors and I really want to update, but not if it's going to mess with the RAID...

I have the Zalman NB HS. I can tell you right now that you won't be able to use it unless you epoxy it... The clip design with BH-7 was a bit more accomodating to use this NB HS, but I think I told you about this big fiasco I had, which ended up me putting the Zalman on BH-7 via AS epoxy...

Not what I wanted to hear. I'm sure I wont like the noise of the NB fan. I'll figure something out. Epoxy is not what I wanted to do.

I went to update my bios today and my floppy wouldn't work. Is anyone else's floppy drive not working?

For those of you concerned about the NB fan you might want to try a fan resistor or controller. It would be a bit easier to use than having to change out the entire northbridge and void your warranty with epoxy. The NB connects to a standard fan header so this shouldnt be any kind of problem, albeit the cooling performance of the Zalmans would be superior.

Mines working fine, maybe you should try flipping the cable in the drive. Also, you have to put the floppy as drive A: in the bios your self, by default there is no drive A:.

I was thinking the same thing. But does anyone have any comments on how noisy that NB fan is?
