CL3 memory are recommended for all i865/875 motherboards, so the Hynix D43 CL3 chips should be great.

CL3? I've seen CAS2 and CAS 2.5 recommended as well. Reason I asked, is this place has great deal on CAS 2.5 PC4000 2x512. I asked and they said it uses Hynix chips. I know someone on the P4C800 thread ("Jhites") that's using it and likes it so I'm wondering if the IS7 will like it.
Thanks.

I got my IS7 recently, but I have a little BSOD problem.

I still haven't found the Hungarian version of the HT-fix for XP (812035), but that's another story. I can live without HT for the time being.

The main problem is:
I get an IRQ_LESS_OR_NOT_EQUAL BSOD sometimes, so I guess there is an IRQ-related problem. I've tried using another network card (now I use the onboard one), moving the Sb Live (didn't matter, it's all right), and I think I've found the matter: my AGP video card (GF3) and the onboard USB use the same IRQ - 16. There is no conflict in the device manager, but I don't have a better idea.
I've tried switching off the onboard usb controller, unplugging all devices, but it didn't help.
I only have a GF3 and an Sb Live. I've turned off all the things - Firewire, IR, serial, parallel ports - I don't use and I have no idea what to do.

Fellow IS7 users, what IRQ are your vcards and USB controllers? Have you encountered the problem?

Have you udated your BIOS yet? What memory and processor?

The BIOS revision is 17. None of the patches in 18 affect me, so I don't plan to flash.

The CPU is a P4C 2.8, the memory is some Corsair TwinX-1024 3200ProLL running at 400MHz in dual channel mode.

I've raised the memory latencies to the safest level, turned off HT, turned off all unnecessary features of the MB this morning, so if the problem occours once again, I will see things more clearly. I couldn't find a clear description of the blue screen at Microsoft or using Google, so I'm trying to figure out what's causing the errors. I didn't have any errors today (yet), so I hope the error was just a software error.

Edit: maybe it's just a coincidence, but the problem has never occoured under heavy load, I only got blue screens while tinkering in Winamp, playing Transport Tycoon, browsing the net and doing other non-stressful things. I've never got a blue screen while playing UT, Painkiller, or 3DMarking for hours, so I don't believe that it's the fault of some weak components.
The computer is on 24/7 and sometimes it ran for days in a row perfectly.

Things are looking good... I had no errors since my last post. The cause of the problem seems to elude me, but at least I'm safe for now. IRQ errors don't fix themselves, so I guess that blue screen is an all-round error.

Regarding the windows install: I had to get rid of my previous installment of WinXP using the XP disc.
I couldn't repair because windows didn't start at all. I didn't reformat, either, why should I have?

Reformating after a MB change is recommended. I have done it both ways and I must say the reformat option is the way to go. I usually keep a partition of about 20gig for the operating system and backup my docs and settings before reformating. I have noticed that the overall feel and stability that is gained from the reformat is well worth it.

I get the same BSOD as Vaerilis and my install was completely fresh. I seem to get it about once a week and it usually happends while I'm just surfing the web. Only cards I have are my AIW 9700 Pro and a Highpoint Rocketraid card.

I also occasionally get a beep while in windows. Temps and voltages are fine, so it shouldn't be any warnings from the mobo, but I don't know for sure.

Do you have the hardware monitor running when you get the beeps? What PSU are you using?

I need to get one of these mobo's (IS7) for a customer and I see (according to the Newegg user reviews) the audio is still screwed up! Do these people just not know how to setup the audio, or are these really defective mobo's? I see the mic jack not working, audio crackling and grinding noises that were so bad and could not be fixed that PCI sound cards had to be installed.
Thanks.

Quick question about the northbridge heatsink on the IS7-G: which one is the newer version? Is it the tall round aluminum one, or the square one with a fan in blue plastic casing?

I don't think anyone is subscribed to this thread anymore. Guys? Did any of you have any of these audio issues below?

To add, I got the mobo in today (but haven't installed the OS yet). I'm testing it with MemTest and the WMD memory test program. During this, I noticed it's impossible to have any of the Game settings on! It won't even boot from a floppy in F1, Street Racer, OR Turbo!! And this at the default CPU speed! The 2.4C (w/OCZ Gold PC4000 DC kit) can do 272mhz @1:1, BS800, but at "Auto" on those areas and PAT shows disabled in MemTest. So what's the point of having these other settings if they don't work?

I can't believe this mobo only goes to 2.8v Vdimm, it's in serious need of the Vdimm mod. These EXACT same memory sticks did 288mhz bus on my P4C800-E Deluxe @1:1., with the Vdimm mod done to it giving it 3.1v.

dp004i, the one I just got says "IS7 v1.2" on a sticker and its chipset fan is rather small and short, round radial fins, teal/turquoise, with a sort of clear fan. It's not really clear but kind of "milky" translucent.

I am really torn between the decision about choosing from an IC7-G, IS7, IS7-G and an Asus P4P800 DeLuxe... I am dying to get an IS7 or an IS7-G though...

"Which way do I get to Jose, Chuck?"

