hey all I don't know if this was already answered or not (search ended up with zilch), but is the onboard sound of the ABIT IC7/G comparable to that of the nForce2 soundstorm? It looks like it uses the same thing for both (Realtek something something).

Another Q: Does the southbridge need cooling?

I don't know what else I should do to solve this crackling noises problems that I have with my rig.

I have my audigy 2 card in pci #4 - irq @22, but it was in pci #5 before and the result was the same. I have already reinstalled XP with acpi disabled and the sound card using irq #5, I'm really not sure if the sound is better, maybe a little but it's not perfect.

I have 2 games where the problem is easy to be found: quake 3 (pass quickly the mouse between the options of the main menu), nascar racing 2003 (apply full throtle and dont change the gear).
Mp3 seems to be OK, at least I didn't notice anything wrong until now.
I tried to disable sound acceleration without success.
I saw a lot of people complaining about this in the forums around the internet.

Maybe is Win xp problem, maybe an audigy driver problem ( I'm using the new one but with the original the sound is a little better), maybe an abit incompatibility.Who knows?

Those of you ,who doesn't have this problem, please post a reply telling where is your sound card ( slot - irq) and how did you installed xp,bios setting, etc:

Thanks a lot in advance and sorry for the pour english.

What power supply are you using? When I first set up my 2.4c on the Ic7 I wasn't able to overclock at all. Then I figured out from reading the forums that my 400 watt PSU didn't have the second power connector needed by the mobo. I bought a 550watt antec true power PSU and now its running at 295 FBS for 3.55, a 47.5% overclock =).

BTW how do you change your sig? I cna't seem to figure it out and I feel like a Noob!

hey,

I have a Antec true 480 PS for my rig. To change your sig go to profile at the top. Nice overclock! you're lucky!

I've been having problems with my IC7 and Power Color Radeon 9700NP ever since I set up my rig about two months ago. The infamous driver ati2dvag for the display device...got stuck in an infinite loop. I lived with this problem up until now as I resisted what seemed like the only solution of changing my AGP8x to 4X and also turning off Fast Writes. I really thought I would take a big hit in performance, or even a moderate hit; boy was I wrong. Anyway.... It happened enough that I got fed up and decided to bump my Vid Card down to 4X AGP and disable Fast Writes, which it currently is in Windows XP.

But here?s my Question. In the ATI Control Panel, I have the card set to 4X and Fast Writes: OFF. After I did this, I restarted my pc and went into the IC7 1.6 BIOS, Advanced Chipset Settings and changed my AGP setting from the default of 8X to 4X. then I restarted and immediately I had a video screen corruption. So I restarted again, and this time the bios screen was fine, but when it go to windows splash screen the video was corrupted again. I went back into the IC7 Bios and set the AGP back to 8X and now things are 'fine' it would seem.

But should I worry at all that in my IC7 bios the AGP is @ 8X and in Windows it is being read at 4X? Are there problems with this ?mismatch.? What about the AGP voltage setting of 1.55 in the IC7 Bios? Should I still leave this setting as it is, even though in windows I changed the AGP bus setting?

Suggestions/comments appreciated. Thanks

Having a problem with the new Bios, and its a pretty damn big one BTW, is that whenever I'm in XP and I have to restart my machine about 50% of the time instead of restarting it will just turn off. And when it does turn off, it's like someone just pulled the plug out of the wall as it powers downs super fast, a lot quicker than normal.

Has anyone else here with the 1.6 BIOS had this problem? I haven't really noticed any performance increase over the 1.5 Bios and I don?t have RAID, so I'm tempted to go back to 1.5. Also, when I updated the BIOS to 1.6, I never reset the CMOS jumper. I thought since updating the bios is now done in windows you don't need to do this. Am I wrong about this?

Can anyone else confirm this, or am I just crazy.

Thanks everyone.

Hey guys, I really need some help to save my sanity.

Alright, two things happened yesterday that could have caused this to begin to happen. What is happening, is every couple of minutes my mobo beeps. Now, the two things that happened yesterday is that A. I took my Zalman 7000AU off to reapply some thermal grease (I ran out of AS3 and I had tried that CoolerMaster thermal paste w/ Shin Etsu (supposed to be better than AS3)) because I didn't apply it right, the first time. When I screwed the Zalman HSF back on, I think I could have put too much pressure because when I turned the PC back on it said something along the lines of "CPU may be unusable or has changed" it recognized the cpu and all but when I rebooted because it had halted the post process all it did was beep constantly. So I flashed the CMOS and everything started up just fine. I rebooted and knocked the FSB back up to 250, locked the AGP/PCI and set the divider at 5:4. Everything seemed peachy. And then like 5-10 minutes later I tripped on the cable going into my Leadtek Winfast 2000XP which ripped the actual socket out of the card (rendering it useless! I'll have to try to fix it today). Since then I have tried to disable my onboard sound (I was one of the people that the onboard sound went out and it started to use the mobo speaker for any sound (IMs and such would beep really abnoxiously)) and I uninstalled my winfast TV card yet I left it in the PC (Now that I think of it, this could cause it? So I'll go take it out right now)

Pretty much if I can't fix the beep, because I like to leave my PC on at night...and plus it's just plain annoying, I'd like to know how I disable the damned mobo speaker, and if it'd be a bad idea.

