Those are definitely about the lowest rpm fans around so it must not be all low rpm fans. Possibly just enermax ones. But I am pretty sure the fan that caused me problems on my last P4 Abit motherboard was a antec fan. This problem is probably not evident in all motherboards just a couple.

Ordering a zalman 7000 for the new abit board and wanted to ask how is the northbridge
fan attached? Can I replace it with a zalman passive without using thermal tape? Holes
or some other type of mounting..

thanks for the help

Thank you very much for the link.
Will put one of them on the order
This helps a lot

That is a fine looking setup.

I might go with a Corsair HydroCool 200 if they do as good as was reported on oc.com
Right now the Zalman 7000 looks like a good one for quiet. And if I get a zalman on my video
card maybe I can hear my HD heads LOL

hmmm....

I'm officially lost... if this instability isn't a somewhat commonly reproducable issue, we may never see a fix...

Yipii!!! My stuff is all here: The IC7-G, a 3.0G Canterwood, a Gigabyte 9800 Pro, 2 sticks of Corsair 512Mb XMS3500 Platinums, and 2 Barracuda 80G SATA HDs. It'll rock if everything works.

Can someone who has been through the experience of putting it all together just recap the order; what Bios, Bios settings, and drivers to use, and what things to look out for. After I pull the existing MoBo from my case it'll be a while before I can get back in here to ask for help.

Thanks in advance!

I was running my Kingston HyperX PC3500 at DDR400 with 2-2-2-5 and 2.7V in bios, but I backed down cause my CPU would only run at 160FSB with too much voltage for my liking.

Which memory

getting a 2.6 and want to run it at 3.0+

thanks big time

Etrin

You cant go wrong with either. But, Mushkin has a special right now on Promo 256MB PC3200 222 sticks thats pretty good deal compared to their normal price. HyperX PC3200 (222 also) is a few dolars more than the Mushkin Promo sticks.

But, the HyperX PC3500 will run faster than the Mushkin PC3200.

killerbob,

be sure to flash the newest bios before you install anything on a sata raid array.... learned that one the hard way... oh well, with the raptors and the proccy, it takes less than 20 minutes to install windows...

dont try anything fancy until you install EVERYTHING... then start pushing that fsb...

with a 3.0 you can probably get the "turbo" mode etc. to work... so might try that one...

remember to disable all the items you dont use on the mobo... like usb, parallel, com, etc.

download the newest drivers from abit, dont use the ones on your cd...

if at all possible download the newest version of iaa and install it with windows instead of using the default driver disk included.

good luck, I love the board... hopefully you will too!

Can someone help me clarify which memory (PC 3500) works best with the IC7? I've been reading around and if I remember correctly, a few people reported issues with Corsair.

So which RAM should I buy, being that Newegg carries Corsair for a few bucks more?

The Corsair xms3500c2 works great.

PRAISE THE LORD AND PASS THE BANDWIDTH

looks like Abit finally got to the bottom of it... I'm wondering if the slow reving of the TMD up to its 6-7k rpm was messing with that monitoring system at all... that is exactly one of the problems i was having.

I cant wait to install this. its not beta. its on their main site now

put the bios files and awflash files onto a floppy; reboot and press "altF2" at the initial boot screen; the utility will do the rest.

I flashed to bios 13, but I flashed back to 11 because it wasnt detecting my HD (using seriell adapter) and it would hang for 1 min at the post screen.

i flashed mines and it works with the serillel2 adapter, maybe you have to enable ide bus master in the bios.

Thanks. Another question, I downloaded all these files from Abit sometime back for my IC7-G and I am just wondering which ones do I need and what ones are useless:

1102.exe
10028.exe
HWM_IC7.EXE
iaar30_enu.exe
infinst_autol.exe
load105.exe
load114.exe
wdm_a343b.exe (I think this is the realtek sound driver thingy)
Flashmenu120.exe (I think this is a bios flasher)

If there are any other files I need please let me know. Here is what my config is gona look like:

I am installing Win XP Pro SP1. I am not going to use Raid since I have just one drive (WD1800JB), and I plan on using onboard sound. I have a SBLive MP3+ but I don't know if it will be any better than the onboard sound. Standard USB mouse, PS2 Keyboard (I may just go usb with that also), Old MS Sidewinder game pad and Gravis Exterminator USB pad. CD Burner and DVD drive. That is about it, I don't plan on putting anything else fancy in this.

Any compelling reason to get another serillel2 adapter and put the ata drives on the si controller, if I DON'T want RAID them?

How painful is it re-enable winxp after a complete reinstall? I just installed that copy+license about a month ago, curious if I'm gonna have to be on the phone with MS.

I think you can three or four times before you need to call.

Wurrmm: I don't recognize most of those files; would recommend you download the new bios 1.3 and the awflash program and put them on a floppy!

@virtuamike: thx, the usb file worked.

I still use the 10 bios and will wait a bit too see if the next bois is fixing most issues. My rig is ok now apart from the fact that if i put my fan on "fan only" power plug, the rig will sometimes shut down 4 secs after post. So i use a standard power plug now.
