is there a such thing as the Abit IC7-S? or is that just Abit IC7 board?

and is the price difference of the IC7 over the IC7-G worth it? i mean what exactly are the differences?

i was going to go with an amd systems with the asus a7n8x board...but now ive read that 400mhz ddr ram actually can be used to its full capabilities on this board b/c of the 800mhz fsb?

HUGE PROBLEM!!!!

Immediately after installing XP pro, I installed my network driver and then copied over the SP1 from my other comp. Then I ran SP1. However after the logon, the comp hard locks!! EVERYTIME!!! I have done this 4 times!!! Does anyone know what I should do??

2.8GHz w/HT enabled
2x512 Corsair PC3500C2 at 400mhz 2-3-3-6 2.6v
WD1800JB on Serillel 2 set as IDE 1
Plextor CDRW on IDE 2 with Pioneer DVD slaved
GF3 Ti500
Intelimouse Explorer on USB
OfficeXP keyboard on PS2 port

This really sucks!!! :disgust::frown:

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!
I decided to try booting without the serillel 2 adaptor...and bingo!!! Super fast boot up. Something in SP1 did something that led to this. This is really annoying. The adaptor was one of the things that sold me on this mobo. But...I will live....
. Now on to the fun stuff...installing all my other junk and playing with my memory timings.

Is anyone here running a large >137GB HD on the serillel2??

The DFI and Abit boards both got superbs ratings from dfi and abit and more reviews and im quit struck bc im not going to overclock my board anyway and the dfi ran a lil bit faster at default speeds and comes with more stuff so its between the Abit ic7-G or the DFI lanparty pro875 or the new Gigabyte 8KNXP non ultra... lol tufff choice

HOLY FAST!!! Loving this thing......copying all my backup stuff over my network now......instaling the basics......

Now that Windows is fully up and running my CPU is idleing at ~30C. My HD is actually ~30C also.

Hey...has anyone here who owns this thing put the Abt sticker or the Intel Inside sticker on your case???

I plan to use 2 sticks of 512mb Kingston Hyper-X DDR433 on this board but will it be able to run at DDR400 with 2-2-2-6 timing ???

I know that they support 2-3-3-6@DDR433...

I don't know what's wrong with my rig? The most aggressive RAM settings I can use (and get into WinXP) are CAS 2, APD 5, R to C 3, and RP 3. Is there anything you guys do to run with the better settings? I'm running the P4 3.0G at default settings, and my RAM is Corsair XMS3500.

Ahhh. The problem I have is with the IDE DVD RW on the IDE controller. My Barracudas are on the SATA Raid0 connections, and I am having BSODs, from vanilla installation of WinXP Pro, whenever I try and burn CDs, DVD, on either my Sony IDE RW or my Plextor SCSI CD RW.

I remember reading that people were having conflicts between cd burning software (Nero, I believe) when used at the same time the Intel application accelerator (RAID drivers) were installed.

Odd, you can activate SATA 1 and SATA 2 (intel controller) as IDE 3 and IDE 4 (no raid), but you can not install ANY version of the Intel App Accelerator. You can ONLY install the RAID version if you enable the RAID BIOS.

Anyone else notice this?

I'll vouch for that. I had to RMA my first two IC7-G's (Abit's quality control is NOT what it use to be). NewEgg is great, esp for RMA.s

what bios version do you have?

I am running Bios 13, and the rest of my rig is:

Abit IC7-G / P4 C 3G / SLK-900
2x512Mb Corsair XMS3500
Gigabyte ATi 9800 Pro
2x80G Seagate Barracuda SATA in Raid0 on Intel controller
Adaptec 2940UW SCSI w. 2 Plextor CD RWs
SB Audigy II
IBM GXP-60 on IDE 1
Sony DRU-510A DVD RW on IDE 2
Lots of stuff on USBs
WinXP Pro w. SP1 / Norton SystemWorks 2003

The second I set "R to C", or "RP", to 2, I get BSOD before logging into WinXP. I have not changed anything in the BIOS to "aggressive" settings. Sound is disabled, as is the Silicon controller, and System and Video BIOS are cached. The temps I have in WinXP (in a hot room) are 32 deg. for system, 51.5 deg. for CPU, and 36 deg. in PSU.

I am happy with the speed, but would like to start OCing a bit, as well as get the most from my RAM.
