I have 2 sticks of UP 4200 from GEiL and they work fine at 250 DDR Duel channel 1:1 hell i even got them running 2.5-7-3-3 no problem....

Cant seem to get the memory to run at the 533DDR rated spec though, but there can be all kinds of reasons for that. I have a watercooling kit on the way and I will see whats up.

Async is funny too locks up during the memory test... but I dont really care for running it async anyways (the reason for running pc4200 is to run it sync imo)...

I'll have some more fun with the memory tommarrow but I bought it about $60 cheaper than the Comparitive Corsair 3500 and I get the same if not better speeds.

GEiL is not bad but it can be better, wonder what chips the UP 4200 is using?

Good for u, but the PC4000 UP just is not for me. I was planning to run 300:240. It does not happen of course. The fact that it does not even do 300:200 is just ridiculous. GeIL claims this stuff is "optimized for the i865PE/875P chipsets."

These are the exact reason I went with the OCZ. Their customer support was outstanding. My first set would not do the 5:4 divider even at spec so they sent me some that would.

If you need to find some OCZ I have found the best place to be Newegg.

Also don't forget when you are doing all of these OC'ing tests that if you get the dreaded Loud Beep... that once you reboot and eventually get into the BIOS some of the settings change so you have to be persistent on checking all of the GAT, MEM, and even make sure the PCI/AGP is still locked at 33/66

Slappy00, GeIL uses their own chips and PCB's.

That really sucks if someone can't tell you what's going on with the Ultra Platinum PC4000. I'd exchange it if I were you....either where you bought it or have GeIL replace it because something can't be right.

I've found OCZ's support to be among the best I've EVER seen. I haven't even gotten any memory yet, and they have been replying to all my questions. I'd like to get try their (OCZ) "Gold" but it's just too expensive. Does anyone know if their Dual Channel Platinum kits are as good? Still can't decide on OCZ Gold or Platinum, GeIL, TwinX or HyperX for that matter.

I have a set of the OCZ PC3500 EL (Enhanced latency) Dual channel 2X256 that I am selling in the FS/FT forum so PM me if you are interested.

As that beep comes through your speakers, make sure the volume is down. I woke up my roomates once when I decided to overclock at 2am

Hi,

Uh...my OC impossible to level ur playground. Anyway, just want to post the best result with my P4 2.4B on IS7-E.

I got 2.9GHz with 161 fsb.
NB strap at 800 FSB.
DRAM ratio 5:4 with GAT F1
CPU & DRAM V core is default

Just my CPU is little hot with stock heatsink, 69 deg celcius. Is volcano 9 good? need feedback guys...

What voltage (vcore) are you using. 69*C is way over what most are getting with stock heatsink/fan. I am running stock heatsink/fan on mine and the temps under full load are never above 59C. If you are looking at other coolers, I would suggest that you take a look at SLK900U and Zalman CNPS7000. Using 92mm fans these are extreamly effective coolers.

THe Abit IS7 has problems with a few types of memory when running async in any mode ... this is a well-known thread in the abit forums. There is also an seems to be an upper limit in the OC too in some cases... Mine seems to be 250mhz 1:1 and no higher, 250 = rockstable 251 = lock at boot (my mem is rated for 266 1:1 )... GAT problems abound too but that is something abit threw in for free so I dont care if it works but in my case I leave it on auto.

Thing is that the problems ppl might have with their memory (not just GEiL per se) can be attributed to abit not making a quality product this time around... Now I for one dont care if the top speed of my board is 250 with a 1:1 ratio but I want to use some of the dividers at least.

GEiL UP series (and ironicly not the cheaper type GD ) have problems with the IS7 esp when trying async modes and messing with the timings, but its is also corsair and ocz too, I for one have no doubt that when abit gets their thumbs out of their butts and release a BIOS that fixes this problem with incompatible memory dimms a lot of this whining will go away.

Frens,

I'm using Processor B type and only use DRAM PC2700. Suppose that's the limit..??? Maybe yours is C type and Performance DRAM. About the heat level, I'll try to get one.

Yeah I missed that, sorry. I thought you were using a C version w/800mhz bus...I'm used to seeing OC results with them.

word on the street is that abit will have a new bios out for IS7/IC7 next week that will adress the 255mhz speed barrier...

This board is quite frankly pretty weak in relation to keeping up with abit IC7/IS7 news goto the abit forums for the real poop...

THe new 16/17 IS7 IC7 respectively BIOSes are in Beta testing as we speak hers the link to the forum where you can get more info...

Abit socket 478 forum

Unfortuenatly from what I read The BIOS fix does nothing for any Divider problems.. although I cannot be sure, BTW its closed testing... Hopefully Abit will come wout with a fix in the near future that will address memory compatibility... theres a good article on madshrimps about this...

I have got some Kingmax PC3200 to replace the GeIL UP. Kingmax simply rocks and reminds me of the days when we did not have heat spreaders. It does 230 MHz 1:1 flawlessly.

The fantastic thing is it does 300:200 too, without any problem. Infact, it is 5:4 and 3:2 friendly! Oh, yes, these Kingmax sticks are more than $50 cheaper than the GeIL UP.

Hey it even addresses the 255mhz limit.
7. Enhanced the system stability when over clocks the CPU FSB over 255 MHz with CPU: DRAM = 1-1 setting. (Over clocking is out of warranty)
Link. Strange v16 / 1.6 is not at the USA site, I've been checking it and it still shows v1.5 as the latest. (Actually it shows v15 instead of 1.5).

remember that "new" BIOS is for the IS7-E, but I suppose it might work for other versions of the boards, I'm not going to dive in till my liveupdate picks it up.... I dont mess around when I flash my BIOS, I can wait to run my MOBO another 10mhz higher ....
