I am running it on the IS7..
and it apears to be running stable at 275 FSB 5:4 mem ratio for 2 days now. This computer is constantly folding on both "pipes" without any problems.

The Beta BIOS versions listed in this thread seem to be applicable to the IS7-G. Will they work with a regular IS7? Has anyone here tried?

Thanks

Planning on ordering a IS7 and a P4 2.4c by the end of the month. What HSF combo is everyone using???? I'm looking at SLK800, SLK900 and Zalman 7000Cu.

Would prefer to use the stock retention mechanism, but that is not set in stone.

Thanks in advance

I'm using the retail HSF. Seems fine up to 3.4g as long as vcore stays close to default. If higher vcore was required or I when I decide to max out the cpu I think I'll go with a pal8942, loke Oldfart recommends.

btw, on the subject of maxing out the cpu, I've actually gone all the way to 300fsb, still at default vcore, but I can't say it's stable there and eventually I'll need better memory to figure out if it's the memory, motherboard, or cpu, that isn't completely stable at 3.6g.

I suspect it's the memory though, since I'm using pc2700, and not the same brand for both chips.

You will need to download the USB 2.0 drivers from Abit's website. Alternatively, you can install them from the CDROM provided with the mobo.

yo, i just bought the ic7 but am now reading all the reports about PAT being enabled on the is7 via a new bios? what do you guys know about this? if it's true i think i might return my ic7 for the is7 - save $40, get on-board lan, and get some extra space below the agp slot for better cooling. LMK

Hi folks,

Currently i m running a 2.4C on a IS7-E on the stock HSF. Idle CPU temp is abt 48 deg. Thinking of changing to SLK 800U. Any problems of getting the SLK 800U to fit on the motherboard?

Abit has enabled PAT with the latest bios on the IS7, putting it at the same level as the IC7. I personally would still get the IC7 because I have a window on my case and I think the black PCB looks a lot better.

today i built a killer machine:
abit ic7-g canterwood
antec case /430w true power
1 gig of 3500 corsair xms memory
80 gig serial ata, barracuda
geforce 5600 256mb card, chaintech

pentium 4 2.4c 800mhz proc,

weel, at first, my brother-in-law and i had trouble with the memory timings, in that the board would mysteriously reset the timings at 2-3-3-8, the meory, according to corsiar, runs at 2-3-3-7 at 434. we set the fsb at 260 with 2-2-2-6, and the rig ran great! thats over 3100 from the 2.4c proc! divider was set at 3/2, afraid to set it at 4/5, and the n/b was set at 800 mhz in the bios. ran stable in sisandra and playing serious sam for 1 hour. what other experiences have anyone else had? i would like to enhance the bios settings without re-setting the bios again and re-formatting the harddrive after the first set of errors.

I running this setup here and is having problem enabling pat when I have overclocking.
fsb at 265 with 2-2-2-6
divider was set at 3/2.
2.8v on the DRAM.

the machine will crash on either one of the options ( turbo or Ultra)

Any Suggestions? Thanks

Just set up new system.

Abit IS7
P2.4C
Two bars of KINGSTON KVR400X64C25/256 256MB 400MHz DDR PC3200 DIMM RAM CL2.5
XP pro
WD 1200JB
Enlight 300W case for $58 bucks from newegg

With the first bios sisoft 2003 buffered memory benchmarks were:
4167 & 4178

With bios 13 beta 4 (latest on 6-10-03) the same benchmarks were:
4407 & 4389

With bios 13 beta 3 the benchmarks were similar but the pc stopped working when I tried using Turbo and Ultra modes. I then went straight to the beta 4 version.

Did you know any other differences with the Beta 4 BIOS. Can you tell if they left PAT enabled? It seems that Intel is strong arming the MB makers and forcing them to stop with the Springdale chipset. All the Springdale is is an under clocked chipset. It's like CPU's all die yield to a certain speed bin. I would bet (I do work in the industry) that most of their yeild is very good and most of their chipsets are passing the Canterwood specs. Just like most of their cpu's are yielding above 3gig.

Thanks in advance

I got the 13 beta 4 bios here: http://complicates.net/is7g13b4.zip

but apparently I am a 'tard because my benchmarks are too low.

Chainbolt at http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthread.php?s=&threadid=174378&perpage=15&pagenumber=9
says I should be getting 4,800 and some people getting up to 5,600
http://forum.abit-usa.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12982&pagenumber=4

Chainbolt asks if I am sure I am running in 1:1
I have no clue what he is talking about.

I have changed nothing in the bios menu yet nor have I overclocked. The only thing I have done so far is change the bios from the one that came with it to 13 beta 4

Guess I'll look around the bios menu for this 1:1 thing

He's talking about the DRAM Ratio (CPU : DRAM) option on the Softmenu Setup screen. "PAT" won't work if the divider is set to 5:4 or 3:2 etc... it has to be 1:1.

See here and here.

6/13 Release version of the 13 BIOS is posted on Abits site. It's interesting that it the same BIOS for all three boards.

In part one of their motherboard roundup, Anand said they could run turbo and ultra only with very loose memory timings, but they got better performance buy running the tight memory timings by themselves. This could be a motherboard issue that will be resolved in a newer bios, or it could just be that it's too taxing on the RAM. Since I don't know what turbo and ultra on these boards, I can't say for sure.

Here is a link to Abit's taiwan bios DL page for the IS7. I believe the IS7g13.exe is the release version of the betas that give "PAT" like performance.

I wasn't able to get the one on the US site to DL. Kept getting a page not found error. So Ithought I'd post the TW site in case anyone else had the same problem.

It took me awhile to get the one on the US site to download as well. I guess their system is getting flooded..

Hi members,
I have a question.
I have assembled my new pc:
abit IS7 with bios beta 04
4-512 crucial 3200
lite on cd
raptor sata 36 Gig

I can't get the bios right to try to boot from the raptor.
I have used fdisk to format and am wanting to get the no os
warning.
Should I go ahead and insert the cd for xp and hope I get a
good load?

I formatted using an old boot diskette.
The format was fat 32.
I'm now using the xp cd to format as ntsf.