Guys, and anyone please tell me the best memory to use the this mobo? Even the worse/what to avoid would be helpful. I would think OCZ, Geil, Corsair, or Mushkin would work well, but wanted to check first.

Mushkin if you can afford it, I have some level 1 512MBx2 matched kit (one with purple spreaders) it works like a charm and has no problem with the 5:4 divider, with low latencies. I previously owned GeIL pc4500 matched kit, It worked fine up to 259mhz 1:1 but after that they got messed up. They were alos flakely after 237mhz in some games such as Hitman 2 and Neverwinter Nights. Sine I have aquired the new memory I can get 3.0ghz with 5:4 and the computer is much "snappier" when booting. I can't speak for OCZ, although I have heard they are quite good too, but for some reason Mushkin seems a bit more "exclusive" in terms of memory, and other than DOA modules there has been very little complaints in reguard to their quility.

See my post on 03/30/2004 4:12 AM here: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=29&threadid=1032281&forumid=1 . I'm glad I got the P4C800-E Deluxe. The "P" is great, but I wanted a CSA LAN, SATA ICH5R and Promise, and most websites use the "C" version as their test bed.

I'm also going to give this yet another try:

Hey everyone, I've had my IS7 since the summer of '03 and haven?t noticed any issues until now. Today, I opened up Winbond Hardware monitoring (which I have not run for about a month or so), and after about 5 minutes an alarm went off saying the NB Fan's RPM was dipping under the "minimum RPM speed (which is set at 1055RPM)" so I look at the fan through my side window, and I noticed this:

The NB fan will run, then slow down to where it'd nearly stop, then speed back up again, with average RPM in the 500-700 zone. At points when its going really slow, it reports RPM is zero, which I can believe...

So this situation leaves me with these conclusions, something is wrong, but I do not know what the problem is. Is the motor on the fan dying? A power supply issue? (I have a Thermaltake Purepower non-PFC 480W power supply). I checked the plug where the fan plugs into the motherboard; it appears to be secure in its slot. I pressed down on the fan, and it ?clicked? and I thought maybe it was a little bit loose; however it still shows this issue. Would I have to buy a new fan? Has anyone experienced this problem before? Should get this fixed immediately? btw: my mobo has this version NB fan
Thanks

Did the Abit Q Fan somehow become enabled in the BIOS or in the Abit EQ? This will slow fans down. I'm having all kinds of problems with this new IS7 I got. All was fine for the first few days, then as soon as I put the case's side back on, all hell cut loose. I started getting a warning beeping from the BIOS I think, and took the case side back off and opened the Abit EQ and it showed the CPU was over 200°F!!!!! AIDA32 showed the same temp! I restarted several times and the CPU temp in the BIOS was normal (although a bit high at 118°!!!). As soon as XP would load, the temp goes up to over 200°!!!!!! All fans showed the normal speeds too. Several hours of checking this out and I still can't find out what the hell is happening and I have a customer waiting on it. I replaced the Intel HSF unit with an aftermarket one, and it's still doing it sometimes. I put a thermal sensor under the HSF unit next to the CPU chip, and it never gets over 100°F, so something is wrong with the mobo's thermal sensor evidently, but seems only affected in Windows for some reason. CPU gets to 136°F running the "4x" loop in MemTech and the sensor I added shows about 110°F then. I keep raising the CPU warning temp setting in the BIOS higher and higher, and it keeps going off!!

maybe it's just got a bad sensor on the board, I've never heard of that problem.

As far as the audio, I haven't had any problems with audio on my IS7, which is gonna be a year old pretty soon.

I haven't had any problems with it.

If it is the sensor, I'm still screwed since that would mean the mobo would have to be replaced. I think it is the sensor since it's 30° higher than the sensor I added. The Abit forum is FULL of overheating issues related to inaccurate sensor readings. Apparently it's something Abit has screwed up and refuses to fix.

Does anyone know what the difference is between the "AbitEQ" and the "Hardware Monitor"? BOTH are on the IS7 page for downloads, so I'm wondering why Abit has both and which should be used.

I certainly hope someone is still on this thread. This IS7 PC is now "dead". The customer said when he removed his camcorder that was connected to the rear board's USB ports, after about 3 minutes it just died while running. The green light on the mobo still lights up, but it won't switch on, and no fans will run. Only the CPU's fan will "bump" just for an instant and turn a fraction of turn, and that's it. All drives have been removed and all fans disconnected. Has anyone ever heard of this before?

Is it safe to remove the fan connector for the chipset on IS7? I know that fan is there for overclocking purposes but I don't overclock. I'm running a 2.4C....

Guys,

I ahev an ABit IS7-E MOBO.

I am running a 2.8Ghz P4 800FSB with HT

I have 4x256meg Geil Golden Dragon DDR500 RAM.

The CPU overclocks to a cracking 3.7Ghz (watercooled using wetand chilly chips system).

But because I can only pump 2.8v into my RAM - it craps out at 243Mhz.

If needs be (and if someone can show me how to do it) I could Volt MOD, what I would prefere however is a BIOS that will allow me to get at least 2.9v to my DIMMS.

HELP ME OBI WAN KENOBI - YOU'RE OUR ONLY HOPE!!!