Ok, I went ahead and removed the "Speaker" plug from the mobo. Now, is this an unsafe thing to do? I know the only thing it really was used for was posting. But if my PC won't post, all I'd have to do is plug it back in, right? Well, I hope it never comes down to not posting (Knock on wood). But, now my question is...is there any other bad affect to not having the speaker plugged in?

You must still clear the CMOS using the jumper. Otherwise, (at least on my system), the option to disable onboard 1394 port and/or SATA won't appear.

aha!!! I was wondering where that option went.

Got my northbridge cooler replacement from ExcaliberPC today. Went on OK, darn tight to the zalman hunk-O-copper, and not as tight fitting as the stock setup, but it's there.

Got my Creative modem blaster external back from a friend finally, the shiny black one that matches my Antec Sonota, and using the creative driver it blue screens XP on bootup. Blah. Seems to work with the default generic windows 56k driver.

~sigh~

Yeah, I think the Creative Driver Team is the Worst in the PC industry. I've heard sooo many Horror stories about installing the, buggy and usually bloated creative drivers and it being a nightmare.

This is Creative's Buisness Model:

1. Marketing
2.
3.Profit.

for the record, this modem works with the default XP 56k drivers, and better than with the creative one's in win2k honestly. jeez..

Bought an external USR , course it didnt come with the serial cable?(!) What is the world comeing too..

And on a brighter note, I seem to have gotten 2.88ghz from my 2.4c stable. 240buss, 5:4 memory and stock everything else. Not bad.

Hey I really don't want to search through all 28 pages of this thread, so will anyone tell me outright if the SLK-800(u) or SLK-900(u) will fit properly on this board? I'm thinking yes, but I just need someone to back that claim up. It looks like a row of capacitors is right next to the socket.

So many posts. I just wanted to know what memory to get that is STOCK at 2/2/2/5 timings in a 256 or 512 config for the IC7/IC7-G. Thanks for any info.

My Kingston HyperX PC3500 512MB X2 Modules Do!!. Though I do have to bump up the voltage to 2.8Vdimm and turn all of the GAT settings to AUTO. Me Thinks that perhaps Corsair memory could possibly do the same, but I'm not the authority on corsair and their timings at particular PCxxxx speeds. All I know about is the Kingston, I wouldn't want you to go out and buy a few hundred $$ on RAM if your nor 100% sure that you can get those timings.

Good luck

EDIT: Sorry. I didn't read it closely enough that you want the 2-2-2-5 @ stock timings. I think something like that is DDR400 Ram area.

Corsair 3200LL the kind sold in pairs is rated orginally at 2,6,2,2. I've run 2 512 sticks at 2,5,2,2 but with the newer BIOS it seems to like the 2,6,2,2 better more stable. Corasir recently changed the settings to 2,6,3,2, although as far as I know there was no cahnge in hardware. Seems some 875 MOBOs needed the 2,6,3,2 to work relaibly. I don'tknow of any that is rated to run at 2,5,2,2. Although 3500 running at 3200 might be able to do this.

Ramses:

Any chance that the NB fan would not be needed with the new heatsink if you are using a Zalman CPU cooler? The Zalman seems to put a fair brease around the NB anyway. I only do minor overclocking, I suppect for large overclockers it would be an issue. By the by does the new setup seem quiter? As you may guess I am interested in a quite machine.

Guys,

I need some advice. I just put in a new CPU 2.6C and I think received back an RMA'd RAM stick from Kingston.

I set the system up and try at stock speeds seems fine so I bump up gradually and at about 240 fsb, right away prime 95 gets rounding errrors. Ok so I drop back to 217 FSB with 1:1 Ratio because Hyper x pc3500 is rated to run a ddr 434. I run some memtest86 all test on an cache enabled and all tests with stock timings after a few passes I get erros on test 5 and test 8. I have 2x512 Pc 3500 Hyper X and I tested my two orignal sticks seperately and determined one was bad via memtest and sent it back.
but now with the new stick I get the same errors I did before. Did I get a back a bad stick from Kingston or is something wrong with my bios setting or mobo?? going to test my new stick alone today. What do you fokls think? I have the GAT disabled throughout all my memtesting

At this point, throughout all of your other replacements with the ram and new CPU, all signs would seem to point to your MB. It's the last thing left that would be causing the Memtest failures, and would really be explaining your extremely limiting FSB overclock. Kev, I know you have other PC's there, can you try to Memtest your HyperX ram in your other PC's if they have DDR. Hopefully they can take it with the DDR433 spec. Nevertheless, my money is now on a bum motherboard.

BTW, I know I've mentioned a few things in the past that did not pan out, but I've never seen someone have so many dead ends. We should take up a collection and hier a priest to come out to your place and exorcise your rig.
